Poll Final verdict: Will you be playing Assassin's Creed: Shadows my fellow PC players of SW? (Token console players) (33 votes)

Yes, I will be playing it day one 15%
I might, but I will await for reviews before deciding to play it or skip it 24%
Yes but I'll be playing it through Ubisoft+ subscription just to play it safe 3%
Hell no, Ubisoft is trash 58%

We finally got the PC specs reveal just a few days ago for the PC side, so this is what we're getting at:

No Caption Provided

It's possible to run Shadows on Steam Deck. If it can run Valhalla, don't see why not for Shadows. But anyway, this is what Ubisoft had to say on their subreddit:

"Selective Raytracing: This mode uses raytracing only within the Hideout portion of the game. The reason behind this is that the Hideout allows extensive player customization at a level never seen before on Assassin’s Creed. Because of that, we cannot use traditional, pre-calculated, global illumination techniques, and therefore need to adopt a real-time approach. In all other gameplay situations, such as in the open world, raytracing will not be used.

However, if your GPU does not support hardware raytracing, such as pre-RTX GPUs, we have developed our own solution to allow competent, yet older, GPUs to run Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The game will use a proprietary software-based raytracing approach developed specifically for that. This was made to ensure Assassin's Creed Shadows remains accessible to as many players a possible."

I was gonna past this game as my experience with Star Wars: Outlaws was mixed bags to say the least. I do love using RT in my games. I wasn't aware it's using Anvil Engine, well you have my attention as I can run it in Extended RT with the current specs I have. Will play it using Ubisoft+ for sure.

Anyone owning PS5 Pro will see good results while playing Shadows no doubt. So what you say, will you play AC Shadows, wait for reviews, or just play something else? PC & New Gen Features Trailer:

I’ll probably play it later on down the road when it’s dirt cheap or on Game Pass. I think the game looks pretty good though. It’s simply just not a high priority game for me.

Well, if and when I play it won't be on PC. I might get it on PS5, but there are other games I'm more interested in, so its likely I'll buy it when it goes on sale.

Hell yeah I will. I told myself after Mirage another big RPG one (akin to Valhalla) a year after would be too much.

But I'm itching, I just like the loop of climbing buildings, stabbing baddies and getting drawn into the world.

As usual the only way I am ever getting AC Shadows is when the ultimate edition drops to at least $20 and it rot away in my library just like every other AC games in my library. Right now patiently waiting for Valhalla ultimate edition to drop to $20 or less. Ur dying ubisoft let me help u.

I haven't played an Assassins Creed game since Black Flag. This one looks fine, but I'm not interested in the series.

I feel like the series is running out of steam after endless sequels, and this one might drop in sales because of that.

I hate Ubisoft as a business, but I love their games (mostly). The AC series is no exception.

I'll play it down the road sometime. I need to finish KCD 2, then start Avowed, then going back to a few other games that I've been waiting to drop in price like Star Wars Outlaws

Like I get that people dislike Ubisoft for what they did wrong:

They took many linear franchises and made them open world

They took many developers and made them start work on the AC template

They made all their franchises feel very samey: AC, Far Cry, Tom Clancy (ghost recon), the crew

But can we really blame this all on Ubisoft when even developers of Rise of the Ronin, Horizon ZD, Spiderman and Ghost of Tsushima started to follow this template...

Furthermore, giving criticism to Ubisoft is one thing. But the people have turned into such zealots that they will downvote Ubisoft stuff before even giving it a try... Comon what? That's so childish. And not a good way to voice ones opinion.

I think Ubisoft is caught in a perfect storm though, and they still have products making money and strong IP.

No, I'll wait a year or so for a discounted all DLC edition. I tried Mirage and got so bored so quick I lost interest in Shadows. Such a shame as I really liked Valhalla. I still got Odyssey to play through so if I'm in an AC mood I'll try that instead.

Japans setting by default, regardless of many times it's used is always alluring.

However cannot say the same about Ass Creed as a game.

Have other options such as Ghost of Tsushima and Rise of the Rōnin.

No.

But I don't dislike or consider Ubisoft as trash. Just the idiots running the company seem to be self-destructive and done some horrible things.

These open-world fluff games have a large audience, that eat this up every year, and so long as a large pool of people like that I consider that good for gaming, because it caters towards a sizable demographic who want these kind of games.

Those kind of games just ain't for me, and when I do play an open world game I need something with more depth and intrigue.

Not at launch. Probably not this year either. I finished GOT fairly recently and have other games in the vein of AC to play so no real urgency to play it.

....Mind you I haven't played an AC in a long long time. Something to consider at some point.

If there happens to be no other games I'm ethralled with, I would check it out, perhaps with U+. However, this year has some major titles and I'm already deeply involved with KCD2 and going to dive back into Stalker 2 once the hardware ray tracing hits. Also want to give Avowed a try and, of course, I'm going to be addicted to Monster Hunter Wilds when that comes out.

Chances are I won't be trying it on release due to all of these other games going on, so I may just wait for a major sale and grab the ultimate edition for 20 bucks down the line.

@davillain: @R4gn4r0k: my views on Ubisoft are "good games, bad business".

I look back on the past few years of Ubisoft games, and I see a string of really fun products. Occasional flops and bad games aside, I found a lot of joy in many titles and very few genuinely bad releases.

In fact I would argue that SW Outlaws (which was mediocre, not really bad) and Skull and Bones are the only real weak offerings they've made in the past few years.

My main concern is more about how they can't seem to make enough money off these games, and that seems more like a leadership issue than a game issue. Also I will never ever forget when they tried to put NFT's in Ghost Recon Breakpoint; they really turned that game around into a super fun mil-sim-but-casual and then just had to add in NFT's lol.

No, I avoid companies such as Ubi, Activision, EA, etc at all costs. They were foundational to me becoming interested in gaming; due to a philosophical corporate shift in the years the industry has evolved that they’ve embraced, now I view them as wholly antithetical to it. They are dead to me.

Sure, all gaming is ultimately about making money, but the aforementioned companies place it above creative endeavor to its exploitation. Every time I attempt to give them the benefit of the doubt and play their “games”, I feel nothing but their grubby greedy hands seeping through the pores of their designs at every opportunity.

I cannot enjoy any creative enterprise when I constantly can sense capitalism‘s little fingers tugging at my wallet.

No, what appealed to me is the fact AC Shadows is using the Anvil Engine. As for specs, it's just an arbitrary setup of reference above which the developers/publishers feel confident saying you'll be able to run the game with decent performances. The same goes for minimum requirements, but those usually tend a bit more on the overkill side.

@mrbojangles25: the things Ubisoft lacks are being humble, and building customer good will.

Being humble: knowing your audience, don't start calling your games AAAA just because you jacked up the prices, don't start paying people to play your games (hyperscape)

And yeah they seem to want to bank as much as possible for short term gains, they don't care about building customer good will. Eventhough customer good will will go such a looong way.

But yeah all of these things seem given for a company hellbent on profit.

How come Activision can pull it off and Ubisoft seemingly has struggles?

Well look at it this way: Activision only banks on one franchise and tries to do it in the sleeziest way possible. While Ubisoft was still pushing out loads of singleplayer games.

I do miss variety, I miss the platformers (Rayman), adventures (Beyond good and evil, pop) or stealth games (Splinter cell).

I think Ubisoft over judged how long they could milk one type of game (open world grind-a-thon) while at the same time failing to break new ground (live service). Along with two issues In mentioned above

Six years ago, I might have been interested. Assassin's Creed finally set in Japan, where it always belonged. I would have been there on day 1, despite my fatigue with the series even by that point.

But I reiterate what I said before: playing Horizon Zero Dawn has made me 100% done with Assassin's Creed. Ubisoft-style open world games is a default genre these days, and you have to do something interesting with the formula to hold my interest.

At minimum, I want stories that doesn't feel blatantly like they're just making it up as they went along, or to fight something more interesting than dudes in armours.

I see that as a chore, having to look at specs to make sure it would run on my PC etc. As for this Anvil Engine, no idea what that is, what engine it runs on for me is irrelevant.

Its why I will always be a console gamer, buy a game, put it in your console, press play and away you go, PC gaming seems like such a chore.

Running around for countless hours doing the same things we've been doing for twenty years. Easy pass.

I'm finishing up sleeping Dogs right now. Open world games have a shot if they can nail combat like this. Despite the game being held back by nothing burger activities. They do get a lot right here though.

i read they'd completely overhauled the stealth in ac shadows. supposedly (and fittingly) shadows now serve as hiding spots and lights can be extinguished to create darkness to hide in.

sound apparently plays a big part in stealth, you have variable walking speed so you can tip toe past enemies and avoid detection when walking over creaky floor boards. and you can go prone now too.

all this sounds much better than the system they've used previously. i've always thought it's crazy to have an assassin based game that uses a stealth system so simplistic and one dimensional, and even crazier that it hasn't evolved in any meaningful way over the gazillion incarnations of the series.

so this is good news, and holds a bit of promise. i am a stealth fan so will keep an eye on it, just in case. the other side of the coin is, splinter cell chaos theory did all this and more back in '05, and only now is ac catching up to meet the "sophistication" of a game they previously made twenty years ago. that's off the charts levels of crazy
