Do you prefer the open world gameplay of the battlefield series or the tight quartered and smaller size maps of Call of Duty? How can developers improve the shooter genre so that there is more variety and an emphasis on teamwork?

I know this is a multi-tiered question but I was just curious. Personally, I like both but I think the teamwork aspect of the battlefield series can be alot more fun, depending on the situation and who you play with.

As for improving the genre, many complain today that the genre has gotten stale, old and everything is generic. So if you feel that way, how can it be improved? Personally I think a greater emphasis on teamwork and a larger variety of objectives and missions (like Titan Mode in bf2142) is the key to moving this genre along.

I don't really have a preference. I can enjoy Battlefield 2's 32v32 and then turn around and go play 4v4 on Halo. Your suggestion would only work in games with large player counts, and those already have a system like that in place.

I like both. However, i do like CoD's smal mapsize better. BF's is just to big, and takes forever to get around, if you dont have a vehicle.

why do you need large player counts to have emphasis on teamwork?

well, it'd be great if they tried some new things. i prefer non-linear gameplay with a good amount of freedom, but not too much. its best to just stick with a max of 32 players, and to have squads of 4. i like it when the games have classes, though it's not needed. i prefer objective games, and they should be the focus of the multiplayer. spawning should be by specific team spawn points. health regen should be limited(with health packs), and no aim assist. weighted feel with guns is good, but smaller ones should be lighter. finally, each gun should have their strengths and weaknesses, so no gun is overpowered.

adding magic and skills to it. As well as giving characters superpowers like those seen in Prototype, inFamous and Final Fantasy VII:Advent Children
