my 360 just died,I got it on december 18th 2005,I just got the 3 red lights,on top of all that they just told me that I am out of the "extended" warranty for luanch window buyers:evil: I talked with the rep...mind you this is 9 30 pm...just about 30 minutes ago and he said the best he could do was offer me 25% off...I said I am going to call in the morning to talk to someone higher up or something...I could of swore that the launch window buyers got a longer warranty then the 1 year they offer now.

I am actually very upset and had alot of choice words for them, that was when he offered the 25%off making my repair still over $100...!!! I will be sure to update you guys on what they say tomorrow when I call back and hopefully talk to someone in the upper level ...I figured no one upper level is there past 5 pm,

I took VERY good care of my 360 and if you check back through my post history you can see I educated people on how to care for a console...this is a 100% hardware failure. I have lost some respect for microsoft now and I dont know if I am going to feel the same way if I gotta pay over $100 to get my 360 fixed.....damn you faulty hardware:(

Bad luck dude.

Hardware issues is the main reason consumers should not get a console at launch. That, price, and lack of games too.

Agreed.  I've never gotten any system at launch.  I waited over a year to get my 360.

I can sympathize. I went through 2 360s myself (although they were covered via Best Buy's warranty) I would agree with your assessment: great system, great games, shoddy hardware.

When compared and contrasted with the PS3, I can make valid points of why the Xbox360 > PS3 in almost all categories. But hardware reliability is finally something that Sony can hang their hat on. (I guess they learned from their own hardware issues in the PS2) That's an important factor in a purchasing decision too. You can have all the great games you want but if you're praying the system doesn't die on you each time you boot up a game, there's not a lot of fun to be had.

I had an overheating problem, where i lost the video completely. I called in, and the rep over there was great that I talked to. It was hard to understand her some of the time because of her accent, but in the end she let me send it in, for free. I bought mine in June of 2006, and never bought a warranty because i've never had system problems(still have my original playstion, n64, xbox, gamcube, snes, all with no problems). So I sent in my 360 and all I had to pay for was shipping which was $16.99. I personally was happy with the service.

That's true. But there have been plenty of reports about launch 360s with problems. (Even just days after launch we heard rumors already) Thus far, all I've heard is the random PS3 here or there falling apart. No mass issues yet like the "red rings".

As much as I love my 360, I know they are absolutely ****ing terrible hardware wise.

Back luck. I'm always going to keep my unit in warranty for this exact reason.

Poor engineering should be expected of Microsoft. Look at their Operating Systems and software. Windows 95 and 98 crashed constantly. Internet Explorer is known to have the most vulnerabilities and security issues. Things are going to get worst the more you support Microsoft. Why? As Microsoft gain more market share and start tying users to their monopolies through things like Windows Live, be certain that they will cut back on Research and Development to recoupe all the lost capital they have dumped into luring users to their Xbox business.

Mine is dying too. Freezing all the time. My friends say MS is pretty good at replacing things, and plus I have friends at MS, so i'm not worried about the death of my 360.

that sucks man, i would just keep callin and asking for someone higher up, like youve been trying, and insist on them to fix it for free.

thats what a friend of mine did and it finally worked.  i love my 360 also but no denying that their reliability isnt that great.

Uggghh .... I hate to say it, but I may have to end up getting a PS3. I have heard way too many people complaining about the system. I love XBOX, but man, why pay for something that you can't have last forever. My Gamecube and original XBOX still work like new.

King....why....in the hell...did you buy a gaming system without the extended warranty? :| It's something that just needs to be factored into the initial cost. No way in hell I'm paying hundreds of dollars or outright buying a whole new system because it dies. I've had 1 Xbox, 2 PS2's and one PSOne die on me. I had the extended warranty for all but the PSOne. People please, but the extended warranty.

I got mine in January of 2006, and it just died on me about 3 weeks ago. :( And considering the warranty has expired....uhh....yeah....I am NOT rebuying it.  I don't feel like spending money on something that didn't work in the first place.  It was in a good spot, kept it cool, no dust, and it STILL died.  Gg.

my 360 just died,I got it on december 18th 2005,I just got the 3 red lights,on top of all that they just told me that I am out of the "extended" warranty for luanch window buyers:evil: I talked with the rep...mind you this is 9 30 pm...just about 30 minutes ago and he said the best he could do was offer me 25% off...I said I am going to call in the morning to talk to someone higher up or something...I could of swore that the launch window buyers got a longer warranty then the 1 year they offer now.

TO BE FAIR TO MICROSOFT I PLAYED OVER 3000 HOURS ON THE MACHINE THOUGH

King....why....in the hell...did you buy a gaming system without the extended warranty? :| It's something that just needs to be factored into the initial cost. No way in hell I'm paying hundreds of dollars or outright buying a whole new system because it dies. I've had 1 Xbox, 2 PS2's and one PSOne die on me. I had the extended warranty for all but the PSOne. People please, but the extended warranty.

man, honestly I never had a console die on me,I have owned every major console from the atari 5600. take very good care of my stuff...oh wait I take that back I spilled some pop on my dreamcast and it quit working so I swapted it out at meijer...but man I really thought my 360 was the man

word. I'm sorry to hear that, bro. but this equipment is too expensive no adays to play games. especially if you don't know if you have enough to get it replaced, should something strange happen. best of luck on this.

Uggghh .... I hate to say it, but I may have to end up getting a PS3. I have heard way too many people complaining about the system. I love XBOX, but man, why pay for something that you can't have last forever. My Gamecube and original XBOX still work like new. JDW_games
you have to factor in that they have fixed alot of things though...mine was a launch one...

My word?  I can't prove it, but why would I lie? Just for sh**s and giggles?  I bought one at launch, in a combo pack, with an extra controller, PDZ, and kameo.  I later bought GRAW, Gears of War, and Saint's Row.  Now I have a collection of games and a faulty system, all rendered worthless.  GFG microsoft.

Lol, yea you had something to say about me selling my 360 in a post last month. Don't mean to laugh at you but it is kind of ironic. I only sold it b/c I had went through my 2nd one.

The 360 is still a cool console and I'll buy another one when Ninja Gaiden 2 comes out.... but the truth is that I have been far more impressed with the PS3 than I was with the 360 (with the exception of a few 360 games that I really did like). If you own an HDTV, the PS3 really does seem like a better console for the money.... but then again, with its price, it really does HAVE to be a better console to even compete.

Still, for those that own a 360 already, the PS3 probably won't be worth owning until the holidays.

Yeah, my Xbox 1 never broke since I got it back in 2002.  At least microsoft has SOME redeeming qualities. :P
