First Person Shooters = Best Genre

i love RPG's but fps games are by far the best games out there and always find a way to break limitations of hardware (Goldeneye, Turok, HL1,2, Halo, Crysis,unreal, Killzone 2, Bioshock.)

I am so happy that this generation these games are finally getting the attentiont they deserve! Even though we are being swamped by mediocre titles like Pokemon Ten Billion Red Ruby Diamond Super Plus Bonus Gold Edition Deluxxx Pack Volume 10...

Because even though there are some excellent titles out and soon to come many people are getting tired of the same old frag fest or military campaigns we seem to play year in year out. FPS's have some of the biggest cliches and over done genres in gaming, from WW2 to tactical military shooters, which have been going for over a decade now.

FPS is my main genre, I like Amercian RPGs a lot, but they don't compare to the immersion and action you find in the great FPS titles.

Crysis IS the best looking game.

Far Cry WAS the best lookin game and every generation it is the FPS that battles for graphical dominance aswell as gameplay!

FPS is the genre I hate the most.

Yes I hated it more than party games and board games.

So I'm not excited about the direction gaming industry is going.

point and click adventure=best genre, because I say it is.

I'm so sick of FPSs and TPS (like gears). bioshock is the only one I'm buying for the rest of the year (unless you count MP3 as a FPS)

starcraft and other RTSs say NO.

Why is it whenever someone makes a thread about game genres all they come up with is FPSs and RPGs and no mention of any of the other genres out there... It's almost like they are dead and nobody cares about them..

Anyway I wouldnt say FPS is the best genre though, I'm actually quite annoyed at developers for making so many of them and focusing less on other genres. There needs to be way more veriaty in games, not just masses amounts of FPSs.

FPS games are definitely my favourite. Just look at my sig!

I do need a break from them sometimes so I also play RTS,action adventures, TPS and RPG games quite a lot as well.

lol Halo actually has a decent story but it's not really well told in the games. I had to play Halo 2 like 4 times before I finally knew what was going on! I've never had to do that before for any other game.

RPG - If you think that is repetitive, what do you call point and shoot?

RTS - overplayed? I guess starcraft is overplayed because people are still playing after all these years, but that's because it is THAT good.

Sports - considering the you can make millions of dollars coming up with game plans for basketball game, and how thick a coaches play book is, I'd say it is deeper than any other FPS.

Racing Sims - no comment

FPS - It does not require utmost reflexs and take most skills. Here are some genre that requires more skills than FPS. Fighting games, RTS (You want to see some skills? Go watch starcraft tourney on youtube), many action games like Ninja Gaiden Sigma. As for Stories, if you think FPS stories are best, you have to play more RPGs and Adventure games like Final Fantasy Tactics and The Longest Journey.

What is your meaning of best looking? Technically? Maybe FPS games have more concentrated developments on graphics because that is pretty much only noticeable improvements you can make in that genre. Best looking in terms of artistic value and all, I'd say FPS falls quite behind compared to many Square games like Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy games.

I was not FPS lover until Goldeneye came then after that it was TimeSplitters and only the first Halo, last year was revolution when Gears of war released, I do like FPSs now but I don't think it is the best genre but developers loves money that's why you see a lot of FPSs out there, I always thought FPSs is created for Developers who don't know how to develop other genres and I still think of that,

the reasons are : 1- No need to make solid story line.

2- No need to make Solid character models ( they all look the same)

3- I think it is the easiest gameplay to make ( the cover system is the only innvation )

4- No need to make detailed enviroment, all you have to do is shooting each other so nobody cares about enviroment, but I think developers are improving.

For me, it is Action/advanture>RPG>Fighter>Stealth>FPS>Sports

I like some of the better, mostly older action adventure titles also though.
