"The feature will allow you to communicate with your friends at any time, enabling you to chat about the weather even if youre enjoying completely different games. This functionality, however, will expand to the PlayStation Vita, too.

Responding to fan queries on Twitter, likeable Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida confirmed that the Party Chat feature will work across systems, meaning that youll be able to keep in touch with your buddies even if youre playing on completely different consoles. The next generation is going to be glorious, isnt it?"

I thought the PS3 & Vita had the same amount of RAM, so why wasn't cross party chat ever added to the PS3, if the Vita is capable of it? Good news anyway, I guess.

VIta? Great for those 3 people that have one I guess.

Can't they just get skype and have real cross platform chat?

Vita is looking good TBH, but I don't buy more than one system a year, so I'll be spending my money on PS4 only.

Emmm Xbox Live and GFWL are technically same service, which means you can message and join party chats between them.... problem is no body cared to notice that people think they are separate service It's like people have no idea that in old battle.net you can chat without players from other games and join there chat room, to makes things more fun... they have no idea that they can use same account to all old battle.net games

GFWL is going offline next year, and you could never join party chats with GFWL. The only thing you could do is invite someone to a private chat.

360 already has cross-platform chat.  I've talked to my 360 friends from my PC plenty of times.

And this news isn't even special if it's only Vita <-> PS4.

Because Sony, despite their assurances, is abandoning PS3.

What people might not getting here (as i noticem ost people don't) is that cross-platfrom networking is not really hard and it does not need too much thinking, same as every device can use HTTP to browse websites (for free btw ;]). Internet works the same, any device can connect to any device in network, regardless what device you use, regardless what service it use, it just have to be code it to support it..... and if game is ported to other platforms it already got network code to connect to any device and play with others. Bigger blocks here are marketing practices and huge people unawareness of how Internet work (if they would know they would treat Xbox Live as same as DRM that MS tried to push, as it is same class of BS). In other words cross-platfrom gaming is nothing revolutionary.... it is how network gaming should look like since very beginning as it is technically possible by definition of Internet.... companies just need to let it happen because in past they don't want to.

The vita has more system ram than the PS3. 512 vs 256.

Some games already have it. Like that new upcoming Hell Divers game. You can play together from Vita, PS3 or PS4

The hardware design is sleek...the LED screen is just beautiful to play games on it..Dont worry about games because there will be plenty of it since Sony is pushing a lot of indie games to it..Vita will eventually get more great games too...

Nothing against the system. I always hope all systems find a good market. Just not a portable gamer anymore.

Not sure if it is still there, but War Thunder claims to be 'Cross Platform' I play the hell out of that game on PC, and I have no freakin' idea how the hell it would be fair to pit PS4 players against PC players in a damn flight game. I will look if it is still there, brb.

EDIT: There you go. Says it right in the first sentence. "And Gaijin Entertainment is especially proud to announce that there will be cross-platform multiplayer battles between PS4 and PC users."

Welcome to the 21st Centuary.

All the hardware/software manufacturers have ever had to do is agree with each other over which voice coms system to universally use. Be it Teamspeak, Ventrillo, Skype (MS would prefer this as they own it) etc. and we'd have had cross system chat years ago. With Skype you'd even be able to call someones phone on the other side of the world from your console and if it was implemented like on PC it wouldn't cost you anything either.

Slowly the console manufacturers are absorbing the lessons taught to them by the PC. (except they'll probably find a way to charge you more money for it)
