I'm going with quick-time events (QTE). They are becoming archaic. They were fun in games like RE4 and the first GOW because no one had used them as well. Now, they sort of take away the experience due to the scripted animations and the fact that you are just pressing a button to pull off ridiculous moves on some behemoth of a beast.

What people are missing is that QTE allows the user to do something that the normal mechanics wouldnt allow you to do. So in other words, those same QTE that some of you guys claim to "hate", wouldve instead been a cutscene instead.

Waist high barriers all over the place. Learn from Uncharted 2 devs, the levels in that game still felt natural compared to Mass Effect 2.

It's funny playing ME2 because when you turn the corner and there are a bunch of chest high walls, you know a flood of enemies are coming.

QTEs are not bad par se. In GoW they work in a lot of other games - no.

Metro 2033 PC, borrowing from the 360 version, I guess, has key tapping which is kind of ridiculous.

pointless cutscenes. for example, having a stylised cutscene just to open a door (DMC4 had something similar to this in one cut scene)

this, i hate it when i can't jump, or when jumping doesn't help me (like in Killzone 2)

also i hate infinitely respawning enemies

QTE's can be fun in games like Heavy Rain, but i found on my second playthrough (attempt) of that game that they totally lose any sense of fun on your second go

which i guess is why they decided that when you die in that game... you die, because if you didn't die, and you had to do the same QTE sequences again for 30 minutes leading up to the moment you screwed up last time, everybody would hate heavy rain with a passion

I hate QTEs. I can never actually see what's going on on the screen because of some damned button popping up over the action. What's worse is the QTEs where you have to push a certain button to not die. I hate that.

QTE irritate me but I'm sure developers love them.

Games look their best during cut scenes because the developers have complete control and there is little processing work, however a game full of them is more akin to a film than a game. The solution? Make cut scenes interactive using pre determined actions.

It's just one of many solutions that keep the graphics w***** happy, as close to cut scene quality real time graphics you can get; while maintaining some game play.

Cut scenes that you can't skip... that's like not allowing me to press fast forward when watching a movie... if I find the scene boring I should be allowed to skip it.

People who say the same line over and over and over. It's so ******* annoying! This seems to happen most in sandbox games. Like in Rivet City in Fallout 3 I must've heard "One of the new immigrants died last week, I heard she was drinking river water," twenty times in ten minutes.

Escort missions with awful AI or a weak character. It can be fine if the character can defend themself or if they have health regen or something. Things have improved at least, we all remember Goldeneye and a certain woman who seems to forget she has a magnum, but there are still some games that have crappy escort missions that make the game a chore.

CPU auto aim attacks...You know the ones where you clearly dodge there attack yet they pivot 90 to 180 degrees and connect with there horizontal or VERTICAL attack. GOW 3 is full of this...it's 2010, enough with pirouette attacks.

Randomly placed medpacks that absolutely make no sense at all. Followed by instant 100% health when picking up these medpacks.

Repeatly button pressing.

Dissappearing items. Where the hell do some items appear from? In Mass Effect the weapons are on your back and you can actually see them being switched, other games switch from pistol to bazooka in 2 sec with no sign from where it came from.

Explosion sounds in space, seriously.

Models that keep running even when you reached a wall. That simply makes it look stupid, really.

Not able to jump.

Of course that's not just in games. Along with always seeing stars in space, people have just sorta come to expect this.

Regenerating Health is a big one for me. Go back to regular HP and have First Aid packs or something, where repleneshing a characters health adds another challenge element to a game. Regenerating health has made first person shooters a joke.
