Ok I personally think Natal and the Sony wands are a huge gimmick that will have tons of hype but no substance.. Natal and motion controls are not practical at all, im not trying to sound funny but a lot of PS3/360 gamers are overweight.. Now do you really think the average 14 year old that comes home after school to sit back, relax and play MW2 will in any way be attracted to Natal or Sony wands? i dont think so..

What is MS trying to accomplish exactly with Natal? Are they even looking to use it for gaming? the other day MS was saying how Natal will replace remote controls for TVs and give a brand new way to watch and interact with Television.. umm yea thats great MS but what does that have to do with GOOD games (Keyword GOOD). The Sony wand also looks very average and pointless.

Now grant it 3D gaming on the surface might not seem as revolutionary as say Natal or Wands, but its MORE PRACTICAL. Its totally feasible to see coming home, putting on the 3D glasses and jumping on Killzone 2 Online and getting even more immersed in GOOD games by 3D technology or with games like Gran Turismo 5 which already support 3D.

3D would make the more hardcore shooter audience happy and at the same time its something "new" sony can try so everyone is happy. And with Blu ray supporting 3D movies that will appeal more to casuals in my opinion.. How does Natal actually change the movie watching experience other than the fact you can say "movie on" and the movie comes on? with 3D blu ray that will be more immersive and take it to another level.

They both will fail. I for one hate motion controls. Too gimicky, too poorly implemented in all games, it makes games not fun. If i wanted to play tennis, i'd go out and play tennis, if I wanted to snowboard, Mt. Charleston is like 30 minutes away. If i wanted to skateboard I'd buy a skateboard and have fun outside, not step on a plastic unresponsive board and pretend i'm super awesome. Video games are meant to be played with a controller, weather it be a keyboard and mouse, or dualshock, they are meant to be played while stationarily sitting down relaxing and enjoying a game. These gimicky controls will both fail.

Bleeding eyes and headaches are the future of gaming?

Sorry to inform you, but Natal will have a much bigger impact on gaming this gen then some gimmick like "3D" gaming.

There was some podcast that was talking about playing Avatar in 3D. They said that it wasn't cheesy pop out at you like a 3D movie. They say that it's depth. One of the people said that it's like you're looking outside a window at your front lawn, but instead of your lawn, there's a video game happening. It's hard to even comprehend that without experiencing it, but it sounds amazing and everyone on the podcast who played it like that seemed to have their mind blown. Like Mario 64 or something.

If SONY fuses the 3D gaming project with the "Phere" (Wands) project, that would be EPIC.

3D is more of a gimmick than motion controls. Atleast those can change the way you play. All 3d does is have you wear goofy googles. I can't stand it in movies and I hope it fails in games.

Man. With the wands looking like they do, calling it something that starts with "Ph" probably isn't the best choice.

This is the future of gaming: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd3-eiid-Uw

imagine using the sixaxis to play modern warfare 2 in 3d like this, actually looking around corners and over ledges.

No thanks. I really do not need objects flying at my face at ridiculous speeds and angles.

First movies, now games. What's next, are we going to make music 3D?

The only problem with 3d is you need a tv that runs at 120hz, the majority of people only have 60hz tv displays and i can't picture too many people running out to buy new tvs so they can game in 3d. However a few years down the road if more people own adequate tvs it may catch on.

it may be but not the kind sony is releasing, they use shutters, which lots of people will be able to see. thats the last i've heard of it, it would be great if it used the same tech as movies do

Here is what will happen:
Natal will launch for too high of a price. People will refuse to pick it up until a price drop. A pricedrop will come, but it will be too late, too few people bought the thing, so devs stopped supporting it. With no new games, people will not buy it and Natal will be dead before 2012

Sony Wand: This will have better reception and immediate market penetration, but, like the Wii, 3rd parties will have a difficult time selling games to compete with the rest of the PS3's library. The controller will sell better than Natal for a while until people stop buying games. Then developer support will fall sharply. The only hope on the Wii for 3rd parties is to go casual. The PS3 doesn't even have that. The only hope for this baby is Wii ports, which may not happen because of the advanced architecture.

3D gaming: Introduced in 2010 by a Sony PS3 firmware update, if possible MS will do the same on the 360 by 2012. The idea will not take off until the next gen arrives. People are still just buying HD TVs. This WILL take off because it is the next step in television but its not like it will take off when its on the PS3.

Sony merging the motion wands and 3D seems like a likely scenario, which would be pretty awesome.

We're now hyping a 2011 feature I doubt the PS3 is even strong enough to do? Wow, this place never runs out of things to hype.

I hope not. 3D is just not that worth it, and I particularly like the effect.
