It just struck me. If you wanna know the future of the ps3 look at the psp. If you wannna know the future of nintendo wii look and the ds. I say this because sony is using the same approach with the ps3 as they did with psp...u know, making it a media device not only a gaming device. On the other hand nintendo is going in the opposite direction focusing on gaming and innovation like it did with the ds.

So there are my two cents.........i feel bad for sony, they shoud have learned from the psp.

its hardly comparable since there are many differences between sony's and nintendo's handheld counterparts.

But the basic elements of Sony going into a full-on entertainment system and Nintendo going innovative is still there ...

The handheld and console market are different, but the situation could repeat itself.

The DS always outsells the PSP on a ratio of 2:1 and the sales are repeating in the Wii to PS3 situation. I would say this thread is fairly accurate.

If you really want to know what the future of the wii and ps3 is... well... *points to the PCs*.
I do think that Sony tried to "over do it" on the PS3...

That's not a very apt comparison.  Consoles are much more versatile machines and can include peripherial hardware devices if they were to be so implemented.  Also, consoles have a different audience and a different bar of gameplay styles than handheld games.  As well, you have to factor in Sony's inexperience at the handheld market, Nintendo's GB dominance over the past decade and a half, and the price difference between the two.  Also, realize that even though the Wii and PS3 share that price difference, price didn't assist the N64 or the GC from beating the PS1 or PS2, even though both the GC and N64 were significantly cheaper at nearly all times.

For the people saying that the handheld sales have no parallel to the console sales. Why are the numbers continually disproving you? Should we expect the sales to completely change tomorrow?

Last I checked the X360 had sold more than the Wii, the PS2 and Xbox had sold more than the GC, and the PSone sold more than the N64.  Just because you dominant an area of the games market does not translate into direct correlation to another area, as it was proven with the PS2 and PSP.  Sales follow software.

The 360 has been out a year longer than the Wii, and the Wii is beating out the 360 on a day to day basis. The Gamecube did not mimick the Gameboy franchise and the Gameboy didn't even have any direct competition. The DS/Wii and PSP/PS3 are comparable however and the numbers are proving that.

I've said this time and time again, DS has poor competition and the only handheld in which software is actually making money ight now, PSP games just don't sell that well. Wii is in the console market, very different when you have much stronger competition.

Facts are facts, and the facts show that the Wii is repeating the success of the DS, by following in the footsteps of the DS.

The PS3 is not like the PSP because the PS3 has games. You fail.

According to gamespot, the psp does have games. In fact, it has the same number of AAA games than the DS and more AA games than the DS. I believe you fail.

really? i mean even  the dashboard is the same on the psp and ps3, look at it this way. psp cost more then ds. psp has better graphics. (like ps3) ds is cheaper and has innovation. (like wii) psp has multimedia (ps3 also does) ds focuses on games more then media (just like ds) i definatly see a resemblance here.
