As much as i dislike doing this, i'll have to exclude PC from this thread.

10 years is such as short period of time and looking at how far games have evolved graphically each decade is outstanding to me.

2010 - With GOW just being the start, its really scary thinking how games will look like towards the end of the decade. I also think we're now at that point where no matter how many years we look back games (such as U2 and GOW3) will never look bad.

2019?

I hope that we may come close to something like this by the end of the generation. Anyway what do you guys think? Do you think this is feasable? We'll definately have a new set of consoles during that time period and could potentially have a late next next gen release (1990-1999 saw the release of 3 generations).

Give your estimation of where you think we'll be graphically at the end of this decade. Use CGI for reference.

EDIT: Off topic but do we STILL have to give 56k warnings in 2010? I ask because i've recently noticed image threads without the warning.

So if the world doesnt end in 2012, lol I estimate that by the end of the next decade games will be looking like the CGI cutscenes in games today, at least.

i think crysis would be a better demonstration of the decade 2009 since it's far more superior than uncharted in graphic

I think we'll be seeing things more advanced than Monsters Inc, but it's going to come down to graphics engines, I actually think that the more complex graphics get the easier it'll be to make games. Everything will be down to premade/procedurally made models, because otherwise games will simply take too long to make. Imagine if every game was taking 5 years to make, you'd have so many companies becoming bankrupt, it'd be an impossible market to work in. There'll be some tech that comes along that makes life easier for game developers, the same way you have those huge random battle creating mechanisms in films like Lord of the Rings.

EDIT:And as for 56k, I was interested in that too so I made this topic: http://uk.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=27155293. Seems like 56k is pretty obsolete.

Theres a problem with that theory, and that in the olden days, game cycles were every 4 years, now the cycles are every 10 years (apparently) so the graphics upgrades will be less significant. And also since PC gaming has declined huge over the past decade, graphics makers haven't been updating the hardware as aggressively, which means that consoles don't get to benefit from those advancements as much (or as cheaply) anymore. We'll probably start to see more physics intensive games in the future.

When I think back it truly is wild just how far graphics have come. I wouldve never dreamed of games like Crysis back in the day playing the NES.

Your 2019 picture looks hardly any better than current gen Ratchet and Clank games.

lol wut? You'd better go tell ATI and Nvidia about this. I don't think they know.

Geforce 285 was out january of 2009, a solid year ago. It's a year later, wheres the 300 series cards? They used to release just shy of a year each cycle. Now its over a year turnaround and the improvements a less from 100 series to 200 series than in previous generations. I would call that less aggressively.

2019 and we get Monsters Inc. thats not amazing is more like 2014/15... Pump some details on Ratchet and shave some jags on Clank and were already half way there.
