I just got a new laptop and was very excited about it. The only thing I wanted to change was the hard drive. It came with a 200gb hard drive and I wanted to upgrade to at leasta 5400gb hard drive. When I contacted HP, they said that my computer only supported up to a 4200rpm hard drive. I found that to be very odd with such a new computer with great specs other than the hard drive. It's a Intel Centrino Duo T7500, 2 gigs 657ghz ram, and 8400M GS video card.

I guess what I'm asking is, is this guy correct when he sais that I can't put a 5400rpm hard drive in my computer? Will it damage my system? Or should my system be able to handle it? Thanks for the help guys. Also, if for some reason ifI can't, should I stay with this system or should I go with a another one that has same specs except it has a 5400rpm hard drive and a x3100 intel graphics chip with no dedicated memory? What would be more crucial? a good video car with dedicated memory or a faster hard drive? I dont play many games on my computer but would like to edit video in the future. Thanks a lot guys!

There might be something peculiar about that specific model, such as lack of sufficient means to cool a faster drive, or lack of power to the drive to spin something faster.

However, I would simply guess that the guy was wrong and probably just looking at the 200 gig drives that they ship with, in which case the 4200 is probably the only one available. Though, I'll admit to be a novice with laptops, especially HPs.

ps, I understood you just fine without clarrification. ;)

Keep the 4200rpm harddrive cause it maynot have the power supply to have all that stuff running at once. Remember, this is a laptop

He could probably get a model with a smaller, but faster drive, and then if he needs more storage get an external USB 2 or Firewire drive.
