Looks like it's going to be solid. I like the idea of the gunplay. Might give it a look, but FFXIII is already pre-ordered.
cos FF has forgotten all the things that make RPG's fun - exploration, talking to people, finding secrets, doing side quest. FF13 is simply A to B adventureYeah, I was expecting the OP to say EoE.
Just a question, but why does it have to be compared to FF13?

Exploration, talking to people etc, aren't always fun in an RPG. Sometimes they can be downright frustrating. Linearity has nothing to do with the quality of the gameplay of an RPG, at least not to me.

Anyways someone that HAS played FF13 like Hakamarou or whatever his name is will just come in here and start picking away at your argument.
A little late to the party there, buddy. Anyone who knows anything about JRPGs will be buying this game. AAA from teh realz reviewers out there! ;)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7C_4tkYjfTM

FF13 is simply A to B adventure Just because a game might do those things doesn't mean it will do them well. I'd rather have a game that is linear, A-to-B adventure than a game that tries to do all of the above and can't do one of them any good.Yeah, I was expecting the OP to say EoE.

[QUOTE="Yandere"]cos FF has forgotten all the things that make RPG's fun - exploration, talking to people, finding secrets, doing side quest. FF13 is simply A to B adventure 1) There is exploration. 2) Talking to peopel is fun? oh please... those 1 liners from NPCs in the towns were amazing  3) There is secrets. 4) there is side quests. So basically, you dont know anything about FF13 and your just on the "lolololol linear map" bandwagon.Yeah, I was expecting the OP to say EoE.

Why can't people just accept that the FF13 reviews have started to come in and they are fairly average... everyone is clinging onto FF13 like it MUST be good because it is FF. This game looks far more fresh than FF13, yes, it lacks the production values because the budget was obviously smaller, but it is a breath of fresh air... The whole idea of a RPG is that YOU PLAY A ROLE, and DEVELOP that ROLE as you see fit. FF13 does not offer this... everyone will experience the SAME adventure...A to B[QUOTE="thetruespin"][QUOTE="Yandere"]cos FF has forgotten all the things that make RPG's fun - exploration, talking to people, finding secrets, doing side quest. I actually like talking to everyone in the towns to find out what they have to say, even if it isn't compelling.

I quote from the recent copy of PSM3 - big UK PS3 MAG
Their review for FF13 stated:
"In the end, the backgrounds - whilst gorgeously detailed - are so superficial they cease to matter. Just keep pushing up and you'll get to the next bit. In terms of level design, it is less sophisticated than Pac Man"

That statement sounds like a cry for attention, rather than an objective criticism of the game.
A lot of us are. :P I hope they release a demo like they did in japan..Yes oh yes, RoF does look quite delicious, looking forward to it a bit more than FFXIII.

no... it reflects the fact that they have watered down everything and, like RE4, have created yet another action game... great..[QUOTE="jimkabrhel"][QUOTE="thetruespin"]

no... it reflects the fact that they have watered down everything and, like RE4, have created yet another action game... great..Watered down how? Because it's no longer a grindfest like the original FF games? Or that you only control one character? It sounds streamlined to be a more strategic experience. Different, not watered down.

Im pretty tired of JRPG's theyre legit..The same crap over and over.. People shouldnt be calling God of War and Halo Rehashes, almost every JRPG should be called a rehash. The same trite characters, sloppy joe voice acting (sometimes) and rarely any true innovation. Tired of it. And no sir, FF13 will most likely devour this game.

Id say expect a demo for both RoF and XIII by the end of this month.

The same could be said for almost any genre (though JRPG is not a genre), look at First Person Shooters, the core gameplay has changed so drastically this generation has it not?
