Well, it seems it may be coming next month. At long ****ing last.

Is this the update that everyone has been holding their breath for? The one the will make PSN just as good as XBL if not better since it's free. I thought it was just a bedtime story fan boys were told so they can go to bed without thinking they made a mistake purchasing a PS3.player_leo
Beause we all know that achievements are the reason we play games
It's gonna get really interesting to see how people justify XBL cost in months to come.
"teh XBL powaaa" :P
[QUOTE="TMontana1004"]This rumor is hardly backed up by any facts. Don't other games already have trophy support? Don't you need Home to view trophies?thrones
According to the article there's 2d trophies as well, viewable from XMB.
Doesn't seem like anyone said it yet so i'm going to.

Well you probably missed it but since the introduction of achievements, playing games for the purpose of enjoyment died last gen. Now, if there are no achievements, the game is not worth playing.
Hasn't there been a rumor for this every month?
January: in game XMB in February!
February: in game XMB in March!
March: in game XMB in....

Supposedy they're '2D Trophies' similar to achievments. Not the 3D virtual trophies in Home.

lol what the hell does me typing on a computer have to do with custom soundtracks while playing my PS3? Are you suggesting I run a PC and control my music from that while turning off the in game music on every game on the PS3? I'd just play my 360 instead of going to that length.

Sorry, I did not know you were that lazy. If I did, I wouldn't have made such a foolish suggestion.
Sorry folks, don't hold your breath. We have heard these rumors for almost a year now. I will believe when I see it and as of now I doubt that will be next month.

Awesome. I wonder if the old games will get update patches to support trophies.carljohnson3456
One would hope so, but I doubt it. Achievements are better when they are implemented to make you play the game in a way you wouldn't normally do. If it's just "kill 50 enemies with the crossbow" they can keep it. Those kind of achievements are worthless. Look at Crackdowns list of achievements for a look at how achievements are done the right way. Or Mass Effect for achievement bonuses. tacked on trophies would just blow.
Another problem is that achievements are a Microsoft mandate. They have to be in every game in some form. There are no xbox 360 games without them, even the arcade titles. PSN trophies won't be, so I really don't see developers doing the extra work if they don't have to. They have enough trouble getting the games out the door.

you mean achivements with a different name?, oh the irony on those cows who mocked having acheivments.

Well apparently achievements add to the value of a game, so surely devs will want to add them in. I cant imagine them being that hard to implement either. I wonder if Sony will make devs use them. If big guns like Konami are pushing Sony to use them, that's a good sign that developers actually want them to. Hopefully these trophies will be good. If not, at least it's not going to take away from the game, lol.

Yeah. I just look at how important voice chat is in certain games and while it is wholly possible to do on the PS3 developers tend to omit it. And they don't add it later, they just move on to new projects.[QUOTE="carljohnson3456"][QUOTE="heretrix"] Another problem is that achievements are a Microsoft mandate. So these devs can make you sign up for their websites to get an ID then get a gaming ID, and so on. Online, Trophies, and in-game XMB might be really just up to the devs if they want to implement them or not, because Sony is not making them mandatory. And speaking about mandatory, the devs can also have mandatory installs if they wanted to.

Oh so i take it the way things will work, Sony will magically release loads of new features on time now, that will not only bring PSN up to the level of XBL, but also pass it. And while this is happening, XBL will be at a standstill, with M$ not bothering to do anything new and let Sony catch up?

I try not to.The whole process to get into the beta soured me to the whole thing. The fact that it isn't connected with PSN is going to make me bypass it when the game comes out. It was a really dumb move for Konami to keep MGO seperate from PSN. It's the one of the console's biggest games this year and they chose to bypass PSN?Could you imagine if Bungie had decided to make Halo 3 seperate fom XBL? WTF is up with that? Given how "smoothly" the beta went, I doubt that they could switch over and make it right by the time the game comes out next month even if they wanted to....

I thought the gaming ID for MGO was just for beta... and why sneak in a "mandatory install" comment? That's irrelevant.

Lol. Reverse C is one of the biggest and most ignorant lemmings on the site. As for him actually owning a PS3....I'm pretty sure he's faking it.
