Forza franchise director Dan Greenawalt has delivered his verdict on Sony's Gran Turismo series, saying Polyphony Digital CEO and franchise creator Kazunori Yamauchi "hasn't done anything for me for years". ''That said, as a fan of the series, he hasn?t done anything for me in years. So in many ways he?s handing the baton to me. He probably doesn?t see it that way, but I do, because I believe that I?m now taking what he ignited in me as a passion, and taking it to a much, much, much broader level. I?m not saying it?s necessarily larger yet, but definitely broader, younger, older, men, women. So I?m really excited.' http://www.videogamer.com/news/yamauchi_hasnt_done_anything_for_me_in_years.html

What a concept. Outside of System Wars, the competitors can be fans of each others' work as well. Who woulda thought! I do get what he's saying about the GT series not doing anything, I'm sure most around here feel that way. GT5 Prologue is nice, but I would've preferred less (or no) updates and getting GT5 out already. A new franchise is going to birth it's third game in the series before GT get's it's sequel out.

Why are the Froza devs acting mad cocky and arrogant? I'm thinking about not even picking up their title now. I hate people that act liek this and I do not wish to support a company full of cocky ****

And that's why "whoever that Turn 10 guy is" outperformed the GT series with his last two iterations?

It's honesty. What he says is true. GT hasn't been on top since GT3. The overall review average indicates that. Maybe tough love is just what Polyphony needs. Everyone needs to stop kissing their feet, because they haven't done anything worth a damn for a very long time.

Expect every thread bashing GT to be resurrected lol. Honestly though, the Forza devs should just keep quiet until we actually have both Forza and GT on retail shelves.

Maybe to you, but plenty of people enjoy their games even though there has been a drought in GT games over the pass couple of years. I don't kiss any companies feet. My money is my main worry. I can careless about a company, BUT I hate cocky people whether talented or not. They have been acting like this ever since E3 and it's kind of pathetic. I personally think it's insecurity. If they believe in their product so much all they have to do is remain quiet and let the product do all the talking...

Not in the least. The geniuses at Turn 10 allow you to choose your level of difficulty... from arcade racer to full sim. GT falls somewhere around where PGR is and doesn't allow any customization of difficulty.

Turn 10 has delivered three full racing sims before Polyphony could even release the next major title in the series. If anyone's feet need to be kissed, its Turn 10's. They've given the public three very high-quality racing sims in less time than it takes Polyphony to pump out even a full game.

its all about hype. Forza 3 is out soon, this is just part of the process, the hype train. cant you see, everyone is talking about Forza. whether they mean what they say or not, one thing for sure is that, with all these arrogant statements they are making, they are generating buzz for their game.

Well, that's up for debate, but GT has a fanbase and sales figures that Turn 10 can only dream of. Prologue has sold what, 3, 4 million? For what is basically a cut-down version of GT, and on a console that's in dead last sales-wise, that just goes to show you the power of the Gran Turismo franchise.

Yes, and as we all know, sales are the #1 indicator of quality. Good to know the Wii is now (by far at that) the best console out there.

50 Cent has sales and fans, too. I look at the reviews between the latest installments. Forza has topped GT twice. GT3 was the last time they were on top critically. I don't care if the masses eat up their crap.

Comparing GT to 50 cent? :lol wow. So because Forza outscored GT4 that automatically makes GT crap? I guess that means every single game ever made except OoT is complete ****.

How do you compare music to games? I was using popularity as the example, which isn't the deciding factor for what is exactly superior.Forza is that and it did better critically for a reason.

Actually your really biased, so shush. I have both, GT5P and forza, and they are both pretty similar on the Sim/arcade scale. Before the update on gt5P is was alot more twitchy/easy to spin out, But I think that was a change in controller inputs, not physics. Granted, IMO, forza has more in depth physics. which is important becouse neither game is real sim. They are both dumbed a little.

Very selective quoting, OP. You missed that part about Greenawalt being a huge fan and having tremendous respect for KY. Also, as a frustrated GT fan I have to agree with Greenawalt on alot of what he says.

Either way, another poster was correct, this looks to be building the hype train. Every forum is exploding with Forza news. Even CNet has a poll with fanboys going nuts. Whether or not this tactic equals additional sales we probably won't ever know, but one thing is for sure. Everyone is talking about Forza.

I almost agree. While there is definitely an edge to his comments, it's rather reserved and isn't anywhere near the level of someone like David Jaffe, Itagaki, or Cliffy B. (all of whom people around here love).

He even states that their work inspired his own and tempers people from taking his comments as stating that Turn 10's work is grander than that of PD's.

There certainly seems to be an edge, though.

Play with full sim modifiers on Hard difficulty and try and pull your GT bumper car tactics.

GT does not even come close to replicating what real driving is like.

It is actually possible for something to be popular AND good. People always pull out the "if it's mainstream it must be crap" card, and on this board, 99% of the time people mention 50 cent. You might not like him, but millions of others do, just like millions of people like GT. Hell, The Beatles don't do anything for me, but I don't label them **** because they're so popular. Yeah, Forza might have scored more than GT4 but that doesn't mean GT4 was "crap". Unless we're going down the route of only AAA games are worth playing.

Since when has Polyphony Digital announced a release date for GT5? :?

They havent' set the date, but its probably coming out next year, near the date of Forza 3. That's my prediction, so dont yell at me :D

Next year would be long after Forza 3's October release date. And...I didn't "yell" at you...that would be a bit hard to do via a text editor...

talking about the driving mechanics..........forza was made for anyone to handle......gt takes skill....like real 200km/h driving does.....they dont even compare....

I'm now convinced that GT fans live in a parallel reality. One where outside of games, in that physical world, cars actually do bounce off walls and other cars with no body damage or any performance impairment what so ever. So when they see collisions in Forza, and the consequences incurred, they immediately cry out; "but that's not the way things really happens in driving! GT is way more realistic than that!!!"

This can be the only explanation for such erroneous observations and comments. Like Sherlock Holmes said; "When you have eliminated all other possibilities, what ever remains, how ever improbable, must be the solution"

he's right though in the time it's between gt4 and gt5 all 3 forza games have been released that's just pathetichy4k

It's called quality>quantity. Granted GT5 is taking a long time to make, but every day that goes by GT5 can only get better until it is released and when that day happens you can expect to see me here. Drinking an ice cold beer while watching Forza fanboys get enraged as GT5 annihilates it score wise. That gonna be a very fun day indeed:)

Yep, it's clear you've never played Forza, either that, or you had the damage set to "cosmetic". Protip: Next time you're playing, crank the damage up to "simulation" and see what happens.

Oh, and some damage is better than none at all.
