I wouldn't call that disk swapping. Just 2 different modes on each disk. For example while playing the GT mode disk you don't have to swap disks to race on a specific track.

Also, the game comes with 2 DVDs, that's almost 20 gigs. You would think the developer could implement the features they wanted with that huge amount of space.

wait, changing discs in a racing game...r u serious. cause if that's true...that's just a fail on ALL lemmings parts. If I ever see that confirmed, I'm gonna throw the "blu-ray is not needed" arguement in their faces so fast.
No it comes with two disk but you install the second one on the HDD, it is like DLC they came no where to filling the second one.
That's no better then the PS3's installs now...actually a little worse as PS3 usually just installs a few textures and what-not. Now they're starting to install tracks and content that wont fit on the first disc.
I would imagine GT 5 will have a pretty hefty install too though. given the size of the game(based off GT4's car list and tracks list)
At least they avoided disc swapping though. but now that means it's a game tat you can't simply pop in and play whenever(think 2 years down the line...). you need to worry about HDD space. And being limited to HDD sizes, that's a little anoying. Wonder how big the install is.
BTW thanx for clearing that up.

different physics engines on each disc isn't exactly disc swapping...but whatever you need to try to justify something that should be a thing of the past.

True, but people still complain about having 2 discs in a racing game.[QUOTE="Camer999"]

In other words, Blu-ray IS needed for Forza 3 LOL
[QUOTE="AdoringFan_"]
[QUOTE="Trmpt"] But GT5 wont have the feature that matters most,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,car damage.Camer999
GT5 has car damage. How about you watch the E3 09 video ;)
It is a concept video.... and I heard the damage would only be for Rally & nascar, correct me if I am wrong....
You may have heard that, but not from PD... they haven't said anything about it yet.
Seems not talking about the game is becoming a theme with PD these days :P
But the rumor about only some types of racing having damage comes from fanboy speculation and nothing more. It would be nice if PD would clarify the situation for us....

I wasn't that serious. I was joking on the fact that they needed a second disk because they couldn't fit everything on one disk.

NO they wouldn't, do you know how much of their fanbase would be isolated by doing that? lol. They said before that they could have done it with HD-DVD, but would not do it because not everyone would own the HD-DVD player.
As for damage modelling in GT5, last I heard not all cars will be able to be damaged. basically the lower end vehicle will and the nicer more exotic cars wont.

dvd's still outsell blu ray like crazy..its not even needed yet for the main purpose of its existence, movies..so saying games need it is ridiculous. There's maybe 3 games that have actually benefitted from blu ray, big deal :roll:Yes it would, all the data would fit on one disc.A HDD is required to play the additional content on the 2nd disk.... It would make no difference if the disk was BR.....

You can bet that GT5 will either not have an install or it will be very small. How many first party PS3 exclusives have had an install over 500MB?

They are shafted.[QUOTE="masiisam"]

They only get their money's worth, where as those with a hard drive get more for their money. You really think it will top gt5? No forza game has ever been as good as GT3. People always compare forza 1 and gt4 but gt4 was just a gt3 with a few other things leading to low reviews.Meh, even without said features, it'll still be better than the competition. Some rain would be nice, though.

Just for some who didn't know that this was confirmed for GT5...

Blu-ray is just a large storage format. When everyone say's blu-ray is needed it's to avoid having more then one disc or in this case installing 1/4 of the game on the HDD...if you even have one. Saying blu-ray is needed has nothing to do with any specific formats the disc may use, it's strictly for storage.
[QUOTE="foxhound_fox"]it has been shown Forza is the superior seriesSTRETCH-E
How?
Yes I would like an explanation as well.
Meh, not a big deal. Also pretty old news. They really aren't trying to compete with GT5, i hope people realize this.Adrian_Cloud

seems to me like they are
I'm a bit confused... If the 360 used Blu-ray, players would have access to all of the content even without a HDD. The second disc only serves as a data transfer to the HDD so the fist disc can access it content. I'm assuming the storage capacity on a BR disc would be enough for all the content.A HDD is required to play the additional content on the 2nd disk.... It would make no difference if the disk was BR.....

Another swing and a miss...90% of PS3/BR games require an install to the HDD.....All the data on one disk makes no difference....I will tag this for later use..
Do you think GT5 will require an install?
