VG chart: "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 broke all first week records to become the fastest-selling game of all time this week. With 8.14 million units sold on Xbox 360 and PS3, and over 8.6 million when including the PC release,"

soure: VGchart http://news.vgchartz.com/news.php?id=5919

so MW2 only sells 500k to 1Mcopies on pc in the first week, sigh that's pathetic...it looks like PC FPS games (free online) are dying...

good pc is better than console, but how many people have a good PC?

For online games, it's all about how many population it has. the more the better, the less the worse.

I like keyboard and mouse combo on FPS, but PC FPS community is shrinking, which is a bad sign for PC industry and gamers.

If game companies dont make profit, they wouldnt make new games or theywould change business model from free online play to monthly fee base.

That's why the next COD may start to charge monthly fee on PC, and crysis 2 are going to on console version.

yes, it is dying. even though the PC community has clearly expressed much outrage over the shenanigans they are pulling with IW.net and all that other ****

we have real games that have things pc gamers enjoy we don't need a console port that robs us of all things standard.

Furthermore, our community is doing nothing but growing. the MW community in particular has gotten BIGGER sence mw2 launched, games like TF2 and CS still have massive communitys and L4D2 is full, quite literally, with people. It is hard to even join a dedicated server at times because there just arent any left

Hmm. Does the TC even know why the PC game is tanking harder than before??? I can hear it now though. IW will say teh piracy made it do bad when it was themselves that did it.

lol, so most PC gamers didn't bought an overrated rehash (I doubt the number is more than 500K) --- I don't see the problem here.

oajlu

IW are only considering fees because they think their majority audience (console users according to you) is gullible enough to pay for them, it has nothing to do with PC gaming. As for cross platform development, this has been explained so many times you would think people would get it by now. I suppose console gaming is dieing is it? Because more console games are cross platform than PC games, that's your rational not mine.

good pc is better than console, but how many people have a good PC?

oajlu

Great, someone else who thinks they in their ultimate knowledge know what PC gamers are running in their systems better than they do...

A. MW2 isnt a popular game with pc gamers

B. that doesnt include DD

C. sales of other FPSs like STALKER (with no hype) prove this wrong.

I don't know but I am very happy with Modern Warfare one... no need to pay a bucket load of money for a downgrade of multiplayer experience, especially with so many good games coming to the PC on the market these days.

Remember when Valve confirmed that PC version of Orange Box sold significantly more than the console versions? Console kiddies cried about how they had the inferior version. Gee I wonder why ****ty console ports aren't selling well on the PC...

Im sorry, other than MMO's population of agame does not mean ANYTHING for the further product and online play. 10 million Halo 3 and MW2 players yet theyre milked with small crappy map packs every now and then.

It would be very interesting to see a sales comparison of the PC and 360 versions of L4D2.

PC FPS are superior to consoles. Modern Warfare 2 does not have any more substantive system requirements than Call of Duty 4.....but according to YOUR source, it sold half compared to COD4. It also seems like World at War sold more than Modern Warfare 2. I'd attribute the problem to the ones we've endlessly gone over on these forums. We stand opposed to the idea of using console-style matchmaking with P2P networking, which results in inferior performance, connection issues, a complete lack of information or control at our disposal, no customization, no permanence, incredibly long potential matchmaking timers and potential black hole games where the matchmaking algorithm links us with some idiot thousands of miles away in a foreign country with less than 1 meg upstream. We're also upset because there's no custom content support on MW2 and no mod tools. They even tried to lock us out of the developer console. Now my GUESS, TC, is that you didn't understand a word of what I just said. The point being don't make topics on issues you don't understand, theorizing on issues you don't even know anything about. All of the stuff I listed in the previous paragraph is exclusive to MW2.....which explains its exclusively bad sales performance and why the rest of the industry, particularly vibrant communities in games released years ago like Counter Strike Source and Unreal Tournament 2k4 indicate that PC gamers are some of the most loyal and devoted consumers on the market, only refusing to purchase MW2 because it sucks, just like every FPS on consoles, relative to PC FPS, anyway.

A more appropriate comparison would be between online communities. I can give you the online numbers to Steam and you can compare them to the number playing L4D2 on Xbox Live. Reason I suggest that is because NPD does not track digital distribution sales, and seeing as L4D2 has been a highly advertised Steam game, I figure half or more of the sales are probably digitally distributed.

Actually, roughly 1/7 the number of players are playing TF2 versus MW2.

I agree about the DD part, especially since this is a Valve game. I have L4D2 and my 360 right in front of me, I wonder where they list the number of players? I've seen the listing in Halo 3, does L4D have the same thing?

The reason it tanked is beacause its a bad PC game, it was made for consoles and doesnt stand up to other fps's the PC has to offer right now, i would rather play tf2, CSS, or L4d2 then that consolized garbage of a pc game, and it looks like most pc gamers agree.

Honestly I doubt those figures are accurate, for one it's vgcharts, and two PC sales are near impossible to track unless the numbers came from dev/pub themself.

But if true then good, the online component simply isn't up to PC standards so it should show in sales.

However, when even games like Stalker can sell 2m I'm pretty sure MW2 will do twice that as it's much bigger game, even on PC.

lol its good thing really. the pc community expressed how it did not like what IW did with the game and they boycotted the game and it seems it was failry successful (although 1 mil copies sold is still a lot) so i dont think its asign of pc gaming dying you silly. you get a boop on your nose

VG chart: "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 broke all first week records to become the fastest-selling game of all time this week. With 8.14 million units sold on Xbox 360 and PS3, and over 8.6 million when including the PC release,"

soure: VGchart http://news.vgchartz.com/news.php?id=5919

so MW2 only sells 500k to 1Mcopies on pc in the first week, sigh that's pathetic...it looks like PC FPS games (free online) are dying...

oajlu

I don't even think that MW 2 sales on PC reached the 500.000 units, and honestly the PC version doesn't deserves so high sales, IMO. Is hard to sell when the main appeal is the multiplayer and in this field is clearly worse game than COD 4, BF2, CSS or even COD 2.

Assuming the info is correct, am I the only one seeing this as good news? Activision and IW completely stepped on PC gamers with MW2. I mean, when people can infect other PCs with Trojans over the online multiplayer component you know you've failed at releasing a respectable game on the PC platform. The sales reflect this.

Pretty sure 500k in a week for a PC game is pretty good. It's selling faster than...probably every other PC game besides WoW and Sims 3.

I wont disagree there, Clear Sky was very disappointing. Though from what has been said CoP is supposed to be damn good - the Russian version has been out for a short while. Otherwise, I see what you did there :P
