I'm not sure how thewy could make any more Mass Effects featuring Shepard, unless it was a prequel of some sort.
But by then, you know most of the future's outcome so all "teh big desizions" wouldn't really hold much weight when you know exactly how it's going to pan out.
But, hypothetically, if they made a sequel, I reckon they should bin Shepard and start afresh. maybe put you in the shoes of a member of a different race.
It would be interesting to explore the Mass Effectuniverse as a different hero (or anti-hero, depending on the series direction after ME3 who knows?) but I would greatly appreciate if they kept Shepard somewhat part of the experience. Whether he be on the council, an Alliance General, or whatever, Shepard would need to be in the game for at least a cameo appearance/fanservice, as well as the possibility for a (minor) role in the plot.
You just don't take out the iconic character and throw him away altogether.
Umm Shepard dies in Mass Effect 3 saving the Earth. So he/she is out of the picture.
New Character Please.
(btw: It is not a spoiler since I don't know if that is true or not 100% but what else do you expect from the generic hero story of Mass effect?)
"Shepherd" is not a character, it is whatever you build.
You could name him "Malkovitch" it doesn't make any difference.
You still have Paragon/Renegade conversation options, class choices, etc.
Perhaps sorta rip a page from MIB 2 and make him German Shepard. Yeah, I know, not spelled the same. :P
Eh, keep him.
next ME will be an MMO

The world already has enough MMO's and they all suck the sweat off a dead man's balls.

[QUOTE="funsohng"]But a Mass Effect without Conrad Verner, that's a huge, HUGE problem.Tikeio
I've played both games and I literally have no clue who that is.
He's the "annoying fan" in the ME series. You run into him for the first time in the Citadel in ME1.
Ah yes, I do remember him. He asks for your autograph or something and you don't hear from him again.
I always thought there was something sinister about that guy like he was a serial rapist/assassin who was going to jump me when I least expected it.
Did he ever make a reappearance?
yes, a pretty funny one in ME2Ah yes, I do remember him. He asks for your autograph or something and you don't hear from him again.

I think ME is too big to focus on one guy. Its not like Uncharted or God of War where its all about the guy, ME has this vast fiction surrounding it, and 3 games is plenty of time to play as him.
Even if Shephard is technically just an extension of yourself, I feel like they could do a lot more with customization and characterization by leaving him, and though you don't run the risk of getting bored of him nearly as much as with Ezio from Assassin's Creed (where you play his whole life, then two more games just dicking around with him as an old man), I still think they would do well with exploring other stories, characters and fictions within.
Personally, I'd love to see them turn it into the game equivalent of Star Wars and Star Trek. Keep this awesome franchise and make a bunch of books, comics, movies and spin off games from it. Maybe an RTS game focusing on the warring races before the humans came along, or a huge MMO like SWTOR... except its Mass Effect. Lots of opportunities for a non Shephard game.

I agree, only because I think bioware will try to copy WoW instead of trying something absolutely new.
However, If they kept it a TPS, with a similiar cd system, same cover system (not ToRs crap version), with every class and ability (+alot more), then I would love it. The only question is how would the map/world be.
I wouldn't rule it out, Bioware have thought of the idea and hinted at it many times. Also MMOs aren't that bad, certainly not as bad as sports/racing games.

Yes, he can be found in ME2 in the bar on Illium acting like a badass.
No. Both the voice actors are pretty bad, and Shepard in general is just an emotionless tool.
I'd rather have non-speaking PC's, so that you could pick different races and have more dialogue options. However it is unlikely that Bioware will ever go back to this.

SWTOR is really great I hear, so it would be cool if they could adapt Mass Effect into an even more awesome MMO. I don't know if they can do that for like ten years considering they spent $200 million on it and another MMO (even from them) would cut into their audience for SWTOR, but its nice to think about.

MMO's generally don't work for me, because they are based on corporations trying to find a way to justify a subscription, rather than having the subscription be a necessity driven by the type of gaming world they are trying to create.
You may not know this but the original justification for MMO fees were that they said they had to hire staff to write and run in-game events.
Eventually the "events" became automated programs running on the server, and the whole thing could practically be boiled down into a game with co-op running on private servers.
Nowadays the subscription money IS the goal, and the game design flows around that goal.
"What can we do so people will pay us $15"
rather than
"We need people to pay us $15 in order to do what we're trying to accomplish."
Also there's nothing wrong with sports and racing games, if you happen to like sports and racing.

Mass Effect is a lot bigger than Shepard. Frankly, his story is done after 3. Events such as the Rachni Wars and the Krogan Rebellion is such proof, as well as the Protheans before them.hiphops_saviorThe Krogan Rebellion alone could make for another (much better) trilogy. I'm kind of interested to see how this multiplayer turns out now... because they could easily do a co-op-centric game with krogan squads during the war. Might end up being a little too much like Gears though. >_> Also, a game based on Kai Leng is almost necessary at this point given how much potential they have given him in the novels. He is one of those badasses that everyone would (read: should) want to play as in a video game. My interest in the third game has risen above nil at this point, but I definitely won't get it on 360. I also hope the storytelling is like Lair of the Shadow Broker rather than everything else.
I view Shepard as just my avatar rather than a fleshed out character. They can take him out if they want, but it's still me making the decisions.

I think it would be awesome, if you played as a character other than Shepard, but possibly interacted with him/her in the game, they'd use your save data and it would look like the character you built in previous games.clone01That's not a bad idea, I could go along with that.
