For each of the consoles. Which game do you think is going to stand out in your memory as a defining game that reminds you how great/bad this gen was in a few years?

For the Xbox 360 would you say Gears of War? Halo 3? Mass Effect? Ninja Gaiden 2? Banjo Threeie?

And for PC you've got a few things to choose from... Crysis? Far Cry 2?

PS3... The new Final Fantasy? Metal Gear Solid 4? LBP?

And the Wii... Zelda? Metroid? SMG? Super Smash Bros?

SMG, Crysis, and GEoW are standouts for me so far. Later on probably FF 13, FF 13 Versus, GTA4, MGS4, Brawl and RE5.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Much the way Melee stands out from last-gen)
Banjo Threeie (Gotta love the series)
Tekken 6 and possibly future Tekken's (As the series got most of my time from the PS2)

so far Bioshock and Wii Sports stick out

amongst announced games that I have yet to play I think: Mario Galaxy, Crysis, LittleBigPlanet, MGS4, and Spore will be big games for the generation as well

Super Mario Galaxy, seeing as how it has topped Ocarina of Time, a feat thought impossible by many. OK, thought impossible by ALL.

Hard to say. Graphically speaking, definitely Crysis on the PC, and it's no slouch in gameplay either.

Gears of War is the best shooter I've played this generation, and Mass Effect will probably end up being the best RPG, so that's going to be hard to choose between (but probably Mass Effect).

My favorite game will probably be MGS4. However, I'd have to say GTAIV as the defining game. RE5, SMG(Haven't played it yet), Crysis(Haven't played it yet), FFXIII, and Gears of War 2(No proof, but I expect it to make it to the 360) will probably be pretty huge.

For this "gen," which doesn't really exist in PC land...I'll say that if Starcraft 2 manages to somehow surpass the gameplay depth of the first (very unlikely) I'll consider it the game of the decade.

For the Wii, Smash Bros. Signifies Nintendo's best quality, fan service.

The 360, Gears of War. First game I saw and said, "wow, that couldn't have been as cool on the old systems"

The PS3, Final Fantasy 13. Signifies the continuing slide from substance to style, and the degradation of a once great behemoth to a lowly imp. Note the duality.

Don't really know about PC.

Which game do you think is going to stand out in your memory as a defining game that reminds you how great/bad this gen was in a few years?

I think Oblivion is the perfect example of current-gen gaming.

It looks great and is far more streamlined, but it's shorter, easier and shallower than the previous-gen prequels. Also, it's now full of minigames, and has very limited replayability (since one character can now do everything in the game).

I think that pretty much sums up many of the games this gen, generally speaking - too short, too easy, too shallow, or too many minigames.

for me it would be crysis : very beautiful graphics, open ended gamplay, incredible physics etc all combined in one package. this is out of the games available. far cry 2 may replace this if devs could deliver on what all they promised and make it fun at the same time, which looks really dificult to implement. then other future games may be starcraft 2, dragon age and spore

SMG(Although I didn't play it, it seems extraordinary,)

And Crysis.

Also let me note that the Orange Box is NOT defining in anyway as a whole. Portal is the only game in the OB that redefines.

Same goes with Oblivion. Morrowind > Oblivion

Bioshock was just stupid because of the boring action in the game, crappy use of RPG elements, and it's also repetitive.

Thats hard for me to say. I am a hermit and we don't have "gens". I guess I would say Crysis.
