witch system is more powerful ? game cube has cpu power pc gekko 485mhz gpu ati 165mhz 43 MiB total non-unified RAM xbox has 733 MHz Intel Pentium III mobile 233mhz nvidia gpu 64 mb ram. the reason why i post this is cus of the wii . game cube was almost as powerful as the first xbox .. in fact the cpu was much better on the cube. the cube had less memory and a slower clock speed . but alot of cube games look better then any xbox one game . so i think the wii is pretty powerful compared to xbox one . the ram on the xbox is even slower then game cubes is .deadmeat59
umm ... i'd like to rip this guy a new one ....
but i'll let the lemmings take care of this.
Xbox was a more powerful machine = FACT. But GC was a better console, imo.Kratos_OMEGA
They are equal:
Planet GameCube: How flexible and useful is Gekko in assisting Flipper with custom lighting and geometry? Are you using this feature? Does it compare to the vertex and pixel shaders on the Xbox's graphics chip?
Julian Eggebrecht: Maybe without going into too much detail, we don't think there is anything visually you could do on X-Box (or PS2) which can't be done on GameCube. I have read theories on the net about Flipper not being able to do cube-mapped environment maps, fur shading, self-shadowing etc... That's all plain wrong. Rogue does extensive self-shadowing and both cube-maps and fur shading are not anymore complicated to implement on GameCube than on X-Box. You might be doing it differently, but the results are the same. When I said that X-Box and GameCube are on par power-wise I really meant it.

Xbox was more powerful, but not by much.
Yeah teh xbox was fun and all but i loved the gamecube so much to the point that it's my favourite console ever, Wind Waker and Wave Race FTW!!!

Xbox has higher specs, it has to be more powerful technically. Even if the output is same.

Your words against a developer? I don't think so. And their specs aren't directly comparable according to your knowledge of them. Big numbers don't=more powerful.
The Cube was a LOT more efficient. The only thing that the Xbox has over GC is built-in shader support. The Cube could do shaders, dev's just have to learn how to use the TEV as Julian from factor 5 pointed out.manicfoot
efficent in what?
imo resident evil 4 on the GC looked better then any game on the xbox...except ninja gaiden.joeychew
Except for Far Cry and The Chronicles of Riddick.
btw I own RE4 for the GC

Apparently the GC was able to easily surpass the X-Box and PS2 in terms of textures. In fact, many of the X-Box games I see heralded as being graphically impressive have bland and repetitive textures. Apparently, with enough dev effort, the Wii is able to outmuscle even the 360 or PS3 in that one field. Or so I've heard.
Edit: Seems I was mistaken, as I can't find anything. But I distinctly recall hearing about this from several sources.

Has Nintendo started packaging crack with wii's?
[QUOTE="Necro12345"]The Xbox compltely obliterates the GC in graphic power. There is no better console, jus pros and cons.Ramadear
Julian Eggebrecht from Factor5 disagrees. So are you a developer to say otherwise?

I know. The G.C.'s high end games looked so much better. Don't kid yourself, Halo 2 was pathetic when compared to games like Metroid Prime, Residant Evil 4, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, or Chronicles of Riddick.

Thats were something called the "developers understanding" of the hardware comes into play. Its obvious that most developers didn't know how to achieve Xbox effects on the Gamecube. Thats not to say that the Gamecube couldn't do them, rather the developers didn't know how to. As pointed out by Julian, he is surprised that its taken developers so long to understand how to achieve simple effects on the Gamecube and Wii hardware.
Whoa. Did I just walk into a time machine that sent me back to 2002?
The Xbox and Gamecube are deader than Elvis. Why argue?
Genesis has blast processing, Nintendon't. FIGHT!

The GameCube was practically tied with the Xbox. Just look at Zelda:TP, Rebel Strike, or Resident Evil 4, and you will see that the GC could more than hold its own against the Xbox.
Like other posters have said, the clock speeds were lower, but the GC used a more efficient architecture (faster memory and more cache, for example), which made it more or less equal to the Xbox, if not better.
Now you take the Wii, with more than twice the GC's memory, improved bandwidths and caching, and faster clock speeds, and you end up with a superior system to the Xbox.
GC=Xbox and Wii>GC
therefore...
Wii>Xbox
Do all you people seriously think the Xbox was more powerful? The Pentium III architecture was a joke. The PowerPC is far superior to it. Higher clock speeds does NOT equal higher performance.
