I have to agree and I'm really pissed that they are choosing to forget this style of FF in favor of the type of "realistic" FF they are doing now.

So true. I was watching Steamboy awhile back and it reminded me of FFIX. I miss steam ships and the mix of Victorian/Medieval fantasy!

IX was ok. Very high quality, but I was found the plot to take a turn for the lazy in the end.

FF3 on the SNES ff8 and ff9 are the best

ff10 10-2 and 12 are the worst

and ff7 is the most overrated bar none

I said it's a prime candidate to be considered overrated. Not over FFVII, which is a pretty good FF game that is WAY overrated for several reasons... But FFVIII was a worse game than it that still gets a lot of credit. It's overrated. For me, it's probably the single worst FF game I've ever played... Well, barring that whole FFX2 thing.

I'd go with IX > X > XII > every other PS1+ era FF out there. I have not played the old school FFs, so I can't count them under the stated list.

You want to see an underrated FF game? Look at Final Fantasy IV, which is hardly ever mentioned by the FF community - but was a really, really good FF game. VIII gets *tons* of praise as being one of the best FF games ever... Along with often being oftentimes derided as being one of the worst FF games ever. It's probably the only FF game that has its fans, but is also hated - *hated* - by a lot of FF fans... Any game that can make a lot of FF die-hards hang their head in shame while still being called one of the greatest ever by other portions of the die-hard community is overrated, precisely because it drives away FF die-hards. FFIV is underrated because a lot of people quite enjoyed it, but it gets no recognition. FFVIII is overrated because it often gets called the best FF game ever, but drove a lot of real FF fans away - something that not many FF games can be said to have done when they weren't almost universally reviled by the FF community.

The most obvious reason is that that FF V only appeared on Super Famicon, so must people (me included) played it years later on an emulator, or even later in one of the compilations.

Bah, it wasn't even a Playstation game... It was a SNES game ported to the PS :p

What made the drawing system any worse than regular grinding?

There really wasn't anything wrong with it uunless you didn't work at it or you wanted to use 20 of a certain magic in a single go.

Thats why if you draw enough of it, you shouldn't have to worry about it. Its not like the game was so hard that your stats going down slightly would really hurt you.

Yeah, it was a very underrated game in the series, and just because of it's art style. But, if you ask me it captured the essence of Final Fantasy better than any game in the series. Definitely Sakaguchi's best game, and he seems to think so as well.
