Free-to-play DC Universe attracts 1 million new players

Lorin Jameson, executive director of development at SOE Austin, said the new players were split 50/50 across the PC and PS3 versions.

"DC Universe Online's transition to free-to-play has been welcomed by the community and gamers with heroic enthusiasm," he said.

"Our business model philosophy of Free to Play Your Way makes DCUO accessible to every type of player so they can choose to play the game in a way that suits them best. We have a lot of exciting things coming up for players to enjoy in the game and are thrilled at the initial enthusiasm for the game's free-to-play transition."

Jameson said in September that Sony was altering DC Universe's business model because the cost of the game exceeded the company's original forecas

How long will it take till the the old republic is f2p?

Dunno but I want it to be F2P too. I loved Kotor but I swore to myself I will never ever pay an online subscription.

But we don't know if EA wants that business model. It all depends on how many ppl are willing to pay for the game and the subscription model.

I'm one of them, on the ps3. They really need new servers because it really sucks when I have to wait 5 10 or even 20 mins to get inside the game

fun little game when it is up though.

Nice, deserves it. Been playing the PC version and I am loving it alot, even through it was kinda a pain to actually get into in-game at first, but that issue hasn't been much of a deal now. Will get a station card so I can go up to premium.:)

I hadnt played this game in 2 months and i got on it the other day to activate a free pass and I never seen it so busy! places use to have maybe a couple people in one spot now have crowds!! its kinda of jammed up now but its so much easier to be social and group up now...great game i might go back to paying if I knew what perks that gave me?

Too bad I'm not one of those 1 million new players because it would take a week (without turning it off) for my Playstation+my internet to download 14 Gig.

I tried to play DC Universe Online, and I couldn't even get in, after about 15 f***ing gigabytes, updates, character creation etc.

Hours wasted, interest lost.
