Fun games that don't take themselves too seriously

I'm a little burned out of grimdark/heavy story games, since that's all I've been playing lately. I've played through the likes of Bioshock trilogy, the last 3 Tomb Raider games, The Last of Us, Uncharted series, Assassin's Creed games until Black Flag, Alan Wake, Far Cry 3 and 4 (havent's started Far Cry 5 yet), Mass Effect until the third one, All Batman Arkham games.

I want to switch to games that are more fun than "deep", maybe more lighthearted or with an arcade-feel to them, but that are still good and challenging without relying too much on serious narrative.

Genres: anything but sports and strategy

Have you played Guacamelee 1 and 2? Sooo fun to play. There are other great metroidvanias like Ori and the blind forest, Strider etc.

There are many shooters that fits the bill: Doom 2016 (and the brutal Doom mod), Bulletstorm, Vanquish etc.

DmC: Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, God Of War 3.

I'd recommend to get the ones you can on PC, because some of them (Bayonetta) plays like crap on Ps3.

Buggy on PC, but Psychonauts is good clean fun.

In that vein, an absurd adventure: Grim Fandango. Or Day of the Tentacle.

Ratchet and Clank.

Earth Defense Force 2017 (or 2025) for Xbox360.

The Ur-Quan Masters aka the free, reworked version of Star Control 2 (1992). It's like a point & click adventure game with arcade spaceship battles. See my sig (3rd game, right side).

You should play Spec Ops: The Lin---no, just kidding. Way too serious.

• If you want a fun, good, not-serious game you need look no further than Brutal Legend. It's Grimdark....humor. Dark humor :P Basically Jack Black voices the main character who goes to this fantasy world full of heavy metal stereotypes, where all the allies and enemies are voiced by metal legends. Amazing game that has aged well.
• Bulletstorm was pretty fun and goofy and over the top for a shooter.
• Divinity: Original Sin 1/2 are not only some of the best RPG's ever, but they are quite humorous. I recommend taking the "animal friend" perk not only because animals know a lot of things in the game ,but also because they are hilarious.
• Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is another goofy shooter with an 80's action movie vibe. I actually thought it was more fun than the base Far Cry 3. Voiced by Michael Beihn (of Terminator), it's full of jokes, one liners, fun references, and just great.
• Gunpoint is a fun 2D game with funny bits to it.
• If you like XCOM and base management games, but don't want the whole "AHHH THE WORLD IS ENDING" kind of deal, Halcyon 6 is a pretty fun!
• Hitman 1/2 has some pretty amusing methods of killing people, plus it never takes itself too serious. I mean it can be serious, but the corny voice acting plus the characters themselves and how you can eliminate them, is pretty great.

Earth Defense Force would be high on that list.

If you like Ps Vita, you should try to get into the Hyperdimension Neptunia series. The Vita has tons of them and not all are rpg. Also there's Y's VIII and Hatsune Miku, which is a fun rhythm game. The Vita is an awesome anime game machine. The majority of those games are light hearted and silly.

For the big consoles, Spyro Reignited and Crash N Sane Trilogy are great too. Fun pick up and play! There's also the almighty Kingdom Hearts.

Crazy Taxi is up there as one of the best "just fun" games I can think of. Stardew Valley as well. Fucking love Stardew.

Assault Android Cactus: Twin stick shooter.

Defence Grid: The Awakening: Tower defence.

God Hand on the PS2 was hilariously awesome. Something more recent would be Bulletstorm.

Yakuza 0. I'm playing it now and the game is really funny. Doesn't take itself seriously at all.
