Final fantasy XIII to be amazing...says the FF pattern.

Final fantasy, when released on the NES, was huge. It sold like hot cakes. There were more that followed on NES, none too revolutionary (other than VI). When FF VII released on the PS, it literally broke sales records. It was a rebirth for a new console in many ways, although many people thought it was over rated. Sure FF VIII n IX were good, but not as good as VII(in terms of being revolutionary). Then the all mighty FF X came out, my personal fav. It was a rebirth for a new console, just like the other first FF games released for each console. So, by pattern, is FF XIII destined to reach a new benchmark,I truly hope the pattern continues.

Kinda...but more of a transformation as each game translated to another console. Like NES-PS was graphics and story. PS1-PS2 was graphics, gameplay, and more diversity. Im hoping PS2-PS3 will be gameplay, graphics, story, and sound. Therby making a better FF game.

Tidus was an awfully annoying character. i also hated the sphere grid for character development.

gotcha. I wish they didnt use the sphere grid system... i thought it diluted the combat.

The first iteration of most franchises (atleast the ones that aren't new IPs) tend to get the most attention.

MGS2 was huge, MGS3 was good but overlooked

FF7 was huge, FFVIII and FFIX were good but (for the most part overlooked)

You get all this pent up excitement over how the game will look and run on new hardware and people tend to go nuts over it it....I mean look at Halo 3, 5 million in like 3 months. (not to say that these games will have the same sales, but still, you see what I mean)

I hope you are right. I am really looking forward to both XIII and Versus XIII. Also, yes, FFXII was a dissapointment for the most part. They forgot all the old players and tried to get new users to get into it, which in term made the old timers not really appreciate the FFXII. It was OK but nothing like the previous ones.

FF will probably also not be FINAL anytime soon because even though each new game only changes its name in the number department, the story is ALWAYS different with new (although sometimes similar) characters. They also always add on new things and some some things the same (summons).

Hey, has anyone thought about FFXIV? I mean, considering there were around 2-3 mainstream FF games released on each console, it isn't too much of a stretch to believe the PS3 would get at least another great FF game after FFXIII and Versus XIII? Look at this :

PS1 : FVII, FVIII, FIX, FFTactics (kind of a major release)

PS2 : FFX, FFXI (major online release), FFX-2 (minor release), FFXII

PS3 : FFXIII, FF Versus XIII, ???

Although it may be different this time : the ressources and time spent at perfecting these dual-story games might cause the next major FF release to be on the future-generation Sony Hardware Console. I mean, I'm not even sure if FF Versus XIII is a proper Major FF Numero Release or some kind of expansion to FFXIII, or if it'll be bundled with the game to make the length the equivalent of one full final fantasy game, or both are lengthy to stand out as their own FF title. I'm confused...

12 wasn't that bad. I played it longer than 10. i actually sold X and kept 12.

It had better be amazing. It in conjunction with Metal Gear Solid 4 are the primary reasons I bought the PS3 over the Xbox 360.

Why people love ff X is beyond me. The Story and character developmentwere nothing short of horrid. And I think that as far as Final Fantasy goes FF 12 and 11 wereFAR morerevolutionary than 10 couldever hope to be. Wow, the Square must've packed in some impressive custom graphics chips to make that utterly incredible FFVI on the NES :roll:

I trully hope FFXIII draws me back in as I haven't finished an FF game, or LOVED and FF game since the almighty FFVI which is by far the best in the series IMO. I never even bothered playing VIII as I hated the look of it. Now that SE made the impossible-to comprehend-decision of putting DQIX on the goddamn DS, FFXIII is the PS3's only main big hitter in Japan.

I am however, looking much more forward to getting my hands on Shirokishi Monogatari than either FF game. Level 5 kick SE's arse all over the place for RPGs these days. Square has been crap since the end of the Super Famicom days and NEVER hit the highpoint of development on the PS1 or 2 they had with the SFC. All you have to do is look at how they ruined SFC franchises such as Romancing Sa Ga, Seiken Densetsu and Hanjuku Hero on the playstation consoles to see this. As for Enix, they have always been a one trick pony with DQ. They had Star Ocean and a few other minor hit RPGs on the SFC but none of their other games were ever big in Japan apart from the Itadaki Street games.

They can do whatever the hell they want with the "cell" and "blue-ray" but if the game has crap characters and a bad storyline, all the cell tricks in the world can't save the game. I think people seem to forget that the characters and story are the KEY things that make an RPG. This is why the Lunar games on the Mega CD are still my favourite games of all time.
