Actaully, there's a lot of similarity between 12 and 11, also. yep, i hate when devs steal from themselves too. if you have the nerve to steal from yourself, you should give it back.
What aspect of the story? If it's the airships, then I will inform you that every Final Fantasy ever made has featured them... even the ancient 80s itterations on the NES...

Why does it matter? Personally, it has no ramifictations to if a game is enjoyable or not. Final Fantasy XII has kickass characters to tell the story (Even if half of them serve no point in the plot)

Urgh... I thought the characters were pretty boring personally bar Balthier. What sucks is that FFX had an amazing story and characters but average gameplay, then XII finally brings in some good gameplay and the storyline and characters suck.

X story was way too guessable..
Perhaps some portions of it were. But I liked the complexity of many parts of the story.

I bet your friend played skies of arcadia and told you FF 12 is very simular... you then make this topic to get attention but youve actually never played it yourself.

I've played and beaten both games and they are much different. The characters especially reminded me of Skies. Balthier reminded me of Gilder. Cid reminded me of De Loco. And the whole storyline based around an empire trying to take over different places and the whole nephacite thing just reminded me of the skies of arcadia and the valuan empire trying to take over lands to gain the giga crystals. The war thing also reminded me of the Valua/Nasr war. It just seemed really familiar.

Vaan being Tidus Penelo being the thief chick Rukia I think Fran being a hybrid between the blue beast guy and Lulu the blk mage chick Balthier being Wakka Basch being Auron and the Princess girl being Yuna.
Some of them even looked alike. Vaan and Tidus looked like Sarach Michelle Gillar off of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Ouch, Balthier was much better then Wakka. It's not even funny how annoying Wakka was in FFX.

I guess just how the initial quests begin in each game are different as well. Just an outline here. SPOILERS Skies - Rescue an unknown girl from an imperial ship -> Take her to pirate island -> Go off and investigate a falling star (Moonstone, fuel for ships) -> Come back to find Pirate Island attacked and villagers kidnapped -> And you're off to save your friends and the world FFXII - (Skipping the beginning assassination) -> Pretty much an orphan raised by a shop owner is in a city under imperial control -> Learns of a new magistrate coming and is pulled into a whole mess of events -> Meets the underground resistance leader and helps her escape from the empire -> sets off with pirates on a quest to save a country and world The political aspect of FFXII is much more indepth (Not like it's deep or anything, just more then Skies).

OMG, FF12 copied off Skies of Arcadia since their stories are similar? Wow, then Call of Duty so ripped off Medal of Honor. I mean, Medal of Honor had the WWII storyline first. And Halo ripped off Space Invaders. Space Invaders had aliens first, and Space Invaders probably ripped off another alien game, too.
