Gamecube controller had the best analog trigger buttons.

How come the other systems didn't copy them. The Dreamcast, Xbox, and 360 triggers are good but don't feel as comfortable as the GC triggers. The PS3 triggers are just horrible, I don't know what Sony was thinking when they created those abominations, but those triggers just suck badly.

The GC triggers are molded in to fit the index fingers so your fingers will rest comfortably on the triggers, Plus the triggers also provide two additional buttons when pressed in, similarly to the L3/R3 buttons when an analog stick is pressed in.

I agree but I think the reason the GCN's triggers are similar to the L3/R3 buttons on the Analogue sticks are because Nintendo never made their Analogue sticks click so they worked around that.

The Gamecube controller is my favourite traditional controller and by far the most comfortable controller. Its like Nintendo perfectly designed them around my hands.

Same here. PS3's trigger's along with the analog sticks make me want to just chuck it somewhere. Very annoying...

The only problem I have with the GC controller is the tiny d-pad. Its a good d-pad, but its too small for anyone who is older than 8 years-old. Everything else is perfect. The face button placement is amazingly intuitive (since they are not all the same, you can always centre your thumb and find all the buttons instantly), especially in games like Metroid Prime. The ergonomic design looks weird but once you put it in your hands, you know why it looks weird. The Z button is weirdly placed and is a little difficult to access at some points, but again, its easy to find and remember where it is.

I wish the 360 gamepad took more notes from the GC gamepad... I've become really frustrated with the 360's design.

I agree with Everything also the only reason I only had a problem with the D-Pad was when I was playing Super Mario Bros. using the GBA player on the GCN. I played better with an Analogue Stick but I used the D-Pad when I was trying to be more precise.

I was able to pull off a 1:10 run in Super Metroid on the VC with a GC controller and d-pad, but it was difficult and I could have done much better. Its just too small. Much like the DS Lite as well.

If you are talking about the Z button, I LOVE the Z button. It was MADE to press.

I loved pressing that button, and I never noticed it functioned like an L3/R3 button until now.

I also loved the C-Stick.

I dont think the PS3 triggers are THAT bad, but they certainly are the crappiest compared to Dreamcast, 360, and GC

Not even close.

1) The face buttons have far too light a feel.
2) The face buttons lack pressure sensitivity.
3) The shoulder bumpers are hard to hit properly while using the triggers (Mirror's Edge is very difficult to play properly and comfortably).
4) The analogue sticks are too concave and cause uncomfortable pressure points on the edge after prolonged use.
5) The triggers lack a "click" like the GC gamepad, which tells you that you have "pressed" the button.
6) And the d-pad is so utterly atrocious, it brings down the quality of the rest of the gamepad.

Those are my complaints about it. Its decent, and more ergonomic than the Dualshock, but its issues bring down its overall quality and doesn't make it much better than the Dualshock.

Its definitely no Gamecube or Sega Saturn.

My problems with 360 controller: 1) The freaking D-Pad of course. I couldnt navigate the main screen at ALL with it, I was so frustrated. 2) Batteries! My friend has a ton of batteries and its just so annoying. 3) Buttons aren't pressure sensitive, but then again, there aren't many games that use pressure sensitivity. I actually like the clickity presses of the face and LT and RT buttons The 360 controller overall is nice. I would praise it's analog stick because it's simplistically genius. Depressed analog sticks are so resistance to the thumb.

Yeah, the GC controller is probably the best controller out there. Perfect in your hands, and the button layout was fantastically thought out. D-pad could have been a little bit bigger, but it worked perfectly fine with Metroid Prime, which is all that matters.

And I hope to Ben Hur that Sony changes the PS controller design. They DESPERATELY need to fix it! It's horrible!

Yes the GC had a near perfect. As far I'm concerned it had one of the best controllers for playing 3d fighters like Soul Caliburs II(too bad this is the only one I can think of). That Controller was just so well designed that I could talk about it for days.

The play-n-charge kit is a godsend. I don't understand why they aren't included with every controller. It allows you to not only recharge your controller without taking out the battery pack... but most importantly, it allows you to keep playing even when the battery is dead.

Yes, the 360 controller is MUCH better than the Dualshock. The L2/R2 triggers on the Dualshock are horrible, you can't get a grip on the analogue stick - it just slides off! (try playing Fight Night Round 4 with the Dualshock!), and the analogue stick placement is torture! It's so uncomfortable. I get a cramp in my hands all the time. It's just a horrible design, and I hope they fix it. Why did they have to trash the boomerang?!

Something that could be annoying on the GC controller was that it was hard to make full 360 degrees movements due to the octagonal shape (same goes for the Wii). Also, the GC controller buttons lacked pressure sensitivity, but who cares? It's not needed, same goes for the 360 controller.

The 360 is very comfortable, and is a great controller. Analogue sticks are great, and I don't get what you are talking about "uncomfortable pressure points". Sorry to say it, but that sounds like a load of bull to me. What are its "issues"? To me, it only has a horrible d-pad, and the whole "click" triggers was a nice thing on the GC, but it's not a necessity, and the 360 controller does have the shoulder buttons to "replace" them.

A controller that was awesome was the first Xbox controller. Now, THAT was an awesome controller. It just lay there in your hands... I'm probably one of the few who liked it. :)

wapahala

I have big thumbs, and don't push with the points, but the pads... and pushing with the pads on the edge of the analogue stick causes it to dig into my thumb. Playing Mirror's Edge and constantly pushing forward on the left analogue stick gets painful after a while. Which is why I prefer convex analogue sticks to concave ones.

The 360 gamepad is not as perfect as people try to make it out to be. Its better than most but far from the best.

I remember when i first gripped it. It felt perfect and comfortable. The only things i would knock it was that the Z button felt 'hidden' away and the d-pad could be slightly bigger. I agree, it had the best analogue shoulder buttons mostly because it had the click at the end. Luigi's Mansion and Super Mario Sunshine used those triggers to great effect.

No. I was just playing Twin Snakes for the first time last week at a friends place and we tried to make a quick reload(unequip->equip) it was impossible. DS 2 is still king.

The Gamecube had some awesome shoulder buttons, but I didn't like the rest of the controller. The d-pad was way too small, the Z button was in an awkward place, the rumble was weak, the cord was too short, and it hurt my hands.

I think that the PS3 and 360 controllers are the best traditional controllers ever made. The PS3 could use better triggers, and the 360 needs a better d-pad, but everything else is perfect.

I agree also why did Sony have to ruin the face buttons by having them shapes instead of A,B,X,Y? That confuses me everytime after I play a Playstation game then go to play a 360 game that I've never played at my friends house they are like hit the X button and I keep hitting the A button.
