Which one is most important to you? Pick which one is the most important to make or break a game

hmm, tbh it realy depends on the genre, its mainly a tos s up between gameplay and story though for platformers FPS's and open world games I definetyl prefer gameplay, but in genres like RPG's and adventure games I definetly prefer story.
You could have the most graphically astounding game with the deepest most riveting storyline writers could conjure. But it'd all be for bad to mediocre reception without good gameplay.nervmeister
but if you have good gameplay and a beautiful game, with out a good story what is the point of playing it? whats driving you to finish it? What makes you want ot play new levels and not just replay the same one? since all you care about is the gameplay
I was gonna put mixtures of two, but Then I realized I would just prefer to see what is the most important fact, what is the one thing you won't play a game without?
Gameplay, but all 3 are just as important as the next.
But a bad story is something i can live with, I cant however, live with bad graphics and bad gameplay.

do you own a DS?
gameplay is the reason that super smash bros 64 and super monkey ball for gc is more fun (playing with people) than many next gen games today.

but you can't play them by yourself, or when friends just arn't around

I do in fact, hand-held gaming is the only case I will acceptwhen it comes to graphics. esp Nintendo systems, when I bought the DS i already knew what I was in for. But if you make a ugly game on say..a PC/Console's, the game play better make up for it...[QUOTE="mD-"]

actually, I can play them by myself very easily. Visuals and story are important (ex: FF13), but gameplay is most important[QUOTE="All_that_is_Man"]

a\fter much deliberating I have decided that gameplay is the most important, I mean that is why they are called games, if I went to a game for the sole reason as to watch a story Id just go and watch a movie. That isnt saying that the other 2 aspects arent important, but there main purpos\e in games to me is to kep the gameplay going.
If the graphics are decent and gameplay and story are all good i would def buy the game (eg. Fallout 3) but if the graphics are really outdated like worse than some last gen games, i would sell ASAP (eg. Prototype which is an 8 at best IMO)

Ummm The gameplay....if the gameplay is great, you'd wanna keep playing it. Also what if it has an amazingly immersive and designed gameworld? That'd keep me motivated to see the level design in further levels.I was gonna put mixtures of two, but Then I realized I would just prefer to see what is the most important fact, what is the one thing you won't play a game without?All_that_is_Man

Really amazing how people overrate the story... and not just in games. As if book, movies, plays, games, etc were made of story only, and didn't feature a support (images, sound and language for the most part) to toy with and keep the reader/gamer/spectator immersed.

I would have to go with story. Great graphics are good but they wont keep you playing over and over again. Great gameplay is also good, but after a while that gameplay could get repetitive. A great story with character driven sequences, emotion and a drive to get to the end keeps you on the edge of your seat and forces you to continue playing so you can see how it unfolds. And if the story is truly amazing, you may just want to play it again so you can relive the experiance.

Umm since when does immersiveness lie solely in how good the graphics are? First time i played STALKER, i was playing on low settings cause my comp sucked. I still found it to be one of the most immersive experiences ever.well i look for visuals in games, i like to see creative games and nice relaxing gameplay with deep interaction

Umm since when does immersiveness lie solely in how good the graphics are?because Immersiveness is how the gameworld was set up, where they put objects, what art style they used to make the game, how you just feel like your in the game are all in my opinion Graphics
By Graphics thats what I ment, The gameworld how pretty it looks, how its set up, how well it goes together
The overall experience is the most important thing in any game, and that is composed of all three of those things. Plus, different types of games tend to balance them differently. Platformers need to have tight gameplay mechanics, but great visuals are not necessary, and story is usually minimal. In a Point&Click Adventure game, though, a great story and great visual style are absolutely necessary, while gameplay is a lot less engaging than in other genres.
for me its gameplay. i have to have great gameplay for it to be a great game. my order is gameplay, then story then graphics.
I'm willing to put up with less than stellar gameplay for a good story but great gameplay can't save a game if I expect it to have a good story. So story.
I mostly play JRPGs and Survival Horror games, to put this in perspective.

If you don't care about gameplay, why play a game?NBSRDan
What do I play FF? They don't really have great gameplay, I could really care less about game play as long as its decent, Story is pretty much required, its what makes me want to get further in a game
Who said anything about gaming with just one? ::Yawn:: boring answer. But maybe you didn't understand. Which one? Not three. Not two. Three answers can't be "more" important :?I prefer a game with all three rather than just one. But I'm greedy like that.

I say you guys are both wrong.
1. Bioshock has an outstanding story (I didn't play System Shock 2), great graphics and art direction, but the gameplay is really mediocre. From start to finish all you do is kill the same guys over and over again. Gunplay is clunky and boring. Also, the level design is not that great. Yet the game was a huge success and received great reviews.
2. A good story may or may not be needed, depends on the genre. Take Left 4 Dead and the Battlefield franchise, no need for a story. If you really want a good story, read a book or watch a movie.
I say all 3 factors are important, but I'd put graphics+gameplay above story.
