Forza 2 is an awesome game at heart, but the developers decided to make it suck. You see, in Forza, if you drive your car at 200km/h on the road, and then drive on the grass or dirt, your car will have its speed reduced to like 15km/h. Even if its a Ferrari. How anybody call this game "realistic" is beyond me. I was just playing Forza 2 a few minutes ago, but get angry over the fact that my Ferrari spun around of control because I drove on the grass for 2 straight seconds. Forza developers think that driving on grass is similar to driving during an earthquake. You spin out control, you cannot drive more than 15km/h, can't drive in a straight line, and cannot accelerate properly unless you get back on the road. Yeah, talk about realistic. Forza 2 could have been a great game IF ONLY the developers weren't dumb.

Having 400+ cars and better graphics won't make Forza 3 any better than Forza 2 if they can't get the physics right. Driving on grass or dirt DOES NOT equal driving during a hurricane or earthquake. As a result of this, I most likely won't be getting Forza 3. Turn 10 won't be getting a penny from me unless they fix the physics issues and over-exaggerated penalties. Please don't insult Gran Turismo by comparing to that rubbish excuse of a racing game.

So because you don't have to stay on the track in Gran Turismo makes it a better game? Hell, why not just remove tracks entirely and just put in 15 different straight lines with different backgrounds. This is a videogame meant to be played online; who wants to adhere to a racing line for an entire race, showing their skill along the way, only to be beaten by some idiot who decides to drive through the grass/sand/rocks/ocean in order to cut 5-10 seconds off of his time? If that is the sort of thing Gran Turismo 5 let's you do, than count me out.

I'm not a fanboy, if you look at my previous posts, you will see I am pro-360 more than anything (I will even buy a day-one Natal buyer). Either way, I hate Forza because its got unrealistic physics, not because of what platform its on.

Exactly, I love Forza 2 BUT the physics is all messed up and the penalties are way over-exagerated. Driving on grass is similar to driving during an earthquake.

You don't "choose" to drive on grass. Sometimes the corners are sharp and some opponents get in your way, making it hard to keep on the road at all times. Gran Turismo does have grass/dirt penalties as well, but not as harsh as Forza. In Forza, driving on grass sometimes means you have to restart the race.

watch lewis hamilton drop his mclaren at monza from a few weeks ago, just because he put a wheel on the grass. grass provides no grip.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they took out this aspect in Forza 3 (slowing down off track).

If it's true, then you have nothing to worry about.

A Forza 3 review that is scored at 9.4 and a GT PSP review that is scored at 6.7 (incidentally, GT PSP is the game that Polyphony has claimed several times GT 5 will be modelled on) disagree with you, TC.

Actually yes, you can "choose" to use the grass. I can name quite a few tracks in Forza 2 that will make it into GT5/Forza 3 as well that have a huge grass area capable of cutting 5-10 seconds off of someone's time if they were able to drive through it without penalty. If that sort of thing goes unchecked than the game is broken and nobody will play it online.

You're still not supposed to go in the grass in those instances. If you don't have a clear lead going into a corner, you don't get the inside line and have to either take a slower outside line or brake and fall back into the draft to make another attempt in a later corner. I'll grant you that most racing sims' AI aren't programmed to properly follow the rules of racing. And I think Forza actually goes pretty easy on people who end up in the grass. Given the grip difference between asphalt and grass, anyone who drops a wheel for a significant length of time is probably going around end-first.

Every driving game should be an improvement from the last. Your assuming that Forza 3 physicswill be bad because of Forza 2. Of course they are going to improve the game. If you take your way of thinking then you have to say GT5 is going to be a rubbish game unless they fix the physics from GT4, which we know they have been working on. For me its probably more true with GT5 as i dont want the bumper car physics of GT4 and i dont want the stupid slow down penatey system of GT5: prologue.

Whats with the fanboy title?

Turn 10said a couple of days ago that the speed will be reduced when on grass.

yeah lets complain because you can't mash the pedal down on a 500hp plus car in the grass and it won't drive right.... it's hard to believe people are even serious with this kind of stuff.

this reminds me of the vid the other day where the car was sliding on it's roof down the track and people were all "haha plastic cars!!!111!!!"

i won't blame you guys for not being rocket scientists and understanding inertia but come-on you can look at autobahn accidents on youtube and watch cars slide a half mile on their tops and that's after the impact that kills off a bunch of momentum and puts them on their top

i don't know why i'm suprised with you folks though, sw is all about denying reality

or you could just learn how to drive in the game where you don't have to cut corners to win. :| btw....GT5P is absolute garbage and I wish I didn't buy it for even $15. Unless PD fixes their horrible physics and perfect AI drivers, PD won't be getting a penny from me. I'll take a game with a minor flaw that doesn't effect me over a game with last gen physics, and horrible AI any day. Enjoy your last gen HD racer.

I don't do it on purpose. I have spent over 40 hours on Forza 2, so of course its bound to happen sometimes. Might as well ask me to play Gears of War without ever getting shot by a locust, or play Soul Calibur without ever getting punched. It's not possible.

TC, "You spin out control, you cannot drive more than 15km/h" that's exactly what happens if you drove on actual grass, I am sorry you will never be able to drive 100mph+ on the grass without losing control, you might need some youtube videos, or a physics class :P

Solution: Don't drive on the grass.

I don't do it on purpose. I have spent over 40 hours on Forza 2, so of course its bound to happen sometimes. Might as well ask me to play Gears of War without ever getting shot by a locust, or play Soul Calibur without ever getting punched. It's not possible.

heaven forbid one should get punished for making mistakes. What are you expecting; not to receive any damage from anything?

Besides the grass in Forza 3 is far less OTT. You should be greatful the gravel in Forza 2-3 isnt that realistic, at most real life tracks you wouldnt be able to get more than a few feet without getting completely beached.

Which is why it is currently at a 94 on metacritic with IGN claiming it is the best racing simulation this generation? Nice try

They actually did change what happens when you drive on the grass...

[QUOTE="TheSystemLord1"]So because you don't have to stay on the track in Gran Turismo makes it a better game? Hell, why not just remove tracks entirely and just put in 15 different straight lines with different backgrounds. This is a videogame meant to be played online; who wants to adhere to a racing line for an entire race, showing their skill along the way, only to be beaten by some idiot who decides to drive through the grass/sand/rocks/ocean in order to cut 5-10 seconds off of his time? If that is the sort of thing Gran Turismo 5 let's you do, than count me out.PandaBear86

Seeing how GT5 doesn't come out till next year, we really don't know what the kind of penalty you get from going of track in the final game. About the physics engine, the Forza team are real good at making sure their game stays as realistic as they can. If you've ever driven a Ferrari you would know that it doesn't drive like a commercial car like a civic or something. A Ferrari is hard to control on the pavement for the average driver, on the grass you have hardly any control at all. So the physics in Forza are good.

The reviews so far seem to be praising this so-called "rubbish".

That is exactly what SHOULD happen. That's why the game is realistic. :|

You're saying it's not possible to play Forza without going off the track and driving on the grass or the gravel? :| Of course it is. Break properly and take the corners properly and you'll stay on the road. And once again, i have to say, it's ridiculous that you're saying this is unrealistic. That's exactly what the gravel/turf is there for. It slows you down and punishes you for cutting corners. Have you ever watched an F1 race? They slow way, way down when they go off the track. Again, that's what they put gravel there for.

[QUOTE="PAL360"]

wow man, this is too arrogant :?

what happens if Forza3 scores higher?

PandaBear86

Its not arrogant. I was just playing Forza 2 and got ticked off because I drove my Ferrari on the grass for 2 seconds and spun out of control like crazy. I won't be getting Forza 3 if its similar to this.

That's called real life physics. You drive onto grass with a Ferrari with high speed then you'll be sure to lose control over your car. It's like driving on ice with slick tires. Since the moment your first tire hits the grass, it will start spinning differently than the other 3, thus why it has a high chance of spinning you out of control. I have drove a car on slick surfaces for training purpose and it's scary as hell how easily and fast your car can start spinning, even at 30-40km/h.

If Forza 3 is trash, it's one of the best trash in the world according to people who have actually played the game.
