The direction of this new generation will depend on the Day 1 sales numbers for the Xbone. In just a few more days, the future direction of this generation and every subsequent generation will be revealed.

If the Xbone sells less than 500,000 worldwide on Nov 22nd, you can bet your ass that SONY will engulf 90+% of the console marketshare and will be the console that every 3rd party will cater to. I expect lots of 3rd party multiplats to go exclusive. I expect KH3, FFXV, and MGS V to become PS exclusives again if the sales are too lopsided.

However, even more pressing than 3rd party exclusives is the fact that SONY will never lose their King of All Games crown ever again.

It's clear, Xbone has no chance to beat the PS4.

1 mil+ in 24hrs in the market where they lost most...

Because if they amount of units they sell is too low, then SONY will get back all of the 3rd party exclusives they've lost in the previous gen. And all the hermits who are laughing at the "console peasants" fighting it out, you guys should be worried as well. If the PS4 conquers over 90+% of the marketshare, 3rd party AAA multiplats won't develop for the PC.

If that happens, everyone will be gaming on the PS4 and all of those gamers will be invested in the PS ecosystem. This could be it for Microsoft.

Funny you say this, yet you and I both know Microsoft doesn't support their products after 2-3 years.

Both consoles will see out, so it comes down to who produce more. If Microsoft have produced less, they have the funds to keep multipats until there is enough on the market.

Although 1st day sales are good on PS4, it means nothing in the whole scale of things. There are a million and one things Microsoft could do if the sales where going to be that bad. The fact they haven't shows they are not concerned at the current rate of presales/expected sales.

Your post I way short sighted at best. Its a marathon not a sprint as they say.

I don't know. I expect SONY to have 90+%, but that's just my guess, which is why everything will depend on how the Xbone performs on the 22nd of November.

Also, multiplats do not mean more money for devs.

The PS4 will have all the core gamers - the people who actually buy 12+ games yearly - as well as the casual market. Furthermore, the Xbone is difficult to dev for, meaning 3rd parties are wasting lots of resources to cater to 10% of the population who probably won't even buy their games.

Multiplats mean more revenue, but it does not mean more profits.

It's funny that people actually think that this is a good thing. Having any single supplier "dominate" will simply spell an age of depression for the gaming industry. The only exception is perhaps PC, but that's because PC hardware has more component/prebuild suppliers than consoles have first party devs; even if PC dominates competition will still persist. The same cannot be said if a close-platform console supplied by a single giant company dominates the market.

The handheld industry could have gone very badly when PS Vita failed and 3DS remained. However, thanks to the existence of countless mobile games, 3DS still has to think about competing instead of just milking cash from customers.

Think again.

No more CoD on the PC. No more Assassin's Creed on the PC. No more Battlefield on the PC. No MGS V on the PC. No more GTA on the PC. The list goes on. 3rd parties will make more in profit by developing for just the PS4 if the PS4 dominated the market.

@BattlefieldFan1: I'm sorry. But your post is so opinionated. Looking back at the first incarnation of the Xbox, PS2 was light years ahead of the Xbox and still had major 3rd party support. I'm getting the XBox One and buy ludicrous amounts of games a year, so are all my mates.

90% is laughable even if Microsoft has a disastrous launch.

I just need to get a gauge for how delusional some posters on this forum are...

Depends on who's the competition though.

I don't find MS to be a good competitor, especially if you know they wanted to push DRM, 24hr check-ins,... And it looks like they're going after the casuals with kinect now.

MS should leave and concentrate on PC gaming and another party should enter the console race.

Because 3rd parties didn't expect the Xbone to flop this much... Why else do you think EA signed an exclusive deal with MS? You can bet your ballsack that if EA knew beforehand that the PS4 would get 1+ million sales in NA within 24 hours while the Xbone got less than 200,000 world-wide, they'd bendover and get raided by all of SONY's execs to get an exclusive deal with them.

Again, only 10% of the market and those 10% aren't core gamers. The amount of manpower it takes to dev for the Xbone costs tons of money, which won't be recuperated with sales since no one on the Xbone bought your game...

Unless you haven't noticed, I was throwing out hypothetical scenarios that are within the realm of possibility. If you read articles interviewing devs, you'd know that it took 2 people to port games from the PC to the PS4. Wonder how many people it took to get the game from the PC to the Xbone and optimize it for acceptable performance. I'm willing to bet 90% of the programmers in the company. Programmers aren't cheap either. Just think about it. If the PS4 engulfs 90% of the market, companies can fire 90% of their coders and dev team. That will free up a TON of dev costs.

True, they may not be able to get a small 1% revenue by selling to ultra casuals on the Xbone, but they'd more than make it up by firing most of their dev team and getting a slightly smaller revenue. That means higher profit.

So let me see. You actually think if X1 fails the developers are gonna start catering to PS4 only and abandon PC ? In other words if they loose xbox market they are gonna abandon a 2nd market in this case pc to develop just for 1 console ( and a console which is gonna take a couple of years to have a good install base that is ) . Yeap your logic sounds quite stupid i might say

Your reasoning is stupid. Unless the Xbox One sells a pitiful amount it's still going to get support. Most games cost far too much for developers to only put them on one console and nobody is going to sniff at like 50 million Xbox Ones even if the PS4 had 100 million sold.

I think they should have a healthy launch considering that no bad press hinders it, they have a good looking launch line-up, and an impressive looking machine. They'll be lifting review embargoes through the week so hopefully this helps build a few days of increased anticipation right before launch.

I think consumer buzz is what will help the consoles out post launch. Right now PS4 gamers (as they claim) seem to be too busy playing their awesome exclusive to come online and say positive things about the system. The buzz seemed stronger for the system before launch then after. I think the success between the two will come down to post launch buzz. Whether MS does great I think depends on the consumer word of mouth (and internet) buzz that follows the launch.

Your reasoning is stupid. Unless the Xbox One sells a pitiful amount it's still going to get support. Most games cost far too much for developers to only put them on one console and nobody is going to sniff at like 50 million Xbox Ones even if the PS4 had 100 million sold.

hehehe... Implying the Xbone will even get above 15 million lifetime.

Lol! 360 has sold around 78 mil so far. What are you on?

at the very worst it will be 2:1 lifetime which would mean something like 100 million ps4's vs 50 million X1's so they will do more than 15 million that's a given. Now 2:1 is based on the X1 always being a hundred dollars more which isn't very likely to happen so I think it will be closer than 2:1 in the end.

who gives a shit, my enjoyment of a console doesn't depend on other people buying it. A million people fell for the hype of the ps4 and got rewarded with no games and broken consoles that wobble.

apparently is does its like if the console you like to play on doesn't sell more than its closest competitor you would then be incapable of playing on that machine again ....Cow theory

Moronic logic.

Sales disaster = no 3rd party support.

With the exception of Naughty Dog, 3rd party games > 1st party games.

Both Ps4 and Xbone will be fine.
