With Fire Emblem: Fates coming out in a matter of just a few days, I was wondering which version you're going to get, and if you're getting both the versions, which one you will play first.

Also, will any of you be getting the Revelation DLC?

For those of you who are not clear on what the differences between the versions are, here are a few paragraphs from the Kotaku import preview of Conquest to help you (sorry, I'm posting from my phone so I can't link):

"Fire Emblem Fates is three games, not one—though each has the same set up. Kidnapped as a baby from the kingdom of Hoshido, your player character is raised as a member of rival nation Nohr’s royal family.

"All three versions are identical until the game’s sixth chapter where you must choose to side with your birth family (Birthright), the only family you’ve ever known (Conquest), or neither (Invisible Kingdom). The remaining 22 chapters are completely different from one another in both gameplay and story.

"The choice really is one of nature versus nurture. Do you side with strangers who share the same blood, or the brothers and sisters who you know and love—even though your “father” kidnapped you as a baby?

"The other big difference among the versions is the battles themselves. While the battles in Birthright are straightforward—i.e., kill the general/kill everyone—Conquest has more varied objectives like catch enemies, win within a time limit, defend a location, or break through enemy lines."

I myself am getting all three versions, but I'm not are on which version I want to play first. I'm leaning a bit more towards Conquest right now.

I'm going to buy all three in that bundle. I'll probably play Birthright first, and then move my way to Conquest.

I want to play the Conquest also. Should be fun to play as the Nohr.

Got the special edition, so I'm gonna play all three in the proper order: Birthright, Conquest, Revelation.

I will be getting all three. Haven't decided which one to tackle first, though I still have Sacred Stones to finish so I'm golden in the FE realm for a while.

The more modern one (birthright?) first because that one is a little easier to get into I hear.
And I hear birthright is associated with Hoshido which is fun to say and from a picture I saw they look like kick ass badasses.
HOSHIDOH

I know nothing about the actual differences or Fire Emblem lore.

I hope the next Dragon Age also comes in three editions. Mage edition, rogue edition and warrior edition. Just to hear what people have to say then. Experience whole new gameplay elements! Just buy the game three times! Your characters will even have a different backstory! Lulz. Why does this get a free pass again?

@quatoe @Bigboi500: I was thinking of doing Birthright first as well, but I've heard Conquest clowns it in almost every aspect possible. A little confused now :p

@nethernova: Because it's essentially 3 different games? Gameplay is the same, but different stories, and maps after the first 5 missions (out of 20+ total per game I believe).

I got the special edition, will be playing birthright, conquest, revelations in that order. Mostly because I hear birthright dumbs it down a little, so I can use that to warm up for conquest. Plus revelations is supposed to be played last anyways.

Quoting myself from the lounge:

[Birthright's] a fine game by all accounts, but it's meant for newcomers / casual fans of the series and people who care about the Hoshidan family; it doesn't pull the things on the player that Conquest does and will just end up a disappointment if you're expecting it to.

@KungfuKitten said:

"Little easier to get into" would be an understatement. :P

Conquest starts out as the equivalent of the World S of a Mario game. Many series veterans liked that. Then Conquest Ch. 10 happened and, uh...Let's just say a lot of experts had to re-evaluate themselves and turn down the difficulty a notch. It's a fantastic level as I can personally attest to, but if even veterans are getting themselves impaled by The Difficulty Spike of God-Damned Legends, I can't imagine what it'd do to others.

Funnily enough, the spike happens roughly around the time where a majority of FEs would become permanently easy regardless of difficulty.

You listen to the clowns of this forum too much, methinks. That mentality comes from xenophobic and ITG morons. Birthright sold more copies and is closer to Awakening, while Conquest is more difficult and closer to older titles. Birthright has more freedom and options to try new things and familiarize yourself with the system, plus I think it's better to up-scale the difficulty instead of down-scaling progression.

I want to get all 3 (would have gotten the special edition, but I guess Nintendo decided that only releasing 3 SE's would be fine and dandy...). I'll probably get Birthright first since it just makes more sense to start with the easier part of the series to familiarize myself with whatever new stuff Fates adds to the FE formula.

@Bigboi500: That makes sense, that it's better to upscale difficulty than downscale it, but Conquestnis genuinely better than Birthright from what I've heard, in terms of story and level design and mission variety and what have you. Of course, I'm not saying Birthright is going to be bad by any means- I loved Awakening, and if this is like that, then there's no reason I shouldn't like this too. Plus, as @Technoweirdo said, Birthright is a good game on its own merits. I'm just wondering if, after Conquest, Birthright might seem a little bland by comparison.
