Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward gets a score of 9

So it seems that the new content for FF XIV got a good score. This may be in many years that a Final Fantasy scored a 9 on Gamespot for a long time. I havn't played FF XIV since I'm not interested in these types of games but it cool for the people who play it.

Final Fantasy XIV is amazing and I just barely finished with pre-heavensward story so I can't wait wait to finally sink my teeth into Heavensward. Currently have a lvl54 ilvl115 Warrior.

The questing is one of the worst I have ever done... combined with the fates not being worth doing... a horrible leveling experience.

However, story, combat and dungeons are as good as ever! which more than makes up for it.

The one game that I think is absolutely brilliant and rekindles that childlike sense of wonder within me yet I don't play it because of time, that sub fee, and my backlog.

Constantly say I need to go back and play this and I'll say it again: I need to get back into FFXIV.

Final Fantasy XIV: ARR is absolutely amazing, so I am not surprised. The most amazing comeback story in all of gaming.

Yeah what a turnaround. MMORPGs aren't my thing but maybe there is some hope to Square to not **** up anymore.

Nope. Just buy game rather than wall, after wall of bullshit amounting to ten to twenty times the cost of a subscription.

Kevin gave the PC version a 7 (under the new integer-based review system). To be fair the game starts incredibly slow and has a very traditional questing structure. And most jobs don't evolve until you're nearly at 50 so most of the leveling experience is pressing one button every 2.5 seconds.

Think of it this way: that sub fee is less than half of the monthly flavour of the month garbage System Wars jizzes over.

Ditto. It's more about the time now than it is the cost for me.

It's a great game and well deserving of the score. A shame a heap of people won't give it a chance due to disliking a subscription model but I wager those same people also hate a F2P model as well.

Yeah, but I've never paid a sub fee. i guess you could get game and sub for a couple months and maybe clear most content. Do you play it?

It's *possible* to be done with the game in a couple months... but at that point, I honestly don't think you'll want to stop playing.

@MBirdy88: I believe they said the experience from FATEs in the new zones will be increased and the strength of the enemies will be toned down a bit. Not sure when they plan on changing that though. Even with that change, I can't imagine leveling alt classes is going to be much fun without the storyline quests.

Expansion is definitely an improvement over A Realm Reborn for me though. Story, soundtrack and the new zones really stood out this time.
Due to new abilities, I need to re-learn my class though, which is kind of frustrating at times. I'm sure I'll get it sorted out eventually.

No it isn't ... the exp did not scale, nobody was doing them while level 50-60... nobody. except perhaps one or 2 suckers that took 5-10 minutes to do one for a measley 14k experience at their level.

Ravana Extreme looks really good

As does the damage metres overlay, wish Square Enix, would stop catering to over-sensitive care bears and officially support them already... but oh well.

@MBirdy88: Some people from one of my Free Company's raiding groups was nice enough to take myself and a few others into the Ravana Extreme fight the other day and down it....10 times in a row. The weapon I needed didn't drop until the 10th kill, but at least I now have 10 tokens which can be spent on another weapon. Definitely a crazy fight and lots to learn. Once everything clicks though, it's not so bad.

Kind of funny you mentioned damage meters as well, as that's a fight where everyone will have lower than normal dps. So many points where he can't be targeted. There's also one phase where he has a shield up that nullifies all damage until broken and another phase where he has a shield up that halves all damage.

Yeah the need to sort out the Ishgard Fates, NT is ridiculous at the minute with people grinding 50-60 when they should be able to do it much more efficiently in Ishgard.

Other than that HW is pretty damn awesome.

SE still has it, and they proved it with the near miraculous turn around on this game. I just wish we could get a single player game with this kind of high fantasy setting again. (and please don't give us another pretty boy wearing some kind of garish outfit) My ideal game would be high fantasy, maybe even set in the same world as this game, with a Shepard/Mass Effect type set up for the main character so we don't have a generic silent protagonist.

An amazing game, people who don't like the idea of MMO's are missing out because after the first big boss fight the story is pretty good. The hildebrand side quests are some of the best comedy writing in any game.

Ravana extreme is a blast, that is when you get the rare group that actually doesn't mess it up which is sadly few and far between.

Congratulations to SE. Game looks amazing but I don't play MMOs at all. They are heavily time consuming, expensive, and addictive to the point you'll have problems managing time to play other games and do non-gaming activities, never mind also working for a living.

Depends what content you play for. WoW's raiding content is as solid as ever, but everything surrounding it in the latest expansion is a complete and utter joke.

Got a 60 DRG and a 60 NIN, that Dragoon rotation though... i doubt the class could be played effectively on a pad.

If there wasn't a subscription fee I'd be all over this game. Just can't justify the price despite the fact I really want to play it and I hear it's awesome. I was a huge FFXI fan. So much of my life wasted for that game...

Gonna be picking it up in my next pay cheque... Did they kinda nullify end-game grinding gear?
