Wow when it comes to PC Rockstar is the embodiment of the saying "better late than never"

But yeah I seriously can't complain. I had totally forgotten about the upgrade for console users, which by the way wasn't free.

  • GTA V free next gen upgrade is based on the PS5/Xbox release
  • Ray tracing support
  • FSR / DLSS 3 support
  • Faster load times
  • Higher refresh rates or whatever
  • More
  • better

People can also choose to stay on the old version, which will keep being supported.

@lamprey263: yeah right after posting I realised this will break the fantstic next gen mods.

Hmmm, I guess modders will have to update so we can get the best of both worlds.

I mean this is bringing a lot of QOL features like DLSS and Dualsense support.

Cool, I'll check it out as I haven't replay GTAV in a long time. RT is all I really care about.

@davillain: yeah the RT looked nice on consoles. Hope this brings HDR too.

I also plan on replaying this with the new update.

@R4gn4r0k: Been spending the time playing RDR2, it'll be nice to play something that's in the precent time period.

@davillain: are you using updated dlss file and the transformer model in RDR?

Yeah I'm a sucker for these open world type games set in contemporary time periods. I really want to replay the original Watch Dogs as well.

Got the game for free a couple years ago. I've never felt like playing it. Still don't.

@Litchie: there are two vastly different ways of playing.

One is the singleplayer which is highly cinematic so I don't think it's the right fit for you.

The other is online and I spent hundreds of hours just Dicking around with friends: breaking into high level facilities, stealing planes.

I've no idea what state the online is now. But I'm pretty sure this game can offer you a few hours of fun, now while looking even better.

Also it's Rockstar giving something for free, quite a unicum.

@R4gn4r0k: A what? That sounds zwack.

I got GTAV for free too, so a free update on a free game is not bad.

Imagine winning a free PC. You'd be able to play the free upgrade for the free game on your free PC.

And you don't even have to pay for online!!!!!

@R4gn4r0k: Maybe if they make it so you don't need that like with Steam Deck, anyway I'll see how my kids do with that the next time they have a PC game problem!

I quickly looked up Gorilla Tag but don't see the fix for everything running at like 50% speed including chat audio

yeah it's a full suite of RT effects:

Besides ray-traced reflections and shadows being added from the next-gen console versions ofGTA V, other ray-traced features coming exclusively to PC include RTAO (ambient occlusion) and RTGI (global illumination)

Looking forward to this!

I tried the Series X version and while the Ray Tracing was nice, I just can't play a game like this at 30fps. Now this isn't just a 30fps - 60fps - 120fps rant, I play retro consoles and games, many of which have 30fps titles, but this game just felt horrible at 30.

@Bond007uk: yeah numerous outlets have claimed this. But the slow movement of the RAGE engine along with 30fps feels awful.

Can't wait to try this tomorrow!

@R4gn4r0k: I'm playing GTAV Enhanced edition and replaying from scratch has been underwhelming. The game's performance scaling is terrible, with an RTX 4070/Ryzen 7: 9800X3D as I'm seeing dips below what should be a locked 120hz (reflex on+boost) given the GPU is barely being used above 80%, even with all the goodies cranked up. There are also stutters that occasionally happen. Game is being stored on a NVME drive as well. And while not a performance thing, the amount of bloom is insane.

All in all, it seems like a disappointment installment despite it's a nice free update, GTAV for the most part I've already played 2 times and going on my 3rd play is a struggle since GTAV itself is 2 gens old I've been there, done that. I'll still play start/finish if I'm not being distracted.

Edit: Now that I think about it. I might have to try a few settings in Nvidia app once I return home tonight.

@davillain: lemme know if the Nvidia settings help because I was thinking of also playing it.

Good tip: don't focus on the story missions, the main fun is all the hidden missions:

https://gamerant.com/hidden-gta-v-side-quests/

Finally about the game's optimization: I've played it in the past with the FSR mod and it's clear to me the game is CPU bound. So with these ray tracing effects it'll be even more cpu bound. Even the 9800x3d (and it is devine, like the Gods themselves constructed it) will be limited if the devs didn't properly optimize.

120fps lock and no hdr. One has to wonder how much effort R* really put in, and if they're gonna patch it further.

Thanks for the write up mate ;)

I've only played for less than an hour so far. I'm pretty sure it's running fine. However, I'm only running at 60fps as at the time I prioritised 4K DLSS performance mode. I cranked up the RT to full as well.

That being said, I do have a RTX 4070Ti Super.
