a Reddit member called TheLastWitcher shared some pictures that he claims are the images of Cyber Punk 2077's UI ..which seems like a copy of Mass Effect dialogue wheel - I really hope this is fake , mass effect has one of the worst dialogue systems.

It’s not great at all , a dialogue wheel would decrease the number of things you want to say in the game since you can’t have more than 4 options –usually- , plus it makes interacting with other characters much harder when you want to inquire something from them

Bioware RPG very very shallow, but many RPG go this direction due to console.

I'd rather another Witcher game about Ciri :( ... or at least "Make your own Witcher, and live in the earlier days when it was thriving" sorta thing....

but ah well, hope this is good too.

Ouch, seems like this is going to be made to appeal to console casuals. I guess this rules out any rpg building system. Probably no classes or the like.

People who complain about dialogue wheels in rpgs are one of the cancers in gaming. No seriously if you think more dialogue = more choices, think again cause in the end that extra dialogue will do jack **** and will basically end the same as a dialogue wheel which the point of a DW is getting down to the point.

A prime example

Non dialogue wheel choice- "I don't know how to commence this struggle for rescuing your daughter black smith, but my band of adventures will do our best to bring back thy daughter, and I promise you she shall not be harmed"

dialogue wheel choice- "Yes we will save your Daughter"

Outside of a few extra lines for RP, you're still gonna save the black smiths daughter

Look at Pillars of Eternity to see how to do dialogue. You can read what you'll say. What you'll say can have consequence but it's not always about that. It can lead to different information, sometimes mutually exclusive. The situation, your character's knowledge, your character's personality and the person's disposition to you determine the dialogue to some degree.

That is still the best way to do dialogue in games. Also neigh impossible to achieve because it's so much work, but anything that approaches it will be better than anything that moves away from it or tries to simplify it.

They've been very good with dialogue in their other games so I'm not too worried about it. In The Witcher they played with it a little. You would pick something for him to say and instead of saying it he would get across the message in his own way. But I still prefer seeing everything your character will say when you have to choose.

the real cancer are 12 years old console gamers who think dumbing down the games UI and turning its dialogue system to a friendly-move one-hostile wheel make the game much better , RPG is not a telltale game with stupid C&C mechanic where you always make hasty decisions that hardly change the course of story ,extra dialogue ain’t gonna ruin the game , it would make the game more immersive and enrich it’s lore if the writer is good

CDP not console gamers.

Like crytek, gots a wiffils of console cash, dropping all ethics at the drop of a hat.

If anyone, besides them, is to blame, it's PC gamers. By simple virtue of "buy game", console gamers win.

All I see is QQ from a 19 year old neckbeard trying to be a hipster that knows nothing about cluttering UI/the screen with dialogue just so they can get their jollies off. As much as I love old school RPGs like Planescape, Baldurs Gate, Never Winter, D and D, the screen was literally 40% dialogue options and half those options didn't even fraking matter cause guess what shat ended the same way like ether you save the black smith's daughter or you don't.

He didn't even insult you, what's with the immature console gamers at this site?

Anyways look at what happened to Fallout 4 and Dragon Age 2 when they tried this. Vastly lower Meta Critic averages, both user and critic, than their predecessors and universally thought of as inferior from the fans. The QQ clearly isn't just from "19 year old neckbeards". I'm sure it's okay for a casual series that has been rpg-light from the start like Mass Effect, but not for more true RPG games.

These were found in the Witcher 3 files, when CDPR said goodbye to pc xD, nip the evil in the bud. PC lover developers have left this company. As I have already said more excited for Seven than Cyberpunk 2077 atm. I kid i kid !!! Meanwhile CD Projekt Red have recruited composer Piotrek Musial, who recently worked on This War of Mine, to lend his talents to the upcoming TW3 expansion & Cyberpunk.

Now you're at it again, harping on Mass Effect !

News flash : The Witcher 3 has the similar dialogue system.

I'm in line with @Ballroompirate on this matter, why would you waste your time on reading 10 paragraphs taking over half of your screen while you can easily tell briefly about the objective?

I don’t know why you keep bringing blacksmith and his daughter … is this the “lost in the castle” mission from DAO? if it is , it’s a poor example considering that game suffered from lazy writing not it's classic RPG dialogue options – not to mention Origins is still the best of series -

PS: I’m not a 19 years old hipster gamer, just an old school gamer who miss the silent protagonist and the vibe form old CRPG’s but you can believe what you want

So you are blaming DA2's lower Metacritic on the dialogue wheel? Now that is just stupid. Newsflash, DA2's problems were that the game was simply put, badly rushed, leading to recycled dungeons, and key story cuts.

And Fallout 4? Perhaps its the fact that Bethesda does not know how to do a dialogue wheel system correctly. Its abysmal even by the standards of games with dialogue wheels.

And DAI's dialogue system is actually more expansive than DAO's. Bioware games from KOTOR on do not have a lot of dialogue options.

And investigate more subjects, that leads to up to 5 more dialogue options with a second wheel, not counting "Back". You are not proving your point here. And not counting Investigate as a dialogue option, which leads to another wheel, there is 5 on the first wheel. So, there, 10: 5 on the choice/action wheel and 5 on the investigate wheel.

The Mass Effect system for the most part, allows as many dialogue options as most CRPGs.

it's 6 options at best for each interaction which could lead to more options but srsly how many lines do you think you can put around that circle ? and as far as I can remember those options mostly changed Shepard's attitude and the way he responds

let's see the number of options for the game I'm playing right now ....

And yet Divinity, while a great combat game, was a very bad CRPG. Your dialogue and choices carry very little weight and the persuasion system is utterly broken (I mean Fallout 4 level bad).
