Batman: Arkham Asylum tidbits from review

"THE BEST BATMAN GAME EVER MADE"

+inhabitants of Arkham Asylum feel like living, breathing characters. Converse w/ one another, interact with Arkham's geometry, and create their own self-contained stories
+Melee system highlights brutal efficiency. Even when odds are stacked against you, you feel as if you can take everybody out.
+Areas of the Asylum are blocked off until new gadgets are obtained (zelda/metroid ****

- The final confrontation is a MAJOR letdown. A good idea gone to waste. In this scene an outrageous concept is squashed by Batman's mortality. The fight that follows is easily the game's worst.

Goes on to say: "Regardless, Batman: AA is this year's Bioshock...delivers an adventure unlike any other"

Batman: Arkham Asylum is not only the best Batman game to come out on consoles, it's a contender for Game of the Year."

------

FF Dissidia tidbits

+If you love FF characters you will be in amazement as you watch characters from all over the FF universe to battle.
+The speed of the action and the top-notch presentation is almost enough to make you forget the game isn't good.

-Basic combat mechanics are unsatisfying. Erratic camera, shallow mechanics, and unreliable commands for performing specific attacks make implementing strategy difficult.
-Unlocking cool stuff involves grinding through the repetitive story mode.
-Multi-player only works locally.

"Dissidia is only valuable to gamers who can look past massive flaws and appreciate being immersed in the lore of the series."

Hm, I would agree it's this years BioShock, considering I find it to be a overrated boring game.. But I wouldn't call it GOTY from what I've played.

So Dissidia scored that low? I guess I wait for more reviews of the game.

I am definitely picking up Arkham Asylum, after I finish reading the comic book.

Im renting Arkham. Too many other games coming out. But still fantastic scores all around. Wonder what other reviews will be like. Demo was a blast, but actual hand to hand combat was a little shallow and too easy. But game seems to be about detective/stealth first combat second. Sounds good to me.

Well im not surprised after playing the demo. It was pretty generic and did not have much depth to it. The Ai also sucks and the controls are pretty lame.

generic how exaclty? the gameplay was far different than most fighters

and depth? HAHAHAHA, how can you base the games depth off of a demo?....trust me, the game will have PLENTY depth...in the actual game you can level up your character and equip him/her with different weapons/armor that effect how much HP you have, damage dealt and recieved, etc.

Same here. I will either rent it or pick it up next year on the cheap. The demo was ok to me, but nothing that made me want to run out and buy it. Just too many other games coming out that puts this one in the rear view mirror for me.

They gave Blue Dragon a 9.0 and Assasin's Creed a 9.5. I just don't think it's reasonable to trust them on every review....they may have legitimate reviews, but I think it's clear they don't always rate games reasonably. That said I thought the PC demo was fun, despite the fact that I hated the PS3 demo.

the fighting can have as much depth as you so please...same goes with any fighter

combos can get as in depth as you so please....and the limit breaks/overdrives are a nice touch to the gameplay

I don't remember sadly, but that is still a high score and wouldn't be surprised if the 2nd opinion was an 8, and how did the reviewer manage to survive with it's awful controls, flawed targeting system, etc., he must be hardcore!:P

I am seriously considering purchasing Batman this month after all these fabulous reviews and riveting demo but I am still holding out for reviews from the big three (GT, GS, and IGN). The demo really has me optimistic for this game I have played it over a few times and I find the potential for veriety in combat and puzzles to be very good. The only thing that might hinder this game is diffuculty, hopefully there will be an ability to rachet it up from the start. Emeny AI seems very reminiscent of Assasins Creed when unarmed and somewhat Splinter Cell naive when armed. The plus is that takedowns seems varied and busting through overhead glass or slinging a guy upside down from gargoyles never gets old.

It's still an early review of a major title (meaning it has to adhere to the conditions of a media embargo), and therefore should be taken with a grain of salt. I'm not saying it isn't going to be an AAA game, but by their nature early reviews are questionable at best.

Also, anyone else actually turned off by the "it's this year's BioShock" comment?

Hmm I will take this review with a grain of salt GI's reviews are so sporadic sometimes. As for Batman:AA I'm still on the fence I most likely give it a rent.

The demo was awesome. I think the game will follow through. I'm gonna hold out until I can get it on PC for better gfx. The "joker" ps3 mode doesnt really interest me mush.

Im a skeptic. It was a fun demo, but some of the controls were a bit off, and I felt like eventually the beauty and novelty would wear off. Maybe the PS3 version will play better than the 360 version. I preordered the ps3 version for joker, but only played the 360 demo.
