Speaking a few days agoon Yahoo Finance Live, Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter admitted to having been wrong to doubt the original idea of Game Pass. He then said the game subscription service could jump to a hundred million subscribers once the Activision Blizzard deal is completed.

Microsoft had a vision years ago that I thought was stupid, that they were going to come up with a subscription service, and everybody would pay them for the right to play games. And they just didn't have very many games.

Then they went on a buying spree, and they bought six independent studios, the biggest of which is Obsidian. They're very, very good. But then they bought Bethesda, which is a giant studio, and now they're buying Activision. When they're done, they are the fourth major game publisher in the US. So they're going to be giant, and they're going to be in a position to actually support their Game Pass subscription.

Their future vision is, let's eliminate the console. Let's use the cloud, and let's deliver games to any screen that you have. And that potential market is 3 and 1/2 billion people. So I don't think they'll get that many Game Pass subscribers, but will they go from 25 million to 100 million? Yes.

What say you SW? Are you thinking this is a good thing for us gamers? I personally like to see even better value for the money that is being spent. This would surely add a lot of value for Game Pass subscribers.

They'll gain a ton from yearly Call of Duty players alone.

Im more interested in Activision's back catalog of games that they keep removing because they don't want to continue paying for licenses.

Like the Deadpool game and Prototype

Call of Duty day one on Game Pass can be pretty darn huge that is for sure. That would give you day one on Xbox, Microsoft Windows PC, iOS, Android and Samsung TV....all included with your $15 a month Game Pass Ultimate sub. Or $1 for 3 years sub :)

Seems like a pretty tall order but I could see this happening down the line when not only Call of Duty hits the service but other big hitters as well such as The Elder Scrolls VI.

he didn't give a timeframe so who knows.. I will say that Call of Duty is the key..

right now, your average gamer probably still doesn't know Game Pass exists.. but once you put all the Call of Duty games into the backlog and release every new Call of Duty into the service on day-one, the mass market will take notice..

and once they take notice, that's when the Elder Scrolls, the Dooms, the Fallouts, the Forzas, and other heavy hitters can keep them engaged until the next Call of Duty drops..

I can't name a better game to attack mindshare for Game Pass than Call of Duty.. and that is exactly why this deal was initiated..

Any thread with Pachter should be banned, same too with vgchartz numbers.

One talks out of his arse and the other gives out unofficial numbers.

Maybe in time, first MS needs to get to point of delivering steady timely releases to the service.

Then you just take each claim case by case.

wonder whether cod3 will be available for pc on gamepass. wasn't anywhere near as good as 1 and 2 from what i remember on the 360 but would give it a whirl as a bit of a blast from the past

There are times he's right if given the time to see what's the real problem and I never hated the guy, he's just an analyst like any analyst out there. You just take it for that they say or leave it.

Yeah, getting old sucks. Seems based on the age of many of the accounts here, I am guessing we are seeing a lot of gray members.

Most casuals just want to play COD, they're not going to want to deal with a subscription. People underestimate how dumb casuals are. 70 dollars a year >>> 180 dollars a year. No subscription is going to get to the top because of one product.

Maybe, just maybe folks would sub for more than just COD. I know, know it is a shot in the dark type logic.🤭

There will also be those that cant afford a new call of duty every year and would sign up to play with their friends.

Even if its just for a month, thats still billions in revenue for MS, and thats assuming they all unsubscribe.

$10 a month is a lot easier to swallow than $70 up front......for ONE game.

Take it from someone who grew up poor. I wouldve LOVED to have a service like game pass back then.

I had to fight to be allowed to spend $20 on ONE game, with game pass i would have HUNDREDS for what i could make shoveling snow for neighbor.

firstly, it's all about mindshare and marketing.. if you want to give Game Pass a mass market appeal, you advertise it alongside a game like Call of Duty.. it's just that simple..

secondly, you're the one talking about how dumb casuals are yet you're overcomplicating the equation.. it's not 70 dollars a year >>> 180 dollars a year.. it's $10 >>>>>> $70 to have day one access to a game you want to play..

and just like the proven metrics of all other subscriptions, people tend to "sub and forget".. yeah, it's gonna be on Microsoft to keep people engaged throughout the year but a game like Call of Duty gets people in the door every holiday season..

Finally, Pachter admitting his predictions are wrong... And then making another prediction which will probably be wrong again. Whenever he predicts something, the opposite happens. The Anti-Nostradamus.

It will be big if MS dump a load of CoD on Gamepass as well as Day One releases.

I disagree with him though, it'll take a long time for MS to get to a point where they're getting a steady flow of games to Gamepass.

I have no doubt it will get to 100 million. Its inevitable.
