I can only look at the amount stuff they have sold and how much market share they have picked up to say at least to me it looks like it was a good idea.
My guess is they will eventually slip to fourth place behind PC, Wii and PS3 but the 360 demographic buys so many games that the devs will still see $$$ signs when deciding on what systems to release games for.
I definetly don't like the way they knowingly released a faulty console on their loyal customers just to get marketshare. I especially don't like how they tried to cover it up and flat out lie about it. "Defects within industry norms..."
I don't respect them at all for that move and don't see myself supporting Microsoft on the console front for a very long time. They will have to earn my trust back.. Two years with no fix is not helping their situation either.
In the end it might help Xbox short term, but it could work out bad for them longterm. Who's going to be first to buy the next Xbox. You wouldn't catch me dead doing that, I'll let someone else take the chance and see how it goes.
No because I went through 5 since I bought mine at launch. Got rid of the last refurb and bought another one with HDMI 6 months later. The first HDMI one was manufactured on 11/27/2007 and it died 2 days later, so I have had a total of 7.
My PS3 that I have had since June 2007 has had no issues.

You went through 5? Why? Why would you continue after it died the second time? I don't understand this at all.
It should have been released a few months later IMO. It's possible that they could have identified and solved the hardware problems earlier, plus the launch would have been more impressive with GRAW, Dead Or Alive 4 and Oblivion on day one. I doubt it would have affected anything down the line either, like the awesome 2007 or the Gears of War launch.

Alot of my friends have 360 so we get some good games in over Live. I enjoy alot of games on it, too bad the quality is crappy.
Yep. I would never have bought one if they didn't have the support they had, or Culdcept, or the last few years of games.
Or Culdcept.

I don't know if they would have solved it. It two years later and they are still having the problem. Mine has not gone ROD but then again i may not play it enough for it to happen.
And you're probably bitter that your precious gaming machine is losing in your cleverly biased poll. It's okay. I understand. Anything that casts your god-like 360 in a negative light must be a lie. Jared2720So you completely believe Vasichko, a notable PS3 supporter?
I bet if we go in his posting history, his amount of broken 360s will go down and UP, depending on the thread.

Or maybe he's not. Remember it's not a hardware or component issue it's a design flaw. According to Microsoft all, as in 100% of X360s have the defect. It's not if it's going to die it's when. And several reputable people have admitted to going thru multiple consoles. Including the editors at Kotaku and IGN both going thru multiple X360s.

Of course I don't completely believe him. I simply asked for his logic with respect to why he would continue to support the 360/M$ if he was, in fact, being honest. As for your point about him being biased, keep in mind that we're posting in a thread created by Reyes360. Any accusations pertaining to biases one way or another are automatically null and void.
I don't know. It sure didn't hurt...but I also don't think it has helped them at all.
Last gen I predicted the 360 would sell 40 million and the PS3 would sell about 80 million. That PS3 number may end up being off, but i think the 360 number is fair.
I have also said a number of times that the whole headstart idea was completely stupid and nobody should believe it. Ultimate console sales have never in the history of consoles been determined OR affected by who came out first or last. The PS1 was not out first, the PS2 was not out first, and I don't even think the SNES was out first. THe headstart was a myth...it was PR and advertising and the fanboys fell for it, as did the casuals and noobs.
I think teh 360 would be doing exactly the same regardless of when they launched. They had a solid launch lineup and a very solid first year or two. THey built up their userbase from the Xbox and diversified their game library. This is way more important to success than any "headstart" has ever provided.

Of course MS was correct in launching first.
The results speak for themselves. The xbox360 will increase it's userbase and marketshare from last gen. The x360 is now profitable. And developers are no longer giving Sony preferential treatment.
Only cows would think MS made a mistake in launching early

dont be upset that I called you out on commenting on an obvious lie. I dont want to get into a fight with you, you obviously are scorned and upset that your PS3 hasnt produced one good piece of software in over 14 months. Just get a 360 and Gears, Forza 2, Halo 3, and Mass Effect and I wont notice when you change your stance once again.
Tough call...they got a much needed head start but will it pay off? They are not going to reach PS2 numbers even with a $199 SKU and honestly the most I see them getting is 40 mil shipped which is good for MS.
RRoD doesn't seem to have that much of an effect but it is a problem.

Change my stance? What are you talking about? And if you actually believe the PS3 doesn't offer any good software, you really are delusional and have done nothing less than to completely discredit yourself in every possible way as a System Wars regular.
Also, way to ignore my question about how many 360's you've gone through. I seem to recall a thread in which you mentioned that at least one or two have croaked on you.

They could have been even more profitable had it not been for the hardware issues. How much did that cost MS last year? A billion? Launching in Q1 2006 would have given them a good amount of extra time to address any future hardware problems pre-launch. In fact, I believe we started to see the first shreds of evidence of a major hardware issue around that time. And I doubt that a few months wait would have an impact on the 360's growth - if anything, MS taking their time would result in a far better launch due to a greater availability of quality units and a better games lineup. Games development would carry on at the same pace. Not to mention that future customers wouldn't be swayed by hardware woes.

We all know the PS3 will die eventually like any other device, but it will certainly last longer than an X360.
