Gamepass not pulling huge gameplay numbers for devs :(

Firstly congratulations to devs for such a milestones.

Very nicely done, I never played the game myself but I seen few users here saying enjoys the game (when server connection is ok)

But, according to Steamspy there is a maximum of 2 million owners on Steam and the PlayStation version is bestseller of the week for some reason. Does this mean gamepass 23 million players dont play games much? Hmmm. I think Gamepass and PSNow is a great subscription service and Gamepass does offer new games quicker but why users dont play games :(

Yes because all 23 million subscribers are all going to play the same game.

You can argue that extremely few PlayStation fans actually played PS4 exclusive games as God of War only sold around one tenth of the overall console sales actually bought the game.

@sakaixx: you are jumping to conclusions .. unless you provide the number of PlayStation users it being the #1 selling PS game this week means nothing ... You have to provide how many units were sold before you can even start making the conclusions you are

My prediction: Pedro first, then Archangel, then Gym Lion, and maybe we'll see Kingtito. I also expect Antwan to make a special appearance to damage control his assertions that it was a huge success.

Do you think that means they made more $ from Microsoft to put it on Gamepass than they would have from sales on Xbox?

Not sure why you’d come to the conclusion that Game Pass players don’t play games much. They’re probably just playing something else. Perhaps it’ll be something they get around to playing later on or perhaps not. If some people aren’t interested in the game then they’re simply not interested in the game. 🤷‍♂️

FWIW Sales data was April 1 to May 1 so it does not include sales this week

I haven't played it, and don't plan to until I hear issues with people's progress being wiped out randomly get fixed.

Not sure what Square Enix was thinking with Marvels Blandvengers and this game.

Not saying I agree with OP but I think the association is that those other players not on GP have to buy the game vs not paying for the game at full price with GP. So there should be more people playing the game they get as part of the sub.

This is only one game and I don't think it's enough to be so sure that GP doesn't attract gamers to games.

@R4gn4r0k: I saw a good video explain the issue isn't the game lacked content, but the player base is frustrated that they put countless hours grinding away and their progress is just randomly glitches away and they have to begun again from scratch, and that that's enough for people to give up all together.

They likened the online player falloff to games like Anthem and Avengers but said the game is actually good, but this one thing will kill the game all the same.

GP is not really that good and is clearly having trouble moving Xbox consoles. Sure, they're playing the long game but they still have nothing really worth it that most games already don't have in other systems. MS is fighting a losing battle tbh. I think they can succeed in the PC space but on the console space they're bleeding money.

In order for your theory to be right, you’d have to link how many copies of Outriders sold on PS in month one. SInce you can’t, your theory remains just that….a theory.

@sakaixx: Outriders on PC is still kinda broken. Tons of disconnects, the "disconnect wipes your inventory" bug is still there, and people can stare at the connect screen for minutes on end.

Most Outriders players are PS & Xbox users.

Also, outriders is not nearly as popular as other games on XBox right now.

Why expect a generic looking, mediocre MP game to pull in a large crowd? Because Gamepass?

A lot of assumptions with no data that will just get repeated over and over as fact.

Outsiders on Steam has lost 93% of players according to Steamcharts so that alone makes your assumptions worthless

I tried to tell people Outriders would be forgotten within weeks. 3.5 million “unique players” when the game is part of a subscription service and on 6 platforms is nuts. I don’t know what the dev got for being a part of Game Pass, but Xbox likely overpaid.

Shit's at ~8000 concurrent players on Steam. I'm not too sure this is a solid rebuke for GP...

I enjoyed Outriders and am glad they're going to release more content soon. Hopefully some cool story DLC and not just some vacuous online mode.

It was funny to see lemmings brag about this janky disaster of a game being on GP. The only reason this game had any buzz surrounding it at all was because of the dry spell at the start of the year. As soon as the real bangers like Returnal, Village and Mass Effect started dropping everyone forgot Outriders existed.

I had to look it up because I forgot. As far as GPU, I was playing lots of Forza, then moved to Doghnut County, Cyber Shadow, and now I'm cracking out on Dead Cells. Game Pass gets plenty of play in my house

I'm actually a bit surprised that it's only 3.5m players considering how awful the servers were for the first couple weeks.

It was supposedly because of all of GamePass users but, I guess not? It does seem low considering it was a day one release.

There were all kinds of people on social media bagging on the “poor Game Pass gamers” ruining the servers for the paying customers. Twitter is pretty wild sometimes

I hope the first week isn't as important as you state because I know of a game that was third in just one day and I am concerned that it is not going to be number one for the month. 😈

Outriders is an abomination of a game. Almost on par with Godfall, like really close to it. I knew it would be pure mediocrity prior to launch.

For almost every game, seems very likely unfortunately.

I enjoyed the hell out of Returnal and then I went onto Resident Evil 8 and now Judgement on PS5 and then Ratchet and Clank..if you're a PlayStation gamer, you're living the life right now.

It's most likely because the number of Game Pass subscribers that played the game is meaningless. The devs already got a fat check from Microsoft. The end.
