Thing is, MOST of those people don't KNOW about PC gaming.

Kinthalis

Okay, what would happen if they did?

Some of them might drop in a free Team Fortress 2 game?

Some might pick up Amnesia Dark Descent and REALLY be scared by a video game?

Some might discover a truly unique indie title?

Some might play Oblivion with mods and have their minds blown?

Of course many still won't care, but at least they are comeing from an informed position, in which they can intelligently discuss the why's and what's, instead of coming up with utterly ignorant stuff, the kind of stuff you typically hear around this place. Stuff like:

I don't want to spend $50,000 on a PC that will be outdated .25 seconds after I bought it and then will catch a virus and self destruct, but only after beating up my dog and eating my homework!!!!

Hyberbole, sure, but nto by much, you know what I mean.

What's the point? I've offered plenty of informed opinions about why the PC doesn't work the way I would like, and how consoles better meet those needs. They get ignored. It's easier to write off your opponents as inferiors rather than to attempt in actual debate.

It's a fair bit better but graphics alone doesn't make a great game. I'm happy with console gaming.

Grpahics alone doesn't make a great game, agreed. But great gameplay + great graphics makes a superb game ;)

And again, superior ahrdware is NOT just about better graphics. Developers cna put all that muscle to work in other areas of the game as well.

Im too busy having fun to care, analyze your AA, and textures quality all you want, we'll be over here actually playing games.

turtlethetaffer

i dont do that but games are like girls.... the prettier the better.

Games are not like girls. I don't want todo the sex with them.

Too bad you only see girls as sex objects. Unless you meant something else that's horrible way of replying. :|

Considerably better, I'd wager. Not that it matters, I don't play games because they look purdy.

How often does that happen though? How many times do we see a game push the limits of physics? Once every few years? Crysis, maybe Red Faction Guerilla and next BF3? When's the last time a video game radically advanced AI routines? FEAR, way back at the start of the gen, and maybe KZ2?

NO, we usually get a bump in resolution and some fancy visual effects. Important sure, but don't make it seem like this superior hardware is being utilized to the best of its ability.

My desktop resolution right now is 1920x1080 and most games play in that resolution (older games, less)

Most console games are native resolution 1280x720

Objectively %30 less.

But console games are also upscaled to 1080p, which uses some graphical tricks to up the resolution.

Considering that, and graphic effects locked at "medium", subjectively about %10 less than a PC.

Also subjectively, I've played some games like Alan Wake, Forza, Gears 2, etc, that rival any kind of visuals I've seen on PC.

I can honestly say Forza 3 is the best (and best looking) racer that I've seen on any platform including PC.

You can brag about graphics all you like, quite frankly I'm not seeing a big discrepency, all I'm seeing is a bunch of BS from Pc developers with the DRM's, they are really choking the life out of PC-gaming, heck even the prices are starting to be the same.

What happened, PC games used to be $10-$15 less, now they are coming out at $60 like console games.

By next gen, Xbox720 and PS4, it will be even closer.

And if MS decides to make online-gaming a paid subscription service like Xbox Live thru Windows 8, and developers keep pushing DRM, if all of that happens you will never see me coming back to PC gaming, no way no how. My dad didn't raise no sucker.

In fact I might switch over to handhelds for my gaming.

Either that or just try to play everything thru Linux/Wine.

Seriously, Fallout 3, tiny screens?

That's how you compare the paltforms?

This si why there are people like the guy above you saying that the differences are small.

They aren't.

I've owned a 360, PS3, and Wii (still own the Wii) ANd a high end PC.

I've seen the difference, and it's NOT small.

I really don't care because my console games look just fine on my HDTV.

Seconded. The obsession with graphics, particularly minute differences that are otherwise hardly noticed, confounds me.

All I want are smooth edges and 60 frames, neither of which consoles can give me.

People are quick to ignore frame-rates in comparisons between consoles and PC. For me at least, having a smooth 60fps experience on a PC even at an equivalent graphics level is worth it to me to get it on PC.

And then I look at how much I´ve spent on console games this gen and it looks like it was even more than I spent on PC games, yet I have bought at least 4x more PC games. At least. Hardware is obviously not as cheap as a console, but considering the ton of money I save on games it pretty much ends up being cheaper than gaming on a console(let alone all three of them).

It's just consolite rage. People are seriously in denial.

Higher resolutions, better lighting and shadowing, tessellation, volumetric effects and hardware accellerated physics, higher resolution textures, more detailed meshes, better post processing effects. All of that + Anti-aliasinf, Anisotropic filtering AND 60 FPS.

And that's before we tlak about specific titles and the art/tech they bring to the table.

Those are not marginal differences. Those are night and day differences.

Yep. I can say as a poor uni student who loves to play as many games as possible I could simple not afford to keep up on most multiplats if I had to pay console prices. Steam and its sales have saved me more money than any console hardware could have.

On my HDTV, not much at all. On my old 19 inch SDTV, definitely like 2 times better. Either way, the difference is miniscule in most games. Not many games really take advantage of the graphics on PC either.

For 600€ you can build a pretty good PC,nothing completely top of the line but it will play most new releases at high quality settings(with the possible exception of Battlefield 3).

Console games hold their prices higher, for longer. I picked up Fallout New Vegas and all 3 DLCs last month for $30. Last week I bought The Witcher 2 for $20, and Deus Ex for $30. These are significant savings. I am not saying these kind of deals don't exist for console games but I sure as hell can't find them. Are you talking about DRM in regards to an awful experience? As a person who is online 99% of the time when at the computer and always buys games for only my use on one machine; it is not an issue. Although I fully understand if DRM irks you, I hate DRM on principle.

I've played New Vegas with a mix of Oco/Poco Bueno texture mods, and High Detailed Normal Maps mods.

The difference was [retty miniscule all things considered, and I eventually disabled them both completely because running them with Project Nevada and Wasteland Defense or RTS was problematic to say the least.

Alot better is an vast overstatement.

Oh please, steam has daily and weekend sales now, today I bought F1 2011 (35€ ),Civilization V (12€ ) and NFS HP(the one that came out only a few months ago for 6€ ),all of this for less than the price of a new console game. F1 2011 alone on the consoles is 64.99€ (or 59.99€,not sure),so yeah,I save a ton of money and because of that I have acess to a lot more games.

And yes, they do feel the same thing, but I guess you value a plastic box more than the game itself.

You're not looking hard enough. If savings are what you want, you'd be looking at rental and used game options on consoles. I find the entire price argument to be hilariously misinformed on both sides. I got New Vegas during D2D's summer sales for $7.50, and I got Alan Wake for $10 back near the beginning of the year. If you want to save money, it's a matter of knowing when and where to shop - not a simple platform vs. platform argument.

I rarely ever buy any game, PC or console, for over $30 unless I'm positive I'm getting my money's worth.

We're talking about machines that have objective numbers, you can count the pixels, it's a defined percentage.

All I hear is "I think it's night and day better" from people that are supposed to be technically more adept than us "console kiddies" but I seem to be the only one talking numbers.

You know what PC vs console screen shots look like to me?

They look like 360 vs PS3 screen shots.

Where the guy is like "HA! You see? 360 has 3 more blades of grass, DEFINITIVELY BETTER VERSION."

and the PC guy is like "HA!" You see? PC has 6 more blades of grass, DEFINITIVELY BETTER VERSION."

I've heard some hermits say, "Well if my friends don't get the PC version, then why should I suffer with the inferior version" that means you don't value your friends.

"Tesselation?"

I know a chick on XBL named Tessa, does that count?

Haha it is not so bad. Just never buy local, import all console games and buy digitally for PC games. Minor headaches here and there though. Regional pricing on some online stores can be stupid (MW3 is $100 pre-order on Steam), occasionally a game is banned (Left 4 Dead 2), but there's always a way around such things.

I've never seen a notable difference, sure they're better, but having medially better graphics isn't going to improve the overall experience much.

PC clearly has a real difference in graphics compared to conosles. This is why I don't understand stupid "lens of truth" threads because 90% of the time I have NO idea what people are arguing about. Like one picture is slightly darker than the other "oh no it's a failz" and everyone makes a big deal about something invisble. I don't get it.

+1 I don't get why they make a drama out of things sometimes, makes me lol when they bring up the darkness as you can change it in the options and some games prompt you when you start to change the brightness. I to this day haven't been able to tell the difference between RDR on 360 or PS3.

Me niether, and alot of people go around saying the PS3 version of RDR is "inferior" and I honestly have no idea where they are getting this from. It looks the same to me lol

Dunno and don't care as long as consoles have the best looking games.

Yes, 720p and below is where it's at. I find it funny how in a PC thread everyone's like 'oh resolution doesn't matter' 'there's barely a difference' 'gameplay>>>>graphics' And then you get 20 pages of gears and uncharted graphics king threads arguing over no difference. I guess that's system wars for you...

Did it ever dawn on you that maybe they are atleast two different kinds of console gamers?

There are console gamers like me who enjoy niche and Japanese games with low tech and some of the blockbuster console games without caring about the differences in the versions or how they stack up against PC, and then you have the other type of console gamers who only play FPSs and the blockbuster mainstream games and fight over graphics. Stop labeling us all together like that.

Depends on the PC not all PC gamers can max out every game they have.

Some play games on low settings .
