If you still needed more confirmation about Sony's new PS3 model, which most believe will be a slimmed-down 40GB unit, this might be just what you need. Sony's Blu-raySavings.com lists the new model as a qualifier to receive five free Blu-ray movies once you've purchased the system.

Earlier this week, Sony spun us into a frenzy when an FCC filing was published detailing some features of the CECHG01 model. At this point, we're not too sure what Sony's waiting for as it keeps declining to comment on one of the worst-kept secrets of recent memory. Just go ahead and announce the thing already!

http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/09/29/blu-raysavings-com-lists-new-ps3-model/

this price and the playstation name will sell its self, note new games like uncharted, then rachet which misteriouly got switched to the 30 of oct.;), unreal t3, and im all good.(even though i all ready have me ps3

As the owner of a 20GB PS3 (which I beefed up to 120 GB), I can say with confidence that you're not missing a lot when it comes to the Wifi and memory card slots. The 40GB PS3 will almost definitely be a revamped version of the 20GB PS3 without the emotion chip and with 20GB more storage. So if you're on the fence about PS3, the 40GB will be a great way to grab a fully functiona PS3, as long as you don't absolutely need Wifi (and I can hardly imagine why you would need it... LAN lines reduce lag.)

There is undeniable proof of a new sku and it has wifi and 2 less usb ports. I will file the rest under speculation and a playstation fan's wet dream. Ithink the chances of it happening are better than it not happening.

Well, there was a WiFi label on that FCC filling, so I think the 40 GB will actually have WiFi.

I think it won't have memory card slots, or chrome trim. Fewer USB ports, and little to none backwards compatability.

Wi-Fi is wireless internet. If you connect online without a cord, odds are you're connecting to a Wi-Fi network.

It will have the same amount of BC as the 80gb or the PAL PS3s. Software emulation doesnt cost sony a dime so why would they take it out?

Oh, I thought it did cost them money. I knew it costs them a lot to produce the EE chip, and I just thought it costs them less with 80 GB. I didn't know it costs them nothing.

what? it'll have emulations which doesn't cost much. having 100% BC by basically adding a PS2 in the PS3 however does cost alot. either way almost all the games you have on PS2 will for on on the emulations PS3's

I know this is crazy but I had a chance to get a PS3 again last monday. I was in Best Buy and was looking at the 80gig model. Then I just bought a halo3 360 and a halo3 collectors edition. Now I got 2 360's, an elite and the Halo version. But when My tax return comes I'll get one again And my friend is an auto painter and is going to paint it ferrari yellow.

The 40GB PS3 will have the exact same bc as the 80GB one since it's software based. The emulation software on PS3 literally costs Sony nothing to install, so they will not take it out just for the sake of making the 40 gig look more gimped. The same goes for the USB ports. They will not cut the ammount of USB ports, because there's no reason to other than to make the system appear more gimped than the 80GB one. USB ports cost next to nothing to install, and are more about physical space availible than money.

Also, if the 40GB PS3 is real, Sony will almost definitely drop the 80GB PS3's price to $500, with Motorstorm included. it's starting to look like the 40GB PS3 might not be a revamped 20GB at all, but just an 80GB without the free game and 40GB less memory.

Good point. He is. But I think in the future company's need to stick to a $400 price point with consoles. It just matters. Sony has learned a valuable lesson from this. I assure you.

the motorstorm bundle is only for a limited time. sony including motorstorm is only to justufy paying $100 more for only 20 gigs more. if the 80 gig drops to $500 motorstorm will not be included.

not really. 360 has lots of AAAe (how many does the ps3 have? 0?) to justify spending the 400 while ps3 has... bluray? bluray doesn't justify the purchase for me, i have no hdtv and even if i did i wouldn't spend 30 on a movie.

Uh... $400 isn't cheap in my books... that's still mighty expensive for a gaming console. $300 would be much more reasonable. Not to mention, a console without Wifi just doesn't make sense.

This is wat i would do.

80 gig bundled with 2 rumble controlers and a game for 459.99
40 gig bundled with 1 blu-ray movie and a game for 359.99
20 gig bundled with 1 blu-ray movie and limited features 259.99

That would = win

EDIT: Bring back the 20gig

Never thought I'd say this but I actually want Blu-Ray to win this movie format war.

I'll be getting this new speculated model in about a year for games like Killzone 2 and some others, but I'm also very interested in high definition movies (I'll have a HDTV by that time too). I'd hate to have to pick up the add-on for the 360 just to do that (even though I'll be buying a 360 first).

Anyway that would probably mean a £250 PS3 here, damn nice price.

This is kind of funny,it seems Sony is cuting parts out of their consoles and MS is adding.
