Game that surprisingly impressed/dissapointed you

i would have to say that the games that surprisingly impressed me was Uncharted, i thought that game was going to blow like a humpback whale, but after i played it i fell in love with it.

As for Dissapointment it would have to be Haze, i thought that was going to get me back to playing FPS and well we all know how that turned out...

I'm suprisingly impressed by Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction. I rented it and I'm playing through it right now, and it's my first R&C game so it all feels quite fresh to me. I expected it to be a good platformer, but it's much better than I thought it would be.

I can find very few faults in it. Great, great game.

Resident Evil 4 impressed me. I never really looked at reviews back then and not even a fan of the series. Just browsing for some games with some Christmas money and decided to get Resident Evil 4.

Assassin's Creed disappointed me. It got all of this hype and praise and I just found it boring.

I disagreed with that review off the bat based on the fact that he took points off for "too many gameplay mechanics". That seemed ridiculous back then when I read it, and even moreso now that I've played the game. The variety is wonderful and keeps things from getting repetitive. It's one of the game's major triumphs.

Resident Evil 4 really impressed me, I wasn't a fan of the others, because I disliked the gameplay, while loving the scares. But Resident Evil 4 was a lot more fun for me.

I was really dissapointed by Gears of War, I expected it to be a lot better than it was.

Surprisingly disappointed by Bioshock by far. Game of the year candidate my ass.

Surprisingly impressed by World of Warcraft. Thought I would hate it, now I'm hopelessly addicted.

Because it was a horrible wretched mess of an RPG especially when compared to it's predecessors. The only thing really improved was the combat.

well i never played morrowind, but i did play daggerfall, and it was miles ahead of daggerfall, improved in every aspect

Bioshock was huge dissapointment for me. I just never really got into it for some reason.

I was impressed by RE4, i didnt think it would be as good as people were telling me it was. I eneded up beating the game like 28 times.

Surisingly impressed: Final Fantasy X, because I never touched the final fantasy series before. I logged over 100hours on that game.

Dissapointed: Dead Rising, I was immensly hyped for it.....otis annoyed the hell out of me and all the side missions I was bombarded with made me feel overwhelmed. Also, leading back AI to the hideout was ridiculously frustrating.

Surprised: MGS4

Dissapointed:Halo 3

Halo 3 just dident live up to the hype imo.Its alot of fun in multiplayer but could have been alot better if it had the old style aim feeling.

a game this year that surprised me was ninja gaiden; DS.

I didn't think they could pull off a ninja gaiden game with touch controls only...but they did.

GTA started off like a champion, where dates and social activities were fresh and a means to flesh out the characters. Then I realized that they replaced the fun with those activities, and I was highly dissapointed.

Bioshock was a horrible game with no depth, and with a beatiful soundtrack, great voice acting and terrific sound.

Sadly, that's the only thing it has going for it.

Suprisingly Impressed - BioShock

Suprisingly Dissapointed - Halo 3 (still a very good game, but not as great as I thought it would be)

impressed : NG2, lost odyssey and GTA4

disppointment : none so far

I can think of some recent ones; Metal Slug 3 on XBLA disappointed me because of the brutal achievements and poor controls, Ninja Gaiden 2 disappointed me because it clearly wasn't given enough effort, Mario Kart Wii impressed me because of the surprisingly good online play.dracula_16

I was surprisingly impressed by No More Heroes, I was on edge about buying the game and knew it was supposed to be good, but damn, that game is awesome, crazy fun.

I however was dissappointed in Condemned 2, don't get me wrong it is a great game, and fun as hell, I was just hyping it to be as good as, if not better than the first, it wasn't as scary and had too much gunplay, and the introduction of the *spoilers maybe* superpower Ethan has was kinda dumb. Although they improved on the combat a little, still a great game though, just not as good as the first if you ask me.

Disapointed: Bioshock. It was a great game but it felt the gameplay was super shallow compared to System Shock and although was beautiful I never really thought as highly of it as the reviewers did.

Orange Box. This is not flame bait but I hate Half Life. My friend convinced me that Half Life was Jesus in a box but it was bland and boring and I beat the first two just because I felt I had to give the game a fair try and couldn't even load the next chapter because I was bored to death by the story and I felt no need to continue.

Surprised: Uncharted. I heard it was good but the game is freaking amazing. Graphically it is beautiful but the story was what caught me off guard. Although it was a rip-off of Indiana Jones it was funny well written and it made me want to finish the story to see how it ended.

Stranglehold. I got it for 30 so I wasn't expecting the same I was from GTA or something like that but it was really fun. The game although a bit tedious was fun because it was bullet time done right. The game was badass and I don't regret buying it.
