I know this is weird topic, but I still remember my first water experience in a video game were my jaw dropped.

For me it would be ICO for PS2. There was was small puddle of water and I kept jumping in and swimming it not believing my eyes.

I even showed my friends back than, and they were amazed as well.

What was your first experience? and did you take a plunge?

Never... Until... CRYSIS!!!!

Water looked so amazing I thought to myself "Lets go swimming"!

Two minutes later while swimming... A huge shark comes and kills me, literally made me jump out of my chair and scream haha.

Super Mario Sunshine for me, such beautiful effects in that game really showed off what a good purchase the GC was early on.

Hard to say, but I liked the water in Donkey Kong 64 a lot.

I remember when pixel shaders came out on the PC graphics cards like the GeForce 3 and consoles like Xbox and pixel shaded water was considered the best thing ever.

Games like Morrowind had it, but when I actually saw it I wasn't all that impressed.

I'm now more impressed with what games like Wave Race 64 managed in their time.

That particular game had water effects far superior to any other game in that time.

Either Hydrophobia or Cryostasis: Sleep of Reason.

First time I'd ever seen water do something other than just look pretty in real-time.

Probably an old 90's FPS game like Duke Nukem or Quake, being underwater fascinated me a lot at the time.

I remember watching my friend play Super Mario Sunshine on her Gamecube circa 2002. I was blown away by how beautiful and clean it looked.

Wave Race 64 is the first time I was amazed by water effects.

As time progressed other games had amazing water effects like Super Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime, Half-Life 2 and Bioshock,

I was actually a little disappointed by Super Mario Sunshine's water. The reason is probably that I still had a old TV at the time.

It's amazing how developers managed to make water so beautiful and fluid with old technology back than.

To me when I look at it, it seems that it's the hardest to make in a game, but probably not.

Right now I really like the water in BBC2 it reflects so beautifully, especially the Vietnam map pack.
