This actually really annoys me. This is now literally half a game.

I would like to point out the competition here: Gran Turismo 6

Forza 5Gran Turismo 6
200 cars400 cars (completely ignoring standard POS cars)
14 tracks37 tracks (100 layouts of those tracks)

Compared to GT6, Forza 5 really does seem like a cash in. I understand this is going to next gen, but this is just more evidence of a rushed game.

This coupled with day 1 dlc, and season passes, it really feels that Microsoft is desperate to milk this as much as possible, and rush it out the door at the same time.

Some of my favorite tracks have been cut, however the new tracks should keep me occupied for a while. Hopefully they will give us a steady stream of new tracks via DLC.

And that's what I'm also scared of. It's already going to cost $50 more to get the car number up 60 more (up to 260, still pretty much half of GT6); how much will they charge for tracks too, when they already have 1/3 of the tracks of the competition?

I know lems will defend this to death, but please wake up and wait for Forza 6 lems. I really do not feel this game should be supported with sales.

I will smoke you in a standard car. Bring it

Yeah laser scanning is a big deal, too bad most of the people posting on this forum couldn't give 2 shits about that though.

@HadOne2Many: That's fine, but there is a considerable difference between a track being laser scanned and not being laser scanned.
whether or not someone wants to acknowledge that is up to them.

I play racing games because I want the experience and knowing that track has been accurately recreated to the millimeter means a lot to me.

I think all tracks new to GT5 were scanned unless I'm mistaken.

Other than random people pulling it out of their asses, I can't find anything on GT 5 tracks being laser scanned. And whenever it is brought up it get swatted down quickly so I don't think Polyphony scans their tracks.

And for people who don't know what it is to laser scan a track: according to the folks at iRacing it is a recreation that is accurate down to 1mm and takes a 10 man team up to 10 months to create one(1) track.

Oh, my apologies, am I thinking of laser scanned cars? It's probably the new cars to GT5 that were all laser scanned.

I can't tell entirely - but apparently Turn 10 uses other companies that scan the cars and then give their data to Turn 10 and Polyphony has a couple of methods as well (according to this forum)

Ah, that matches with what I seem to remember, standard cars were just modelled, but premiums were laser scanned.

Huge difference between the two (as anyone who has played GT can attest to)

SO(!) in summary:

  • Gran Turismo uses scanned cars for Premiums and modeled for Standard with modeled tracks
  • Forza 5 uses scanned cars and scanned tracks

Though I would imagine GT7 will be laser scanned everything as it will be on the PS4. At least I would hope so, though Polyphony might have to either spend a shit load of time creating the game or cut down their incredibly high numbers.

Cool video on how scanned cars are created

Don't get me wrong, it means a lot to me too and I think only using tracks that have been laser scanned is the best decision. I just think this is sadly lost on most others here.

Well, in this case only reason there is a huge difference, is because those standard cars are old models. Heck, I hate modelling cars, but I could probably still produce better models than the standard cars in GT5 in a short space of time.

And for how important graphics are in this forum, it amazes me that aspects such as how a games graphics were created goes unnoticed and unappreciated.

I appreciate it takes time to make... but why not just delay the game slightly? Laser scanned or not, 14 tracks is not enough to keep most gamers occupied long enough (with only 14, I personally would struggle to stay interested long enough to finish the single player).

Or why not just hire more people to laser scan? They are rolling in money, and often outsource; they could have easily outsourced enough people to laser scan 20 tracks, and keep in the original tracks while at it.

What gets me is that they will just add stupidly expensive dlc as an attempt to make up for it; I feel they should be part of the game in the first place.

I would think it would go back to a return on investment type approach and outsourcing everything would cost a lot of money, while Microsoft is loaded to hell and back they got that way by not spending a lot of money when they didn't have to.

If it takes iRacing up to 10 months to recreate a laser scanned track I would imagine it would take at least 10 months to create the 43 mile long (70 km) Nurburgring.

____

Initially is only 14 tracks a little underwhelming? Initially is 200 cars a little underwhelming?
Yes it is. There isn't much getting around that those numbers are lower than what we are accustomed to.

But I am a fan of quality and an accurate track down to 1mm to drive on with cars where more attention was paid to how it handles and how the tires react to the surface when at temperature and when not at temperature than how many pixels can be added to it means a helluva lot more to me that just getting another version of the same game but this time with better graphics.

And I fully expect Gran Turismo 7 to offer the exact same when it launches for the PS4

This isn't a problem. There is plenty of bang for the buck in Forza 5. Have you heard the engine sounds? The F1's are sick!!!!

I guess our priorities in such a game are a bit different then, and that's fair enough.

You would rather have consistent, incredibly accurate tracks.

I would rather have more not as accurate, but still decent tracks; or even a mix of laser scanned tracks and standard tracks how they were (let's face it, they weren't exactly poor, real life times on certain tracks were within a second or 2 of counterpart car and track in both Forza and GT.

The 200 cars I have got over now, I'm not as worried about that being underwhelming, it's just the tracks.

If you can see past that there are only 14 at launch with promise that these will be the most accurate representations of said tracks; then I guess more power to you, sir.

I personally will wait for Forza 6 and hope there is back to a good amount of tracks :)

Bathurst from Australia, and Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps from Belgium? Top notch awesome.

But, they're dropped the Nürburgring. I understand why they've done it. Greenawalt only wants to include tracks which make the grade.

It can still be a good game, especially with Bathurst.

It may have already been posted here, but there is an article in EVO Magazine that says the Nürburgring will be playable in January. There a thread about it over at FMNet.

EDIT: here's the quote from the magazine

"...Connect the Xbox One to the internet and you'll also be able to get all the very latest content - further new tracks and new cars - as soon as it's available. And in January, that will include arguably the most challenging circuit on the planet - the Nurburgring Nordschleife. Well known to evo readers, the Ring has become the ultimate performance benchmark, a lap time the supreme arbiter of a supercar's talents. From January, you'll be able to compare your times with the test drivers from McLaren, Pagani and all the others..."

What damage control?

There's 1 or 2 hardcore lems who pop in just to try and defend the game once, and then leave. Aside from that it's mostly a discussion. Get outta here if you're not gonna contribute something useful.

Very embarrassing considering GT6 has 1200 cars (400 of which are premium) and 37 tracks all for $60. Turn 10 should be ashamed of milking their fans like this. And they wonder why GT series continues to dominate them in sales.

Based on T10's history it will cost us. They charged us for Motegi, Road America & the Nordschleife. I think the only free tracks were the proving grounds.

So now we've had a chance to sleep on this and the initial shock has worn off, has anyone had a change of heart about the severity of the situation?

I'm still a bit miffed myself, but not grab the pitchforks and cancel pre-order upset.

I'm sticking with Forza 4 and Horizon for now. 2 fantastic games. I'm not sure what this "next gen" game, with it's less content and underwhelming visuals, could offer me?

Forza 5 will be a great game, but its obvious Turn 10 needed another six months or so to do what they have always done with is launch with many more cars and tracks. 200 cars and 14 tracks doesn't equal what they are known for numbers wise, even if the quality is there. Of the latter I have no doubt. I honestly hope there's a free track pack at some point to make up for this. But I'm still gonna buy the game. Will pass on that season pass though.

Pretty anemic selection of cars and tracks when you consider GT6 is doing 1200 cars (400 premium) and 37 tracks. Turn 10 is probably wondering why GT series continues to destroy them in sales, this is one of the reasons.

This game looks god awful for a next gen game. Got to see it in action today as I was at Walmart. The jaggies are horrible. After seeing it in person, I am confused what lems are so happy about with this game. It sure as hell can't be the graphics, so what is it?

Huh, I didn't realize Walmart had Xbox One demo stations already. I guess I'll need to stop at one on the way home tonight. I've been hearing too many conflicting reports about the graphics and would like to see for myself.

As for your question about why people are excited...if you are really serious asking that, then the game probably wasn't made for you. No big deal if racing isn't your thing. I don't care for JRPGs, so when the next big Final Fantasy game is getting hyped (or whatever the best new game of that type) I don't see what the fuss is about. All the improvements and changes from the previous game would be lost on me. Doesn't mean there's nothing there to get excited about.

In the case of Forza 5 (ignoring graphics for the moment) we have a few really notable things for racing fans to get excited about. Open wheel racing. Laser scanned tracks. The new AI (which the early previews are saying actually works). More Top Gear content. All of this from a world class developer on a next gen console.

So now we've had a chance to sleep on this and the initial shock has worn off, has anyone had a change of heart about the severity of the situation?

I'm still a bit miffed myself, but not grab the pitchforks and cancel pre-order upset.

I still feel same as I did really - I won't support Forza 5 with my money, as it just does not seem a complete game, but instead will patiently await the much improved Forza 6.

This game is going to bomb hard. It is a complete step back for the series in every way. 300 less cars and 12 less tracks. Less features (no more auction house or storefront). No new features at all. The graphics don't even impress.

Not even the most loyal lemmings can defend this and actually believe the shit they say.

Maybe there will be an "Ultimate Edition" like there was for FM2 and FM3.

They said they were setting the PS4 display up later today. It isn't that the game isn't for me, it's that I just didn't see anything impressive to make it stick out. I have seen better racing games I guess is what I am trying to say. Looks like a rushed game to me. Did it look better than 360? Yes, but some parts didn't look too much better and I figured this gen that jaggies would be pretty much a thing of the past, but clearly I am wrong.

Like you said, you will have to see for yourself.

Lol, no Forza has bombed and this one certainly won't. For all the chatter you made about DC that game was completely delayed. Look its disappointing that Forza isn't shipping with the usual number of Forza tracks and cars, but I would rather them ship with what they feel is their A game stuff than a bunch of half assed stuff like GT series does. Turn 10 is getting rave previews thus far and will do fine review wise. They said they didn't want to ship cars and tracks that weren't rescanned and perfect. They have a track record worth giving the benefit of the doubt too.

Poor guys, i bet they were forced to work overtimes to deliever a Forza game on the Xbox One on day 1 and the result will be less than stellar, it sucks if that was the case.

They should rename this game to "Debole".
