Yeah, I was expecting the OP to say EoE.

Just a question, but why does it have to be compared to FF13?

Resonance of Fate does look awesome, but that's far from a reason to forget Final Fantasy XIII, which will also be awesome (probably, in my opinion, an even higher degree of awesomeness).

Looks good, but also a bit crappy at the same time. Glad there has been a recent revival in JRPGs/RPGs of late.

Looks like it's going to be solid. I like the idea of the gunplay. Might give it a look, but FFXIII is already pre-ordered.

Exploration, talking to people etc, aren't always fun in an RPG. Sometimes they can be downright frustrating. Linearity has nothing to do with the quality of the gameplay of an RPG, at least not to me.

At least play both games before making such accusations.

Anyways someone that HAS played FF13 like Hakamarou or whatever his name is will just come in here and start picking away at your argument.

Just because a game might do those things doesn't mean it will do them well. I'd rather have a game that is linear, A-to-B adventure than a game that tries to do all of the above and can't do one of them any good.

Is it just me or did the combat not look that good? Sure it looked more "action-y" but when you actually pay attention you can tell it's simply turn-based combat with a bit more flare. A lot of the attacks had the same animations as well, which took away from the action-y aspect whenever you realize you're simply selecting "attack" and he goes into a canned animation. This is turn based but instead clicking attack and you see a sword swipe, the guy jumps in the air and shoots. Looks cooler but really is still the same old turn based combat that needs to go away.

Why can't people just accept that the FF13 reviews have started to come in and they are fairly average... everyone is clinging onto FF13 like it MUST be good because it is FF. This game looks far more fresh than FF13, yes, it lacks the production values because the budget was obviously smaller, but it is a breath of fresh air... The whole idea of a RPG is that YOU PLAY A ROLE, and DEVELOP that ROLE as you see fit. FF13 does not offer this... everyone will experience the SAME adventure...A to B

The combat doesn't work that way at all. You need to watch some other videos. I suggest going to gametrailers and watching everything they have. The game is going to be amazing.

I actually like talking to everyone in the towns to find out what they have to say, even if it isn't compelling.

I actually do think so. There is a lot of information that is conveyed through a town npc that you wouldn't otherwise be privy to. Much of the story in RPGs are presented through an unintrusive means. Take for instance World of Warcraft. Many people mistakingly say that the game lacks story. The fact of the matter is that tons of story is being presented through ambient dialogue and quest descriptions that people are not taking the time to read. People think that if it isn't in over budgeted CGI form, it isn't story. I hate to break it to people, but I'm far more content with the ambient stories going on in WoW (like the tyranny of the blood elf council on the citizens) than I am the crap that is getting thrown into CGIs nowadays. NPC speech in towns add a degree of backstory, culture, and other things that just aren't present in other media forms, or atleast aren't as indepth as you may find with off-colour chat bubbles. After all, not all of the story need be directed right at the player. You're not the center of everything in these worlds, and it is refreshing to hear about a street merchant who can't get his goods in on time due to taxes or something like that.

I quote from the recent copy of PSM3 - big UK PS3 MAG

Their review for FF13 stated:

"In the end, the backgrounds - whilst gorgeously detailed - are so superficial they cease to matter. Just keep pushing up and you'll get to the next bit. In terms of level design, it is less sophisticated than Pac Man"

I'm really looking for it. In fact, this year I have been looking so far Star Ocean TLH, FF13 and this one. Of course, Star is my first game on my list, then FF13 and then Resonance. Of course, I'll watch some reviews and see if I change the buy order but anyways, I'll buy these 3 jrpg rpgs.

I agree with this. I am not going to nag on Final Fantasy XIII for its lack of it, but even those cheap one-liners do add immensely to the story.

Watered down how? Because it's no longer a grindfest like the original FF games? Or that you only control one character? It sounds streamlined to be a more strategic experience. Different, not watered down.

Nope, I've read about the story from official press releases:
It is kind of similar to Fallout 1; There are evil corporations who are creating these kind of eden devices which are keeping a dieing planet alive. A bunch of people are beginning to try and subterfuge this effort. There, you come in. While in Fallout you were trying to get an Eden device, this game is a bit different in that you are trying to stop Mr. Corporate.
Original? For a JRPG.

can someone tell me why is this game so WOwed ? i got interested at the beginning buh when i saw the combat i got meh, the same animations are boring.the-obiwan
The story concept is original, atleast for a JRPG anyway.

so you have played it already ? like the full version not talking about the demo cuz from what i saw its pure battle since the beginning of that demo.

The game has been released in Japan for some time now. A lot of people imported it.

Im pretty tired of JRPG's theyre legit..The same crap over and over.. People shouldnt be calling God of War and Halo Rehashes, almost every JRPG should be called a rehash. The same trite characters, sloppy joe voice acting (sometimes) and rarely any true innovation. Tired of it. And no sir, FF13 will most likely devour this game.

Yes oh yes, RoF does look quite delicious, looking forward to it a bit more than FFXIII.

A lot of us are. :P I hope they release a demo like they did in japan..

Id say expect a demo for both RoF and XIII by the end of this month.

The same could be said for almost any genre (though JRPG is not a genre), look at First Person Shooters, the core gameplay has changed so drastically this generation has it not?
