Leading High Street retailer GAME is refusing to stock copies of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for the PS3.

The title, developed by Bethesda and published on the Sony console by Ubisoft, is not available in any of the company's 400 UK and Ireland stores.

Wonder if the retailer is worried about getting stuck with PS3 software due to the small user base at this time?

Discuss.

Why? They obviously stock other PS3 games. Are they not making enough of a profit on it?

That doesn't make any sense whatsoever... if you're not going to stock something why would it be one of the best games on the platform.

I smell politics. If I had to guess, I would say GAME are not happy with the profits they can make with Sony, and are making a statement about it with a huge title.

*Scratches Head* Isn't this the best selling game for the PS3 at the moment? I may be wrong.

How bizzare. There is probably some argument over how much Game has to pay for the title.

I remember in the UK back when the Xbox just launched the major retailer WH Smiths refused to stock the machine for over 6 months because they didn't like the amount of profit they were to receive of each system sold.

Very weird, I wonder why they aren''t stocking what is arguably the best PS3 game around. Profitability issues? Makes you wonder if this will happen again with later PS3 titles.

Maybe with the games that have been available on 360 for considerable time and are already marked down.

Pure conjecture: Game may have wished to sell Oblivion at a lower price closer to that of the 360 version and Bethesda/Sony weren't happy with this.

Knowing GAME, it has definately got something to do with profit. maybe the profit margins on the game were too low for them?

I HATE GAME, I just hate them.

If you want gaming without the agro, order your games online. You'll get them a bit cheaper as well.

I don't see why the profit would be that small, unless Sony is taking a really huge cut of the cost. Bethesda recouped their investment on the game a long time ago.

Are you people nuts? When I lived in the UK I LOVED game. You could "buy" any game and as long as you returned it within 14 days or so you got a complete refund no questions asked or exchange it for another game (although this option sucked cos once you did that you couldn't get your cash back). It was like renting unlimited games for free.

That would be the reason why every retailer that I know of in the US that sells games only exchanges for the same title. Gamestop used to let you exchange like that, but people abused it and they started losing money.
