No, they actualy have a lot more gameplay than shumps and a lot more complexity. They also take a lot longer to learn. Bassicaly compared to simulators shumps are casual games

Shumps are very difficult, they're very hard even if you memorize attack patterns.
Simulators on the other hand, are what they sound like. No gameplay what-so-ever.
they have gameplay, it's just realistic, complex and extremely hard to get to, which makes it hardcore, by comparision shumps are extremely simplistic, have almost no learning curve and depth. Of course you can go hardcore and learn the patterns, but that just means you are giving hardcore dedication to a casual game. Kind of like spending months mastering Peggle. It's hardcore and takes a lot of time, but Peggle still remains a casual game. Same with shumpsShumps are very difficult, they're very hard even if you memorize attack patterns.

Shumps = casual? Wow, you have a very high posting level but obviously you weren't talking about games. You have a lot to learn, my friend...

not really. You just have limited view of the shump genre. It is the most casual action genre, most arcade shumps were the very definition of casual gaming. Later on some shumps added more difficulty, but taking those few and somehow judging the whole genre based on them is pretty silly. Simulators are far more hardcore in every way. You just obviously never played a simulator in your life.

I think this entire argument is boiling down to. What makes a game hardcore? Complexity or difficulty/skill level?good joke :Dhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQZuidKexBQ /thread:P[QUOTE="RedFactionFan"]

This guy speaks the truthI second this. Although there have been epically hard SHUMPS saying that the overall genre is harder than the overall genre of Sims, is something I can't agree with.

Under Defeat is the best Shmup in my opinion.

Shoot EmUp
It usually refers to 2D vertical scrolling shooters, like Radiant Silvergun, Ikaruga, etc.
