No, but seriously. It's been a while, actually.

What are your five favourite gaming franchises of all time? They don't necessarily have to be good now.They could rank in your list because of previous quality or impact (or existence- RIP Age of Empires ;__; ).

While you're at it, what are your favourite games in your favourite franchises?

Here are mine-

• Mass Effect- Mass Effect 2 (or 3, I go back and forth)
• God of War- God of War III (used to be 2 some time back, but I recently replayed all six and realized I like 3 the best)
• The Legend of Zelda- A Link Between Worlds
• Pokemon- Pokemon OmegaRuby/AlphaSapphire (though Black and White are a close second)
• Mario Kart- Mario Kart 7

Assassin's Creed used to be up there until three or four years ago, but thanks to Ubisoft and their terrible handling of the franchise and the consequent dilution of its quality, it has been replaced by Mario Kart.

1. Pokemon - Ruby/Sapphire (this is the franchise that got me into gaming with the original Red/Blue)

4. Halo - Halo 5 (I personally like the story and the multiplayer is the best ever)

5. Mario Kart - Mario Kart 8 (Mario Kart 64 is a close second though)

1. Legend of Zelda- Windwaker

2. Prince of Persia- Warrior Within

3. Resident Evil- RE 4

4. Deus Ex- Human Revolution/Game of the Year Edition of the original Deus Ex

5. Splinter Cell- Chaos Theory.

It was tough narrowing it down to only 5, but other series I love are: Mass Effect, Dragon Age, The Witcher, Final Fantasy, Xenoblade, Donkey Kong, Super Mario, Ninja Gaiden, Trine, Fire Emblem, Earthbound (Mother), Odd world and many more.

1. Souls: Dark Souls. I don't think I need to justify this one.

2. Fire Emblem: Conquest. Best gameplay and encounter design in the English entries. I can see myself replaying this on a yearly basis like with Blazing Sword/Path of Radiance.

3. Doom: Doom. 23 years later and this is still the best shooter out there. It had such a huge impact on gaming, and is still just so much fun to pick up and replay. The modding community is something really special too.

4. Ys: Origins. In the isometric ARPG genre nothing comes close. The game would still be here if it was just Yunica, but the addition of Hugo and Mr. Claw with completely unique styles of play make this a must play.

5. Bladur's Gate: Shadows of Amn: Out of the original games this one is easily the best. The amount of content is ridiculous, the characters are great, and it has excellent encounter design all around. This is the standard I hold all CRPGs to, and of course they are all found wanting.

• Final Fantasy IX - personal favorite game, though I admit it's not the best or that the series as a whole is superb. But nostalgia is a wonderful thing.
• Dragon Quest VIII - this entry is probably the pinnacle of the series, arguably definitive of the JRPG genre as a whole.
• Persona Q - this is a two-fer, since PQ has more to do with Etrian Odyssey than Persona. And yet it's simultaneously better than predecessors for both the Persona and Etrian Odyssey franchises. Deal with it, Persona 3/4 lovers!
• Chrono Cross - almost didn't add this one because two games a series doesn't make? But yes, Cross is superior to Trigger.
• Zelda: Link to the Past - normally wouldn't include it on any of my top lists, but given the franchise-centric focus of this thread I included it. LttP is the template for all Zelda games to follow since 1991. It did it first, it did it best.

There are many series on par or very close to this list by the way but their current state is pathetic for my standards and taste. For example easily in my top 5 original Resident evil or RE2 could have been up there but after RE4 , series are so crap that i wont even mention them. Same for Final Fantasy series after 12 .

1. Zelda - Wind Waker because I'm a Gamecube baby.
2. Metroid - Super, because of the pretty colors
3. Mario - the third one on NES, also because of the pretty colors
4. Contra - Hard Corps, I actually haven't played this one yet but it has a wolf man in it so I have a feeling it will be my favorite
5. Castlevania - the first one on NES because I'm really good at it

1.) The Legend of Zelda - Twilight Princess because it was the first 3D one I played on a console and was a great experience

2.) Mario - Super Mario Galaxy because it was just perfect in every way

3.) Ace Attorney - Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations because of the glorious story and music

4.) Kingdom Hearts - 358/2 Days, definitely not the best and in fact may be one of the worst but I just enjoyed playing as Roxas. Mechanics just aren't as good as other handheld KH games but I really liked seeing things from Roxas' perspective.

5.) Assassin's Creed - AC II, still the best in the series for me.
