G4TV: If Activision drops PS3 support, here is what PS3 owners couldn't play

Activision is threatening to drop support for PlayStation 3 (and PSP, but let's focus on the big target here) if Sony doesn't drop the price of their hardware soon. As the world's largest third-party publisher, Activision wields power. If Activision made good on their threats, what would be the impact?

I combed through the company's upcoming release calendar for the rest of 2009 and produced a list of games PlayStation 3 owners wouldn't see if Activision drops support for the platform. Note:This has almost zero chance of happenning, as most of these games are nearly finished. It's merely a "what if?" scenario.

Let me know if there's anything missing, but if Activision drops support for PlayStation 3, here's the games that wouldn't be appearing on the machine in 2009:

• Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen -- June 23
• Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs -- June 30
• Wolfenstein -- August 4
• Guitar Hero 5 -- September 1
• Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 -- September 8
• Singularity -- TBA
• Cabela's Outdoor Adventure -- September 22
• Tony Hawk: Ride -- October
• Bakugan -- October
• Modern Warfare 2 -- November 10
• Chaotic -- November
• Guitar Hero: Van Halen -- Fall
• Band Hero -- Fall
• Cabela's Big Game Hunter 2009 -- TBA

Which game would you miss the most? Something tells me it's not Ice Age.

If you only own a PS3, what games will you be missing if this happens?

MW2 is the only good game on that list IMO

Only ones that interest me from that list.

Singularity, Wolfenstein, Tony Hawk Ride, and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2.

I'm a fan of Raven Software and the first two games I listed are Raven Software games, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 and the Xmen Legends were all made by Raven Software. So I might get the MUA2. Tony Hawk Ride is a welcome change to the series which I can't wait for.

I would miss none of those games.

Only one, Modern Warfare 2. But activision will support the ps3 becasue they will still make money off of it.

I don't like Activision as a company, but this would be huge. It'd be like what happened with the Dreamcast when the PS2 began dominating. To lose a major 3rd party publisher, would be a stake through the heart, no doubt.

The only game on that list I hope turns out good is Wolfenstein. I don't get Singularity. It looked like it had potential early on, but now it looks like complete crapola.

Alot of Mw junkies and Guitar hero fans would be missing out. Am I in the right for thinking its a load of crap though? Like this whole Acti/Ps3 thing... To just drop support. I dont know but anything is possible to an extent.

This is just downright dumb. Why would you drop support of a console. I mean I wanna buy MW2 on PS3. But then again this might put sony in a position to finally cut down the price of the PS3

i'd like to play the marvel ultimate alliance 2 and the revamp of wolfenstein. but if they dont release those for ps3 i dont care enough to get a 360 to play them. im pretty sure those games listed are already planned for ps3 release, i think activision was saying that future planned releases for ps3 might be curbed/stopped.

whats the big deal?all ps3 owners have a gaming pc anyways remember?

and i was not planning on buying any of those games, maybe i'll get the sequal for all those games next year

The OP is flawed. There's absolutely no way that Activision will pull the plug on games like Modern Warfare 2 or any other game that's around the corner. If Activision pulled the plug on the PS3 (which is not likely), it will probably happen in the quasi-distant future. Even if we assume that Activision will pull the plug on the PS3, we can't really say for sure what PS3 owners would be missing.

I'd be missing Call of Duty games ..... which I like , but don't love. I have a lot of PS3 shooters and combat games to play so I'll just play soemthing else.

If I owned only a Ps3, I could honestly say I wouldn't miss any of those.

And I really hope no one actually thinks Activision would stop developing games for Ps3.

what company would not want the extra money from all the people that will be bying the mw2 for ps3?

Most if not all those games have been in development for the PS3 for a long time & it would cost more to pull the plug than to release.

They said if it was going to happen it would be in 2010 or 2011.

I think the general consensus here says no one would care much if Craptivision does drop the PS3 support.

That's the biggest problem. If Activision actually released quality original titles instead of sequels, then there wouldn't be a problem. If Call of Duty 4 had only been released on PS3, it still would havesold the same saleswise on the console (by the way, since when is selling over 4 million copies of a game on a console considered poor support? Especially, when the game has sold fewer copies on the 360.). PS3 owners simply don't care about shooters; case and point, Killzone 2. Everything Activision releases on the PS3 does half as well. Not only because people don't buy their games, but because PS3 owners now have better games to play.

If Activision wants to sell over 20 million copies like Wii Play, then they better come up with a plan that involves not dropping support for systems.

I dont own a ps3 but would be gutted if i only had a ps3 as it would mean i may not have call of duty of guitar hero anymore!!
