FPS WARS: The Best Shooter Released This Generation Is...?

Considering that first person shooters seem to be all the rage these days, and the fact that we've had several exceedinglly good ones since this generation first began, I was wondering which FPS System Wars finds to be the best.

Choose your favourite from the poll, and be sure to specify just why you found it so good.

My favourite, incidentally, is Halo 3. A thrilling single player campaign, addictive multiplayer, and lasting appeal numbered by hundreds of hours, great graphics, a boding soundtrack, wonderful story and great story presentation elevate it to a level beyond all the other games listed here.

Of course, I'm sure that when Halo: Reach is released, Halo 3 will promptly be dethroned :)

Killzone 2, Halo3 and BF:BC2 don't really belong on this poll. I would remove them and add Crysis, The Orange Box and Bioshock. They were all better.

Team Fortress 2, hands down, no question.

It's easier to play than Call of Duty and yet has the depth to keep "hardcore" players into it.

Bad company 2. Best online shooter in my opinion.

Bad Company 2 was good for the first month, but it gets old. but that would've been my 2nd pick.

right now, I'm playing nothing but Shadowrun. most people don't know of it.

TF2 for MP and Crysis for Sp.

Stalker - all three of them, actually. The perfect mix of realism and "gameness". Fantastic sandbox environment. The art and sound design are gorgeous, and the graphics using DX10/11 are among the best. A true AI ecosystem, plus excellent human AI. Very solid combat, and very cool RPG and survival elements. Also some of the scariest games ever.

In Call of Pripyat, I was planning my whole in-game day - wake up at 6 a.m., do whatever I had to do, make sure to get back to a safe location before darkness falls. Because when the night comes, the horrible monsters wake up.

Huge bonus: the modding community.

I actually like all those in the list :)

along Arma2, Metro2033, Counter Strike, The Darkness, COD4, COD:WAW,L4D, TF2,Resistance games, Crysis & others :)

I'll be in the minority here, but my favorite pure shooters this gen would be between Resistance and Resistance 2 for single player, and Resistance 2 and Warhawk for multiplayer.

Crysis so far. I find most of them quite lame however, since MP sucks.

half life 2 for me, its not a regular fps, its not about shooting some bad dude whos trying to end the universe or the world, its about the interaction between an emotionless mute between the characters of the world an an engaging story, and they do an expert job at ending the portions of half life 2 on a note that makes you want to keep on playing, wanna know why everyone is waiting for episode 3? play episode 2 and youll find out

As opposed to what shooter? Almost all the FPS today have an awful story. Haven't played one with good story

As opposed to what shooter? Again like top, if the story is bad then the characters "usually" will be bad too.

Please give me examples of said "shooter" Alot, like CoD4. Even with the suit powers, it was boring as hell.

I'll say Bad Company 2, because despite in some ways being a bit of a bummer, I've had a lot of fun with it. DICE has still got it in that regard.

Feel like I haven't really played enough of them to form a final opinion. Call of Pripyat I haven't played at all, for instance.

Horrible list. None of those shooters are the best, all of those shooters fall back on established titles and genre tropes done well before. Jeesh what happened to some shooters that are actually outside the mold.skrat_01
