It hurts me to post this. I pretty much hate Sony, and I hate the PS3.

However, we Wii owners need a running mate in it for the long haul, a Vice-President, if you will.

According to the data I'm getting now, it's not Microsoft.

Let me just say that I own a 360 and a Wii. Both are fantastic consoles. I have never played a PS3, but I just hate them. I love MGS and FFXII, but hate Sony and their expensive DVD player.

According to(don't stop reading)VGChartz, a flawed site, but one that isn't totally ignorant of overall sales data, and a site that DOES correct its date for official reports(see latest Japanese figures famitsu correction, this is happening:

This is inevitably due to the fact that the PS3 is now outpacing the 360 in sales in 2 of the 3 major regions: Others and Japan.

Note: I highly doubt the PS3 will actually pass the 360 anytime soon, but in this business momentum is everything, and foreigners just don't trust the 360 after the RRoD incidents.

Not to mention the previous gamespot story of how the 360 actually lost ground in hardware sales this year, which it should not have. Hardware is supposed to increase all the way to year 3, where it usually reaches its peak. This indicates that the 360 may have peaked early. Especially when you consider the fact that Halo 3 was released this year, yet it still lost ground.

Next, we have the Blu-Ray format war being won by Sony. Now people will be less reluctant to buy a Blue-ray player, and more reluctant to buy a HD-DVD drive. One of the main reasons, I believe, that the new SKU for the 360 was not announced and we didn't get a "big announcment" from Gates at the show.

Another supposed nail in the 360's coffin is its 2008 lineup, which is decidedly unspectacular compared to the 07 lineup on all fronts. Both Nintendo and Sony(more in a sec) have far superior lineups on paper, this year, than last, with multiple games in "system seller" status, such as:

Mario Kart Wii

SSB:Brawl

Metal Gear Solid 4

Wii Fit

Final Fantasy XIII(possibly 2keight)

Gran Turismo

We've all seen the poll on this very forum with the vast majority of people here claiming they will buy MGS4 on launch day. This game will spike sales. If sony is smart(they are not, they are dumb as a brick) they would give a small, price drop, just for show, maybe 30 bucks, and give people a reason to pick one up. However, this will inevitably lead to many MGS fans buying a PS3 eventually, as this is a system seller with legs to go along with it.

While there are a couple of good 360 games on the horizon, I admit, but many, like Halo Wars seem to be riding a franchise title, and the more interesting titles, like Alan Wake, well undoubtedly be overlooked for franchisers like Fable 2. None of the names, sans Halo Wars, are system sellers, however I do believe any title with a relation to Halo will be egerly consumed.

Speaking of Halo, Halo 4, the next killer app for the system, is year away. Halo 3's online features are far less significant than its predecessor, and have already been eclipsed by the multiplay CoD4, and Halo 3's sales were tremendous, however the legs on the product are practically non-existant. New Halo 3 gamers are buying used copies. Halo 3 is in a flat stalemate of sales at this point, which is basically saturation. SMG looks to be catching up with Halo 3 in the months to come.

This is not even to speak of the disgruntled 360 fans who bought bricked systems, who feel milked due to the porting of all their games to PC, with the downloadable content they paid extra for, or the lawsuits. Milking seem to be common Microsoft practice, considering the extra hundreds of dollars it costs to attain the parts the system should have came with, imo.

All in all, the 360 is a wildly popular system and it will lead in the US until at least July, and stay in second worldwide for quite a few years too come.

However, the momentum in the air isn't something a biased hater of both Sony and Microsoft can ignore. All the facts point to the likelyhood that in the next 3 years the PS3 will overtake the 360, thanks to the Others and Japanese markets(though i doubt we'll ever see an overtaking of software sales from the 360).

I'll keep my 360, I enjoy playing it in between my Wii gaming sessions, and my PC WoW epic adventures. However, I want to strongly urge the Sheep community to re-analize the picture, and pick the right runningmate. One that will be there for our inevitable victory lap.

Unfortunately, as far as I can deduce, that might just be the Playstation 3, which is admittedly, the first sturdy/decent piece of actual hardware Sony has designed, Sony, a company who hates its consumers even more than Microsoft and that designs its units to not only fail after a few months, but to destroy the media they are designed to play in the process.

Sony, a seedy past, but a bright future.

So cows....

Playstation Wii?

No thanks. I think it should go a little like this, From Cows to Cows: Time to Throw in with Nintendo. Nintendo is the market leader this generation. Be a leader, not a follower.;)

Don't get me wrong. I'll never buy a PS3, more than likely, and my 360 belongs to my brother. I only bought my Wii.

I'm just saying we should not burn that sony bridge for political reasons.

Why do you hate Sony?EPaul

Because my PS1 broke due to the faulty plastic hinge on the lense track that melted on all the launch models after a few thousand hours.

My first PS2 broke because of Disc Read Errors and was never replaced by Sony.

My second PS2 broke when it began leaving small circular scratches on the inside of my discs making them worthless for resale and unplayable.

My third PS3 was a slim.

My PSP came with 3 dead pixils and has since had a whole row of stuck pixils that I could probably fix, but I just stopped trying.

My Sony CD player in my car stopped working after I left the heater on for a long road trip one night and it overheated.

I hear the PS3 is fantastically built though, which is why I would even consider an alliance.

I only have a 360 because my brother bought it I only bought the Wii, but I do plan on getting a PS3 towards the end of the year because it has alot more games I'm anticipating then 360 (When I say Games I mean Exclusives) but both have less Exclusives that I'm interested in then the Wii.

Not really. I boughta PS1 and it stopped reading discs and they wouldn't replace it.I got a PSP, and the analog stick broke withina few months of fragile use -- Sony wouldn't replace it. All of the sony cd players I have bought in the past were bad quality, so I switched to memorex. I guess I have bad luck also?

I still find 360s setup more appealing than PS3, no matter what anyone has said. Its features for gaming really go together nicely. Nothing but 1 or 2 games on PS3 even slightly make me want to consider "playing" one.

I bought a first generation PS2 a month into their sales and I've never had a problem with it.
Hell I just bought God of War 2 yesterday and will be playing it later on tonight after the BCS game.

I think your 'bad luck' is the same cliched statements Sony haters have said for years on SW.

With that said, I am a true Sony product fanboy (my HDTV is a Sony and I love it, etc.) and even I think the PS3 is a ****ing waste of money and have already thrown my hat in to the Wii360 crowd.

Side note: I'm still a hermit at heart though.

possibly, only thing i ever have break on me that was made by sony was a ps3 controller. I still got a walkman cd player that is about 8 years old that still works even though its dusty, has been droped numerous times, and has a cracked hindge. Honestly never had better luck with a company in my life.

Hey man, if your saying I'm lying, I'm not.

My first PS2 died from DRE's, which was a wide spread problem, and my second one began clicking while I was playing Xenosaga. I checked the disc and there were small circular scratches around the middle of the disc. It was as if you took the lense and pressed it hard into the inner circumfrance of the disc and then spun the disc really fast. It didn't totally stop it from playing, but it did eventually ruin the games.

My PSP does indeed have dead pixils(sp?) right now, but I can overlook that, to be honest, because I don't game on it.

And my PS1 had an issue where there was a piece on the sliding track that held the laser. The piece had melted and the system no longer read games. I actually bought 2 new ones, where they had fixed those pieces with a metal piece.

I still have a PS1, has Final Fantasy tactics forever in the trey. My mini PS2 is right beside me now, and contains GTA: San Andreas.

My 360 also bricked itself with a RROD recently. My brother sent it off.

No Nintendo system I have ever owned has malfunctioned, even my VirtuaBoy.

I might seem like an unlucky consumer, but believe me when I tell you that a majority of PS2's did indeed have the dreaded DRE's and it was by no means a "luck" thing. Most of them eventually failed with enough play.

My combination of gaming constantly, because I basically have no life, and myself being an early adopter of things I like, means that if my stuff can break, it's probably going too.

I'm sure most PS2's that were only played for 10 or so hours a week sometimes, probably never got the disc scratching or DRE issues, and were never involved in a ****Action Lawsuit against sony.

However, I hear the PS3 is idiot proof, which is a nice change of pace. I wonder if this is the first piece of gaming hardware sony didn't outsource to produce.

I'm not lying.

Don't get me wrong. I'll never buy a PS3, more than likely, and my 360 belongs to my brother. I only bought my Wii.

I'm just saying we should not burn that sony bridge for political reasons.

you seriously need to get a life, don't take gaming too seriously!

Just got my new job, insurance salesman.

As soon as I buy that 4000 dollar PC, PS3 to accompany my Wii60, 70 inch Samsung LCD 1080P, and the entire back catelog of games that I've been needing to play, I'll get right on a life. Until then, I got 99 problems....

Wait, why does one need to be chosen? Both the 360 and PS3 compliment the Wii well. Why choose one over the other?

I agree. I got a wii at launch and this holiday I bought a ps3. My reasoning for the ps3?

1- wii is not enough. Wii + PS3 is all the games I need. I dont buy a new game every week

2- reliability- I dont want RROD, even if it isnt' as big a problem anymore. Even if they repair it for free. LOL! of course they should repair it for free! It's still a hassle I dont want, and makes the 360 as aesthetically unappealing as shoddily built car

3- price- the ps3 is actually less expensive if you include the years of online for free. (assuming it will always be free). Still, it's less hassle to have it free.

4- 1st party strength- since the n64, I came to believe that first party games are almost always superior to third party games because 1st party games are not only meant to make money, but are made to promote the console as well. Oh, and ranking the 1st parties goes like this Nintendo> Sony >> MS (for me at least). Sony has made huge strides since the psone

You and your sales figures.

The Wii has sales, but not a competitive library. To remedy this, you want to join forces with a system that has niether?

Yeah, good luck with that.

for the xbox 360 not much. They've taken the route of collaborating with third party projects, which is very good, but not quite as good as first party.

Anyway, this is ms first party that I'm aware of (please expand someone)

bungie (but not anymore)- Halo 3, Halo Wars

Rare- kameo, viva pinata, perfect dark zero, banjo 3

lionhead- Fable
