Yup it's true, on the very last page of the latest game informer with Deus Ex on the cover.
I'm so glad I hung on to my original PS2 and my 50 plus games for it.
I whole heartedly agree, the PS2 was the best console ever.

I just read that in the issue this morning!
I'd kind of have to agree. I think it had one of the largest libraries of good games in recent memory. For RPG fans like myself, anyways. It's a shame I sold my PS2 and the 60+ games I had for it, some of those games were really good, and there hasn't been anything like them since!
Well it was the first console to feature the DVD drive after all so of course it's the best console and let's not forget it's awesome great games it had. DVD was a thing when PS2 arrive and most of all, it was the cheapest DVD/Game console back then and the standalone DVD players were high as hell.
PS2 is the greatest console because of the selection of games for sure. However, I would say the 360 is the greatest console ever when it comes to user experience. The OS, controller, services, and the way everything was integrated into the overall experience, the 360 is still unmatched.
All my ps2 is good for is its BC, and that I have the Mega Man Classic and X collections on it. It's easily my least favorite gen 6 system.
Can't agree with PS2. Even though I don't see the failure rate like some claim--I'm still on the first model I bought, the console just has a few issues. The big ones for me are two controller ports, the need for a separate network adaptor, and most of all it has sht video output with aliasing bundled with interlaced video.
Sega Genesis, NES, SNES are much better choices.
In terms of sales and the number of games on it, yeah it probably is... but it definitely isn't my favourite.
I'd give that honor to the SNES actually. Sorry but Super Metroid, Yoshi's Island and Link To The Past are like the three greatest games ever made. Shadow Of The Colossus? Ico? God Of War? Great games but they just aren't the holy trinity.
For me it's:
PS2 was a great console but I have to give the nod to the SNES also. So many legendary games and franchises was on the console. No way I can put the PS2 ahead of it.
PS2 not only an amazing console with amazing games, it had also backwards compatibility. So yea, it's nothing strange for them getting the title best console all time.
PS2 was basically a Genesis and Super Nintnendo wrapped into one console. It was that awesome. I really liked the XBox for Gen6 as well, but anyone who didn't have a PS2 was just living in the wilderness back in that gen. PS2 was the essential console.
Yet the best games that gen weren't found on it. Metroid Prime, Pikmin, Ninja Gaiden Black, Halo CE. All arguably better than any single game the PS2 had exclusively to it. It just had so many good games that it's hard not to favor it.
Both Gamecube and Xbox were better machines with better exclusives. And the Ps2 was the worst choice for multiplats. Aaand I don't like the controller, aaand yeah i'm not a big fan of the PS2 :P
Still a good console though.

Agreed. The best games were on Gamecube and Xbox. What exactly does PS2 have? I am not calling it a bad console--I quite like it in ways--but when you break down as to why go back to it? All the sports games have evolved, its got no fps games really, its got the worst versions of fighting games.........................................its got rpgs I guess? A few action games? People always bring up the massive library and while it was big, the console was also the king of shovelware.
Dreamcast has stronger exclusives. As does Sega Saturn and Nintendo 64.
I much preferred my Dreamcast, Xbox and GameCube. PlayStation 2 was great and all, but it just wasn't defining for me in really any way.
I don't have any "man I really miss that" or "oh that was so much fun" memories tied to it. It was great and it had great games, I just think it was unremarkable though.
I'm fine with it. It's really tough for me to pick a "best" console but I would definitely put the PS2 in the mix. Even though it contributed to the death of the Dreamcast I will allow it.

That's going too far lol

The bolded, you're objectively wrong and that shall be forever etched into the cosmos.
Name a Dreamcast exclusive that was better than Shadow Of The Colossus, Ico, God Of War I/II, Virtua Fighter 4, Klonoa 2, Jak and Daxter, Twisted Metal Black, Ratchet And Clank Up Your Aresonal? PS2 didn't have the best exclusives, but it had more great games than all other gen 6 consoles combined.

Ya'll are completely crazy. Katamari Damacy. End of conversation.
Game Informer has a very strong case, though.
Arguably, the PS2 is really the last time you can say that you only needed one console.

I would say that the Dreamcast had more experimental, risky and unique exclusives, better is a matter of preference.

Most of Dreamcasts killer apps came to other platforms anyway. Soul Calibur, Jet Set Radio, Sonic Adventure, Shenmue, Crazy Taxi etc. But the bolded is correct sir.

So I agree.
For me it was the Playstation followed closely by the N64.
I put more hours into those two consoles then any other. I lost nights in FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX, FF Tactics, Vagrant Story, Grandia, Alundra, Legend of Mana, Threads of Fate, Suikoden 2, Breath of Fire III and IV, Xenogears, Chrono Cross, Twisted Metal, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 1 and 2, Castlevania Sympathy of the Night, Tales of Destiny 2, Tony Hawk Pro Skater etc. I mean really no games on the PS2 gave me that many hours.
N64 I was up all night playing Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Turok Dinosaur Hunter, Star Fox 64, Golden Eye, OoT, Majora's Mask, Smash Brothers etc.

So shoot em ups and games that came to PS2 and Xbox?
And Twisted Metal Black destroys Demolition Racer. Dreamcast doesn't really have many games that aren't arcade ports or what weren't ported to some other platform in the future. If you perfer those titles then fine. That's your opinion. But Dreamcasts library doesn't come close to the PS2's don't lie to yourself.

I said the exclusives are better.
I don't think the ps2 is bad. I said it isn't the best console for a few issues, namely video quality. Dreamcast looks better.
Why all the love for the SNES? Many of its games had no password or save option. You had to beat games like Jurassic Park in one sitting. It had loads of games that were either too hard, made no sense, or were buggy/glitchy. PS2 crushes the SNES in every way.
Never owned one, i don't feel like i misses anything worth playing... My nostalgia tells me the N64 is the best console ever
Still remember seeing madden for the first time on PS2. My goodness. It was just a beauty to look at. I remember when I saw the faces have expressions and the eyes blink. It blew me away. Then I got the Xbox. Nothing like ripping CDs onto the hard drive and play in your own music to games that allowed it. ie NFL2K5, Conflict Desert Storm. . Ahhh good times.
Edit: and PGR! It had a radio station that played your music! Too awesome
I loved the PS2. It had a lot of really good games but seemed to lack any all time classics for me. A system like the N64 on the other hand didn't have nearly as many games but had some all time greats in Mario 64, Zelda TOOT, Zelda MM, Goldeneye, Banjo Kazooie, etc. It's really quality vs quantity.
