Final Fantasy XIII: Famistu Review

It looks like Famitsu's review of Final Fantasy XIII has been leaked early in Hong Kong. Famitsu is reprinted and released in many countries across Asia but for some reason a Hong Kongese forum has the Japanese review scores before everyone else. Although it hasn't been confirmed it looks like the games been given a score of 39/40. The individual summaries of each reviewer can be seen roughly translated below.

Beautiful graphics and excellent story.
It will be accomplished without force, to satisfy a sense of fierce play the game together, the achievements made a complete system to evolve.
Even without a major vice, this film is crystallized with intertwining stories and games at this stage is located at the top RPG's, definitely feel worth it.

Combat damage or have trouble seeing the display or the screen when I'm confused, I plunged into some places,
Not that fun is more than offset it.
Visual, auditory, be drawn into a story world.
However, this "RPG Rashii RPG" in stating that is somewhat uncomfortable for some.

Dark density luxury. Many cinematic moments.
Story of the event jammed, sleeves are inserted very beautiful movie, I do not know about the Doki opening is stopped.
Development and synthesis, and collected a while so this one is playing with lots Ikeru book unmanageable.

Including the beauty of the visual quality is truly total. Dialogue once the fashionable purposes only, and Kiza.
免Rezu also fixed the image of characters, "the story of my own" is not Arubeku.
Comfort they get to play on but without this, what kind of first taste.

I don't trust the Famitsu scores, but I don't doubt FFXIII will be a great game.

Hmm, kinda thought it would be a perfect score when you consider what they gave Dragon Quest IX. Either way, its still a good score that's a point away from being perfect.

I dissagree, Last Remnant was very underrated, strategic combat, good story, I really enjoyed the game.

Famistu reviews just plan suck. Anyone remember hazes high score. I just care about the details they give.

Well I played both of them and I can say that WKC is better than LR by miles in term of gameplay and Story.

RPG-rashii-RPG means RPG-like-RPG. Whatever that means.

Uhh ... that's not going to happen. Final Fantasy fans are terrible because they hate their favorite series, not because they expect perfect scores.

Anyways, famitsu can pretty much be ignored anyways. But no one is expecting this game to get a perfect score on gamespot or any other site for that matter.

I thought the Last Remnant was great, and always hyped it as such. Now Im worried, I heard bad things about WKC from the get go, but I brushed them asside and looked at the positive. Wonder if its in fact just ok.

Anyway thats a fantastic score, very happy for Square.

Im pretty sure that famitsu's biggest problem with WKC was the online modes, which are getting completely redone for the NA release.

Scores for Japanese publications are highly suspect. As are the reviews. If you've ever read Japanese magazines they all sound like adverts for the game and then right at the end they tack on a score that has seemingly no connection to the content discussed in the review. By-and-large these publications simply aren't very critical of what they review and moreover review in light of the average audience the games are aimed at rather than evaluating games on their own merits (and so on and so on). In short Japanese publications mean very little. I still await the actual text review, but I know full well that other than pure factual information that can be taken away from the review there can be no real assumptions of the quality of the game made on the basis of such.

So Square Enix only paid to get a 39/40? I'm pretty it wouldn't cost that much more to get that 40/40 score.

Look this is the summary of Famitsu WKC review:

The game scored an absolutely not-amazing 7, 8, 7, 7 from Famitsu's crack panel of twelve-word-blurb-writing veteran journalists.

Each reviewer individually mentioned the smooth ebb and flow of the single-player campaign, and bemoaned the clunking chunk of the online mode.

No reviewer details anything specific at all regarding the single-player campaign, aside from mentioning that the menus are a bit awkward.

The key complaint with the online mode — which every reviewer is careful to voice — is that the chatting is "difficult". One reviewer even says: "I wish there was an auto-run / auto-battling feature so that I could enjoy chatting more".

Not a single reviewer says they wish the game had voice chat; however, it's very obvious from the wording of the reviews that chatting is done via text and not voice.

One reviewer mentions that the online mode's matching system is otherwise smooth and convenient, "like a Social Networking Service".

So exactly single player mode (main story) didnt have any problems except not having Auto run (Auto run will be added to the English version) and most of the problems in online mode got fixed later with patchs (everything will be on disk in the English version).
