I've stopped following CALL OF DUTY series after ADVANCED WARFARE 2. I wouldn't know.

Gamers bash CALL OF DUTY yet COD sells very well every year, whats the mystery? Does it mean gamers secretly love COD ( Bashing seems cool online ) and in reality they can't do without its addicting mp?

Well?

People bash it in person. For instance the latest moaning about cod is the new one looks crap but you need to buy it for Cod4.

No. Not everyone that likes COD posts on the internet and vice versa. Call of Duty sells because people like Call of Duty.

Cancer sticks *cigarettes* are also selling a f*ckton around the world. Doesn't mean its good and worth buying. I crap on CoD, never purchased a single CoD and that's not changing in the future. The secret to sell well is to milk the "special gamers". The ones that will forget being butt******** as soon as a new trailer for the next cod is released. You remove the clueless dudebro that follows nothing else but NFL and games with the biggest marketing budget and CoD is in deep poopoo. CoD is a joke at this point and only a person that isn't following gaming wouldn't able to see it

There are a lot of very strange people out there who play nothing but CoD. These odd individuals actually get excited at the idea of a new map pack, let alone the new annual instalment.

there's no mystery , for 3 simple reasons :

1-FPS is a very popular genre

2-Good Marketing

3-COD’s target audience are mostly teenage casual gamers and their number is big enough to keep sales high , plus those people who hate COD are in minority

I think the hate this year is because they are locking MW remastered behind an $80 paywall. If they sold it separately for $20 (or even $30) people would just ignore Infinite Warfare altogether.

The angry antisocial "gamers" who hate every video game that comes out or even entire generations who consider themselves hardcore and post on forums do not in anyway represent the typical gamer. If you realize that, things make a lot more sense.

It's plug and play at the highest level possible. Let's face it, it's still a vocal minority. People that don't care don't even hit the like/dislike button.

People like having fun. Lots of people have fun playing CoD. Internet gamers hate popular things. Gaming message boards in particular are echo chambers of negativity.

No mystery.

A franchise at the top like that is guaranteed to have vocal haters, they only represent the minority. People don't understand it's not just about games these days, it's also about being part of a "club", a community.

COD gets a refresh every year, members of the COD community will buy it, simple as that. They pay the yearly membership fee, they are part of the club they enjoy being part of, they have fun. Don't see the issue. Some people spend their day playing Candy Crush. Others like to partake in what I consider to be the boring activity of Golf. It's got nothing to do with me, I don't spend time wondering why others enjoy certain things and I don't. I focus on myself.

I don't particularly like the multiplayer in COD, but the Zombie modes are solid. Challenging, fun coop action .....I buy COD games sometimes for that and the campaign alone. I'll tell you something that almost every time I fire up a game of COD, I encounter some cool people online....last time I played Zombie mode it was 3 people with mics who knew what they were doing and we destroyed....fun experience.

People who discuss games on internet and talk about them aren't the only people who play games. Most gamers are casuals. They don't care about reviews, game discussions, innovation or anything else.

They only care about picking the next big thing that gets flashy ad on TV, so they can have some mindless fun with friends for few hours per week. COD is targeted for that kinda people.

Well?

The forums anywhere have always been a focal point of negativity. Theres a logic to it and basically, those who like a particular game are too busy playing the game (thus no reason to waste time on the boards or the hassle of registering) while those who don't ends up in the boards because other than a useless feedback function, thats the only place they can vent their disappointment.

The facts are gamers on message boards are a loud minority that thinks the gaming world revolves around their tastes but it really doesnt. Its like how the majority here hate MP games and sports games then rave about single player rpgs and jrpgs when most people dont like them.

The bulk of the regular everyday people I know that console game play Madden, NBA2K, FIFA, CoD/BF maybe GTA and a fighter and thats pretty much it.

Most gamers dont even post on forums, they spend their time playing games. I've been on this site since 2003 and really just started posting in recent years because the actual journalism on this site has slowly slid downhill. I used to just mostly talk in the comments sections of the articles, but the articles are mostly clickbait nowadays and not even worth reading.

Because loudmouthed, highly opinionated gamers who love hating on anything mainstream on various gaming websites and communities are actually the minority.

CoD is a consistently decent franchise with a large userbase that enjoys its core gameplay. There are also a large enough base that people can skip a year and sales won't be affected that much. Just like sports games. People don't always grab the latest one, but rather they alternate years. The fanbase for the games is so large that even if 1/3rd skips out on the game, the sales are still massive.

CoD is starting to go through a stagnation period while the alternatives are starting to become more appealing. The media buzz over Battlefield 1 is considerable while Titanfall 2 is pretty anticipated. I can believe that Infinite Warfare suffers from CoD Ghosts level of sales this year, which were some of the worst sales in recent history for the series.

We here in SW do not reflect the consumer market at large. Go strike up conversations with people at a Walmart, Best Buy gaming aisle. Many have no clue what an exclusive is. I was visiting a friend at the Gamestop he works at this morning. Some 20 something saw a Scalebund ad on whatever that in store, BS tv show they run on a loop is. He said out loud to his pal, "cant wait for that. I'm pre ordering it". Comes to the counter to do so and is let down it isn't on PS4. Now some numb nut in here may say "well he's stupid", but no. We aren't smarter than everyone else. We're just more passionate about this hobby than most. My car mechanic isn't smarter than me. He just had a passion for working on cars I would wager and is making a living off of it.

But I digress. To wrap up, passionate gaming nerds may claim COD sucks but it serves the fans it has. And there is nothing wrong with that. It isn't detracting from my enjoyment of Deus Ex at all.

Justin Bieber is a popular singer, yet he still sucks. Fack that dude. Ive been saying he sucks for 5+ years, yet he gets bigger and richer. Much love for his fans though, love yall.

You have to love yourself. All things are for love. Love isnt, do this for me and ill do this for you. Love is, im gonna do this for you because i want to do this for you.

Love CoD because you love it, not because CoD loves you. And if CoD doesnt hate you, i see no reason to hate CoD.

COD is good. Just repetitive. I know casual fans who buy COD every year, play it maybe once a week for an hour or whatever. Nothing wrong with that.

Core gamers who expect every game to be a unique gem and despise rehashes hate COD, and fair enough. But they aren't the entire market, not even a majority of it.

Yep, it's like Madden at this point. Basically the same thing every year.

Some people, that's almost all the play. So it's either Madden, COD, or nothing. For gamers that play a wide variety of games, but maybe aren't as loyal to one franchise, they just see a repetitive franchise.

I was "done"after Black Ops. But I still somehow managed to buy Black Ops II and Ghosts at launch. Haven't played MW3, Advanced Warfare, or Black Ops III, . I actually haven't yet played one in the current gen, I'll probably go back and give Black Ops 3 a try at some point though. But this is pretty much a franchise that is off my radar as far as pre-ordering. It's fallen to "bargain bin" status to me. As repetitive as I'm sure is, it's still worthy of $20, it's just no longer worthy of $59.99 and certainly not $120 or whatever they want with all the DLC maps.
