Final Fantasy 7 Is Overated

There is absolutely no way this is the greatest game of all time, OoT, Halo, and plenty of other games destroy it.

I mean, Sephiroth? really? He's the most girly villain i can remember. The story and gameplay in Final Fantasy X is about 10 times better.

Ill admit that it isnt the greatest game of all time, heck not even the best FF (that goes to X imo) but it is still an amazing game.

Well, the early 3d graphics used in FF7 haven't aged well and I think a much better job is done on translating these days. The main reason I liked Sephiroth was because he actually had his own backstory and motivations. A lot of games (including early FFs) simply have a bad guy doing bad things because he is bad. I don't think it was the visual character design that made the character.

I think FF is overrated on a whole. i think its a great series of games but its not mind blowing greatness. they have some pretty stupid stories too. Androvinus

Well personally I think OOT is over rated. I never liked it. Not even in 1998. FFVII is one of the few games from the 90's that I feel has grown with me. Replaying it as an adult, I feel empathy for characters that I used to hate and see the story in a completely different way... that's why its special to me.

Halo is the greatest series of all time.

OoT time is more Overrated.
Having playing both recently, ff7 is better.

People are too nostalgic.

Oh my God, you're the most original poster ever!!! This hasn't been said hundreds, thousands of times before, has it!? Interestingly enough, a lot of the time, the people saying it, haven't even played the game. See, in my opinion, it is -one- of the best games made. It's right up there with Zelda : Link to the Past and Mario 64. Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger are pretty damn amazing too. See, there are a lot of amazing games, and there are a lot of games that get praise they don't deserve... Final Fantasy VII isn't one of those.jonnyt61

Well for what it's worth I never liked FFX, but absolutely loved FFVII. It's true there were plenty of games out there that deserved just as much recognition as FFVII, but didn't... but Halo isn't one of them.

Some friend told me something similar, Sephirot is by no means the best or the baddest FF villain. Sephirot wanted to cause the Apocalypses and in the process he kill thousends, on the other hand, Kefka DID cause the Apocalypses and kill millions.

About the thread, yes, is overrated IMO, still is an excellent game, but best FF? nop, for me is FFVIII, best PS game?, nop, for me is MGS, best JRPG, nop, for me is Crono Trigger, best game ever? wrong again.

It is overrated, and it hasn't aged well either.

Honestly, I think the game was held back technology, and it could be amazing if it where to be remade on a modern platform.

Anyway, FF7 is one of my all time favorites. I like everything about it almost. The story, characters, setting, materia system, battle system, and even the crappy graphics.

I do think its overrated but then again I pretty much think any FF after FF6 is overrated.

Is it really? It gets a lot of hate and I don't really see a lot of love for it, other than people listing it in "games that should be remade" threads. VII was good for 1997. Why would you compare VII to X? VII's biggest competition for "best JRPG" were SNES games.

probably because FF7 is a lot more similar to FF9 and FF10 then it was to all the FF's on SNES. that would be like me saying we shouldnt compare mario 64 to mario sunshine and galaxy, we should compare it to Super Mario World and Yoshis Island...
